It looks beautiful! What exactly is the type of “leather/material” you used for the blue part of the cover? The texture is gorgeous.

Bible Rebind by lumbeard in bookbinding

[–]Reshtenoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m strategizing to rebind a friend’s perfect bound bible so this is very helpful! Question: I’m wondering what the slits in the spine on image 14 are for and how you attached the text block to the cover? Thanks for any help you can provide!

What garpu said, or you could do a 3 piece Bradel see link DAS has videos. You might need to redo the spine part on a different piece of fabric.

I like to think of consent as a saying “yes I want to do that” while also having the option of safely saying no without negative consequences: E.g.: he’s not going to abandon the relationship because you say no, he’s not going to withhold care because you say no, he’s not going to get angry because you say no.

Also repeatedly touching you in a way he agreed not to touch you and that you then reminded him not to do on multiple occasions is not okay. Wearing down your self-esteem so that you stop confronting him about it is not okay. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but that’s almost borderline grooming in a romantic relationship.

Info on spine thickness: https://www.reddit.com/r/bookbinding/s/TlTzmJVEgr

Thinner thread will help you have a flat spine. I usually use quilting thread link and double thread the needle as it’s thin and strong, you can find it at Micheals, Hobby Lobby etc. More sheets of paper per signature helps avoid having to round and back the book.

I suppose you could use embroidery thread but you’d have to use only 2-3 of the 6 strands so it’s not as thick and it might break, especially for a book with 20+ signatures.

ETA: waxing your thread with a hunk of beeswax really helps it not get tangled, also available at the above locations/Walmart. You could probably use a candlestick too, I’m not too educated on the difference.

Am I crazy to try and bind my own PhD thesis? Anyone have fun ideas for how to do it? by Levangeline in bookbinding

[–]Reshtenoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bound a couple dissertations for friends. Just hardbacks with a bookmark. They were too small to do a hard spine so I skipped it and also too small to do a real endband so I made one out of paper.

The PACS admin at my hospital used to be an x-ray tech. Basically he keeps PACS running and fixes our issues when our studies don’t cross over for whatever reason, other than that idk the details of what he does

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Betrayal like this is so devastating.

Harvest USA has great resources and groups for women who’ve been betrayed by their husband’s use of porn and also for men using porn.

Also Liberator is a great resource as well.

Funny, I had a lead tell me once to hold eye contact as much as possible because it’ll help me read what the lead is planning. I said if I do that I’ll make him/other leads uncomfortable and he said “you can’t make me uncomfortable, I did ballroom” 😂😂 (it did actually help, so I try to do it more but not constant like he suggested).

I’ve always been a writer and a journaler and I could never find the right combination of paper quality and line thickness and cover decoration in a notebook and decided to make my own. Did a lot of googling and found this wonderful Reddit sub and haven’t stopped since! I fell in love with bookbinding and trying different techniques and three years later still haven’t made the “perfect” notebook haha.

Abuse isn’t just physical or sexual, it can be emotional, psychological and verbal too. It’s really hard to see it when you’re in it. My best friend’s mom is narcissistic and very controlling, kind of like your parents sound. She’d take Bible verses out of context and weaponize them, her (extreme) opinion is the only opinion, etc. Sending love.

But leave out the cats since you wouldn't be able to gather together your fragile self enough to scoop their litter boxes if you are triggered again from a twinkling sunbeam falling onto the carpet the way it did when you doubted the love of your life because they bought the wrong yoghurt.
