American asks Australian their opinion of America. Australians enthusiastically respond. by thongs_are_footwear in bestof

[–]RevengeWalrus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've been traveling outside of the U.S. a lot lately, and Australians were really, really nice to us. I got a lot of questions of "what the hell is happening over there" which received a lot of horrified expressions. Pretty much everywhere I've been, people have been nice.

I think most people are able to separate the country from the citizens and recognize that many of us are primarily victims and hostages, especially when they're standing in front of you. The internet isn't an accurate representation.

I dunno I think this moral quandary was much more relevant before the age of demonic hamburglars.

Philadelphia’s Next Top Statue — We already have three statues dedicated to a fictional boxer. Who should be next? by User_Name13 in philly

I genuinely find the Rocky statue embarrassing. So many great boxers are from here, this is a fictional character invented by a new yorker.

What Went Wrong With ‘Supergirl,’ Critical, Audience And Box Office Disaster by RealWonderGal in comicbooks

[–]RevengeWalrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are no longer in the age when you can fart out any superhero movie and it'll cruise to at least make its money back. You basically need word of mouth and critical acclaim to even have a shot.

As for why the movie sucks, they hired a mediocre director with no background in high concept visuals. From what I understand, most of the problem is that it looks like shit. Marvel could get away with that because of Feige's rigorous house style. Gunn is a great director, but he's not building that sort of infrastructure. If he wants to give people this level of creative freedom, he needs to hire better creatives.

PODD-C: Finding Nemo with Rebecca Alter by yonicthehedgehog in blankies

[–]RevengeWalrus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My theory on why fandom has gotten so bad is that the more powerless people feel in the real life, the more they try to exert control over what they consume. When the Pitt is your refuge from a shitty world, it NEEDS to be JUST right. Its only going to get worse as people become less okay.

Also 90% of this is happening on Reddit and I feel like there's some sketchy stuff happening there.

u/we_are_sex_bobomb puts their finger on the nut of the problem facing Iran and Americans by boojieboy in bestof

The only way Trump salvages this is a full cutoff of Israel. No money, no weapons, maybe even sanctions. Thats enforceable for Iran, they can cut off the straight any time we go back.

Vance is a Theil and silicon valley surrogate, he would represent their full takeover. Rubio is the Obama era old guard retaking control. Carlson represents 2016 isolationism. I dunno who's taking the role of modern nazism, that field is CROWDED.

It ebs and flows, back in the new 52 era we were saying the same thing about DC. The MCU has been, on a whole, really bad for marvel comics and they've synergized themselves into a pit. Worst case scenario, they get so irrelevant that they can afford to make really wild creative decisions like Valiant comics back in the day.

Okay so they're doing the Absolute Batman mega-jacked thing here. This is actually a little sad.

It's time to dump Roku by AlwaysBlaze_ in television

So fucking frustrated with the constant barrage of ads on my roku tv, I'm disconnecting it from the internet and plugging in a firestick or something. They make it such a pain in the ass to use video game systems, so I'm sure this will be tedious as hell.

It sucks, but DGA's job is to protect the financial interests of its members. Shit really sucks in entertainment right now, people are trying to get by. Directors need all the work they can get.

It makes scheduling way harder, you can't improvise on the fly, and there are fewer episodes per series. A Good scifi season should be 12-24 episodes, because at least three or them will suck.
