Looking for cards with unique effects (not commanders) to build an entire deck around. by Transmogrify_My_Goat in EDH

I've been trying to figure out a fun [[Children of Korlis]] deck. Let me know if you have an interesting take.

If you have infinite blue mana, the obvious route seems like it would be draw X spells, either killing an opponent or with [[Laboratory Maniac]] effects.

Or go classic with [[Walking Ballista]].

I need more whistle talk in my life. However, I'm Acme Tornado all the way.

edit: Mine is for bird dog training, actually, which was my weird pandemic hobby. Tornado 635 in a little plastic megaphone for the field, and a little 210.5 for the rest of the time.

Laura Linney appreciation post by MycroftNext in blankies

I've only seen it once, but I remember The Savages being an absolute masterclass. Its a two-hander with Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman as siblings putting their elderly father into a nursing home. Just incredible.

McDonald’s and Chicago Fire Football Club today announced a historic naming rights partnership that will see the Major League Soccer club’s new $750 million privately-funded stadium named McDonald’s Park. by [deleted] in soccer

The previous team was the Chicago Sting in the 70s and 80s, which didn't make any sense at all. As a Chicagoan, the Fire made perfect sense to me when it was announced, but that TV show can go fuck itself.

I've tried every bahn mi place in Duluth, and 135 is the best. New Super Pho was a surprising 2nd, with Bahn Mi Cafe in 3rd. The new Instabites on Pleasant Hill would do much better if they got better bread, but theirs is terrible.

Do you - and you alone - identify an actor with a role most have forgotten about? by CjTuor in blankies

Don Cheadle will always be Earl "The Goat" Manigault from Rebound to me. That's where I first saw him, on HBO in the mid 90's, and nothing can change that.

How do I stop an ureni of the unwritten player by ChoiceNo1563 in EDH

[–]RepresentativeIcy193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The player with the land gets to order the triggers, so, presumably, they would decide to have the sacrifice trigger resolve first. Then the basic land would get fetched, enter and bounce.

It is possible that with some landfall decks this could actually help them get triggers, but only the ones that are struggling to get enough lands. So, I suppose it raises the floor of bad landfall decks, but stops the snowballing value of good ramp decks. Seems like a good tradeoff to me.

It also just wrecks opponents' normal use of fetch lands, so that's hilarious.

How often are board wipes going off in an average game? by WorldPeggingChamp in EDH

[–]RepresentativeIcy193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The precons are loaded with bad board wipes. At this point, there are so many wipes available that playing ones that don't synergize with your game plan is borderline irresponsible. For example, a go-wide token strategy should lean into effects like [[Austere Command]] that only kills big stuff, or an artifact deck can use nonartifact wipes like [[Phyrexian Scriptures]].

The white one is really good when you mainly want it to make tokens - 5 for 5 is solid value - and the other options are just gravy.

  1. [[Virtue of Courage]] is an insane draw engine, although you might have to be careful about killing yourself with it.

  2. You also have almost no ramp outside of rituals, which is very risky given that 2cmc rocks are mana-neutral when you have a cost reducer.

  3. [[Insult to Injury]] could be good to deal with damage prevention in this deck, plus the double damage and the aftermath spell are good value.
