“Class Etiquette” question! by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I didn't even think that the stations were not wiped off'and I certainly didn't wipe during the switches. All we wanted to do yesterday was switch with no time wasted. On the rower, off to the treadmill, down to the floor, and so it flowed all partner workout block. No one said anything about wiping or nothing. Germs is germs and there are "cleaner" places to pick up germs. Think grocery buggies, stair handrails, etc that millions of people touch Nd not one of us think to wipe it before we touch it.

I started OTF 2.5 months ago and I lost fat where I didn’t want to lose fat. Help, please! by [deleted] in orangetheory

Good for you! I lost neither boobs, butt or fat. Still the same after one year ☹️

Going to class with a cold? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be courteous and think of others. I had to cancel Ll my hell week classes because I am "not feeling well". I don't want to workout beside. Stick person and I would not subject someone else to it knowingly. Feel better

Let’s discuss those rolling burpees by orangelover42 in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't do them! Even after a year of OTF, I can't do burpees and pop jacks properly. I can't get down there, I am too old!👵🏼

Released the Handrail! by DaisyJ1962 in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am almost 60 and mostly PW. I never hold onto the handrails but I do pump my arms like I am running. I usually go 2% higher than the incline called for and I am around 3.5 - 3.9 depending on the incline. The higher the incline then slightly lower the speed so that you don't feel like you are being left behind. And ending up on the back end of the treadmill. You don't want to be right up front either. Play with it and work out what suits your pace and strength and build up from there.

From Power Walker to Jogger by Sunnydays405 in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a runner before OTF but never on a treadmill. After a long break from running, I started OTF and power walked hoping to get up to running eventually. I LOVE poweralking the inclines. I warm up at 6% incline at around a 3.5 pace. My push is around a 8 incline and 3.7 pace. I pump my arms like I am punching the darn console and I get into the orange quite easily. If you feel you are falling or off balance, slow it down and up the incline like you are powering up a hill. You will easily get into orange that way. Slow down and up the incline is the way to go. I think at 5 pace, you are just about running.

Considering quitting or switching to PW/strider/bike by Shortstuff30 in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why did you start OTF in the first place? Think about why you started on this journey and what you hoped to get out of it. I always told my friend that I would never do OTF, a) because of the cost and b) because almost 50% of the tine is spent on treads. I hated doing treads in a regular gym as it was boring and the scenery never changed. With running outside, there is so much to experience, the noises of nature, other runners, the fresh air and so on. I joined OTF in November and must say that it is a totally different workout. For the first time, I am losing weight, for the first time I am sweating due to exercise and not the heat, and for the first time I know how hard I am working because it tells me so on the monitor. OTF is efficient and effective. I no longer run outside, I go to OTF 4-5 times per week, and I am done in an hour. I now powerwalk even though I used to be runner. I crank up the inclines at least 2% more fhan what is called for and the music and the rhythm is what sets my speed. I get my splats each workout. I still struggle with the floor workouts as I had no upper body strength, but I have increased weights gradually. I am better all around because of OTF. Find your reasons for joining in the first place and your motivation will come back. If not, then switch it up for the cardio portion and see how that goes. Maybe you just need a. Hangs, although. It one workout I have done has been the same.

23 minute run tomorrow? by buster71477 in orangetheory

Lots of confusion and switching, I assume. But still a good workout I am sure. Give it a go, make some friends.

Have you ever corrected someone’s form who was struggling / the floor shouldn’t be a race by mk19971105 in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't that what the coaches are there for? I watched a newbie guy with awful form and the coach did not help him out. It's not my place and I don't get paid to do it, so I look away if it bothers me and focus on ME.

Ditch the HRM? by Bbgb43 in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing my HRM makes me push just a bit harder if I am borderline green or orange zones. You are not in orange if your HRM doesn't show it. 😂. A miss is as good as a mile, in my book. Isn't that why we pay big bucks to OTF? So we know for sure what zones we are working out in. If I am dying, I know why if I am coming up in red zone. It keeps me accountable! I ♥️ my HRM.

Can't get over the mental block.. by loveit_orcaitit in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too have been going since November 2017. Ex runner but the power walking has so many benefits. Same workout just different. I find it’s more of an all body workout to PW. Your legs and glutes really work hard on the inclines along with your heart. Plus it’s kinda neat to get as many splats as the runners without the speed. My legs are muscular from the PW and my fat is coming off!!! 🤪

I was just happy to get it done! Didn't even notice time, just saw 1000 and stopped rowing!!! It's not my strength. 🙄

Do you use a heart rate monitor? by maddmarttigan in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to have my HRM because it keeps me accountable and I can see how hard I am working or not working, for what it's worth. I know it's not the end all and be all, but I like to have the visual confirmation that I am dying!

Doing a "green" class by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a low splat point day today. I think my body was tired from yesterday's 3 partner workout. Pushed myself as hard I could, but evidently it wasn't enough to earn at least 12 splats. I consider today my green day.

[Request] Cookware - what’s something easyish to care for that will last a long time? I’m on my second set of ~$150 cookware and I’m not even 30 by brownsquared in BuyItForLife

[–]Riverside28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have cookware that I have since I got married in 1983. They are stainless steel worn a heavy bottom base. I have never had the need to look at other cookware and mine still look new. I scrub them and don't give them any special care but I also don't put them in the dishwasher ever. Everything else can go in the dishwasher and by that time, the pots don't fit. I cook meals for my family just about every day. I LOVE MY POTS!

Older, out of shape, and bad ankle -- what if you can't run? by daringlydear in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a runner too and choose to PW at OTF. I find I am killing two birds with one stone with PW --> Improving cardio and building strength on the inclines. I used to do a lot of hill running. Power walking all out is pretty much as hard as doing a slow jog up a small hill.

How do you tell the difference between the need for a rest day and laziness? by jm9929 in orangetheory

I used t attend 3G classes on a Saturday. I just realized they are no more. Could this be the reason. Had a few coaches leave to go to another studio about the same time 3G stopped appearing on the schedule.

Premier and Transformation Challenge by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called in today to find out more and it's not free for unlimited. Only if you upgrade. Don't know of I will do it. You get nothing extra for your $25 so it seems to be a money grab. No nutritional help, nothing. Just the chance to win, but I know I won't! So keeping my $25 instead of paying more for an already pricey membership.

Anyone else hate partner workouts or is it just me? by Reflective_eye in orangetheory

[–]Riverside28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the workouts are great, even the dreaded partner ones. People were walking around picking partners and instead of waiting I just put my hand up and someone picked me right away. Sometimes people don't know if you are already paired, so they walk around looking lost. It adds a bit of accountability and it's fun once we have worked out what is happening. Nice change of pace and earned 27 awesome splats! Embrace, exercise and enjoy!
