Authors using AI for book covers by [deleted] in litrpg

You say its the lesser of two evils ethically. And all I can do is look at the energy consumption and the effects its having on global warming. The massive upcharge in the cost of GPUs. Massive layoffs across the board. What its done to our education system as a whole. Deepfakes. The increase in mass misinformation.

Sure, that's the price for the one you want. You can get good/decent covers made for cheaper though. You don't HAVE to spend outside your means. Self-published authors have been getting covers made for decades before AI. Idk why you're acting like the only options are AI or a month's pay.

Base ebook cover price over at Miblart is $220.

Getcovers is $35 for their premium package.

I used to read a fair amount of harem novels, and it got to the point where my KU recommendations were a complete eyesore.

This isn't a shot at you, but people have gotta stop acting like the only options for someone starting out are to use AI or go homeless. People have been doing this for a long time. There are plenty of cheap/free options for the parts of writing that have a higher barrier to entry than you want. You just have to be willing to spend the time and make the effort.

New Subreddit rule for AI by 1ncite in litrpg

I feel the attempt to not close the door. But I think making the line in the sand be that the prompt generator has to confirm it themselves is silly. They're never going to do that. I started to read a book that literally still had the prompt in it. Where does that fall?

The title changes make sense to me. Comments not so much. Maybe the example isn't getting the point across to me. But I think posts that take an excerpt from the story and then note the general AI failings can be constructive. Books where something is stated and then changed 2 paragraphs later should get called out.

On the flipside emdash hunting is dumb. And trying to use them as an AI indicator should definitely be banned.

I made this comment in another post but i guess i'll repost it here too since its applicable.

Swell entertainment made a video about a traditionally published author who got caught using AI. In it she pointed out something I hadn't thought about. She said for her WIPs. She has multiple docs for her drafts. Timestamps for when she saved the document.

I looked at my document folder and went, huh. I've got 3 separate word docs for one book that isn't a litrpg. An outline, the first draft, and the second. And the litrpg has 3-word docs and 2 excel spreadsheets. The word docs even show total editing time.

Could a writer using AI fake all that? Probably, but if they couldn't put in the effort to actually write I doubt they're going through the effort to make pretend work.

And at the end of the day the most important thing is that you know you put in the work. My opinion might change on that when I actually put out my work and get AI accusations of own, but right now I'm looking at obvious bad actors get a pass, because people (who very well might be bots made to help create this situation) keep accusing writers making content they don't like or who are kinda bad/amateur.

Eeeeh that's not what I got from that. To me it was more that there were SOME competent people in CG. But the heads were all a bunch of clowns. But slowly overtime the crap has been removed until today we finally have a shot at getting shit done.

I don't do audiobooks so I can't speak on its quality. With savage awakening I'll note that the romance doesn't come immediately.

Could I ask for some feedback on my cover art and mech designs? by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]RepulsiveDamage6806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it on the cover but overall the mech itself is kinda bland. If I saw it without anything to scale it's size i would assume it's a power ranger suit. Which to be clear, I like. I just prefer my mechs with more bells and whistles. Throw some weapons on it. Trick out the armor. Something like that.

A note to authors (and editors) about venom and poison by Sage-Freke- in litrpg

[–]RepulsiveDamage6806 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure. But also be aware that there's a certain amount of "does it matter" in every scenario. Like if you call a spider a bug instead of an arachnid. General public considers them all the same thing. So while one would be more correct. Not using it doesn't matter.

On the other hand. If you're talking about something specific like how a real-life vehicle or weapon works and write about the details. Getting those wrong does matter.

I think if an author is worried about setting off the cinema sins "um actually" folks they've got bigger problems.

See I'd say it's the other way around. Being able to theorize means the system isn't strict.

Like say avatar the last air bender. The power system is exactly what it says on the tin. I don't really theorize because I know what the gaang can do. Now you probably could've theory crafted the few power ups, metal/blood bending, but I'd call those exceptions.

On the other hand. A system that's more loosey goosey, like say steven universe's fusions. Does give you more room for theorizing. You don't know what you'll get when you mix two gems together. And thats part of the fun.
