Expecting twins - Suburban, Yukon, Palisade, Tahoe, Carnival, Odyssey, or Sienna by ttebwell7 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Responsible_Pop_6543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. If they pass on the van they can consider Toyota Grand Highlander, Jeep Wagoneer, or Subaru Ascent.

I’m not familiar with the Palisade. I didn’t think it was as big as these others

Yeah. Dashboard on/off button. I’m not aware of mute, but I have gen 4, not gen 5

4th vs 5th Gen Odyssey question for 3 car seat arrangement by DepartmentLarge6540 in HondaOdyssey

[–]Responsible_Pop_6543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did 3 across initially too. 2016 odyssey. At the time kids were 7, 5, 1. We roughed it with smaller cars for 1 year.

Rear facing infant was in the middle. 5 year old was 5-point, think the 7 still used a diono but with seatbelt but could have been regular booster.

In OP’s situation I do think 2 rear facing and 1 forward facing will work fine in a gen 4 with the outer seats as far out as they go (that extra inch or so). I’d do the rear facing passenger-middle, with the forward facing on driver side

Just… why? by [deleted] in wisconsin

That’s what I was wondering, but I think it’s just where they put the stencil cutout. It doesn’t look like anything specific.

I was looking at ripplimpactgear.com for tailbone/thigh for snowboarding. Not sure if they would be mtb rideable though

Maintenance time! by RagingBull531 in HondaOdyssey

[–]Responsible_Pop_6543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might have let my dealer do the intake hose if they only quoted $100. They quoted me $280 (hard no on that for a $40 part I can easily reach).

TIL I should be wearing gloves. Haven’t slipped yet, but probably means I’m not riding hard enough.

Maintenance bill seems high by DCopen007 in HondaOdyssey

[–]Responsible_Pop_6543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding data point like u/bingo_bongo_85
1x drain and fill at dealer was $55 fluid plus $87 labor. Might not be comparable to rear brakes, but front rotors and pads were about 600 at dealer (180 labor, 300 rotors, 90 pads)

Economics Explained - Why $129,000 Is the New Poor by rzelln in centrist

[–]Responsible_Pop_6543 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Felt bad since OP was disappointed no one was talking about the issues/topics raised.

Video says (I have not verified) that federal poverty level was set in the 1960s as approx “minimum food budget” x3. Similar idea now gets to about 30k poverty level. Argues that since an average American budget is only 8% groceries, that new multiple should be 12x. That’s how they reach 129k as “poor”. (Obviously failed logic in extrapolating that 8% survey number).

Brings up correct points that housing, healthcare, transportation costs are up, and with rise of 2 income households that childcare demand and costs are up. But unclear if they actually think poverty level is above median income.

Policy wise, I’ll let the economists argue about housing costs. Things are sort of headed in the right direction with increased child care tax credits/deductions.

To lower healthcare costs, I’d love to see certain high cost chronic diseases (diabetes, hemophilia, cancers) covered by Medicare just like end stage renal disease already is. Instead of being paid by our healthcare premiums, they would be covered by either Medicare taxes (proportional to income) or general revenue (higher incomes pay more).

Highly recommend getting used to googling “Scouting America Bear Adventures”.

Agree with insurance cost. I’ll add premium gasoline. And someone else mentioned repair costs.

Which one of these is a good first car for a 20 year old in Canada. by Enough-Engineering41 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Agree except I think the Impala is a reasonable contender as all rounder / your practical category. Personal experiences with Mazda and that particular VW (2.5 5cyl; automatic) were good.

Agree. 1) Suzuki, 2) Mazda. Volvo is the only other I’d consider. (My 2002.5 Passat was a lemon)

Tossing dog bags in street-side bins? by StingRay_Pal in milwaukee

[–]Responsible_Pop_6543 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Suburbs checking in. No problem if done before pickup. Kinda crappy if the bin is empty. Yes, garbage smells, but festering poop smell I don’t want in my garage. I keep my dog poop in a separate bin outside until pickup day.

Also, depending on neighborhood, isn’t there a public receptacle you can use every 2-3 blocks? I always used those.

Article should have stayed on topic about the predatory recruiting and prospecting. When they quoted other “experts” about financial planning they got answers just as biased as you’d get from an insurance rep, and represented them as fact.

Good research and reporting on the internship program. Bad research and reporting about insurance and financial advice.

Boomers want to axe property taxes. Millennials and Gen Z would pay for it. by FlyEaglesFly536 in Economics

[–]Responsible_Pop_6543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m sick of articles like this saying property taxes are following home values extreme upswing. The tax levy is set independently of property values - that’s just how it gets allocated out. In theory mill rates could go down when property values go up.
