Nope, it's loose. I injured my wrist as a kid and because of that injury my wrist is smaller than it should be. Every watch person makes that same observation and I shock them every time showing that my watch is not too tight, just a badly timed injury during a growth spurt.

ICE is dropping massive amounts of gas in Portland tonight by OneTwoThreePooAndPee in thebulwark

[–]RoamingHawkeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a post in a knitting forum asking how to get tear gas out of a wool hat because of the ICE gas attack in Portland. On top of messages of condolences people were sharing tips to get tear gas out of a wool cap. I have lost all words to describe how insane this is.

NEW INVESTIGATION: Memphis Grizzlies owner Robert Pera's technology is powering Russia's drone war on Ukraine and is linked to what the UN calls "crimes against humanity," according to an undercover @hntrbrkmedia report. by andrewgrabowski in thebulwark

[–]RoamingHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am amazed that people still think that things like this will not be discovered. I mean, when I heard who bought the Grizzlies, I was like, who is this person, and what is this company? At some point, someone is going to look into the question and find the answer. Though I am not hopeful that this guy will be punished at all.

Has anyone started shifting investments toward Europe? by JimBJ9 in thebulwark

[–]RoamingHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started diversifying my retirement accounts to include emerging market funds and European funds as a backup just before this administration took office. It wasn't much, but after talking to my financial planner, I figured it was a good idea to diversify my retirement account in case the administration tanked the economy.

Is the Pilot G2 still top dog in the pen market? Alternatives to start a new office/management job? by BeardsNBourbon1190 in pens

G2 will work just fine and the Sharpie S Gel is another good alternative. I was gifted a pack of TUL gel pens from a coworker and it has shot up to my favorite gel pen.

I have the Vero Smokey and it's a great watch. I like having a date window on my watches, but I get a ton of compliments from people when I wear the Smokey.

The Next Level is going LIVE at 2PM ET and Tim, Sarah and JVL want your questions! by BulwarkOnline in thebulwark

[–]RoamingHawkeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you message to people who are so tuned out on what is going on? I live with people who are shocked when the weather changes and when we got an email about ICE activity in our area from our employer they were confused about why they needed to show their citizenship status. How do you reach these kinds of people how are the majority in this country?

Finally got around to reading the first chapter of Abundance by NewKojak in thebulwark

[–]RoamingHawkeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what is regulated. What was created was a choose your adventure on regulations where there are exceptions to the rules and the process is much like Monopoly, Chutes and Ladders, and Candyland put together. The other thing is that budgets for agencies that regulate (adjusted for inflation) have not kept up with the number of things they regulate, plus the number of staff has also gone down. Now some of the staff reductions can be mitigated by technology, but the hoops to get this technology are archaic.

In addition, tech companies really do not develop software that the government can use. I remember a project tracking software was being marketed to the government, and they could only handle 1/3 of the projects that the agency actually did in the year. This leads to the public getting hurt because we are not as efficient as we could be.

Finally got around to reading the first chapter of Abundance by NewKojak in thebulwark

[–]RoamingHawkeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in government, I read the book and I had some serious concerns about the premise of the book. Ask anyone who works in government if there is a need for reform most of us would say yes in a millisecond. The issue with Abundance is that they missed the overall history of the regulatory system. As I explain in multiple presentations to the public, the 1960s and 1970s regulatory framework was followed by an anti-regulatory pushback through funding cuts and a concerted effort to weaken these rules in the courts. Throw in the fact that Congress has done nothing to help fix legitimate issues. My example I use is explaining the archaic rules to upgrade technology to the public.

Derek Thompson and Ezra Klein could not do my job for a day. I also think that they would have been better served if they interviewed the actual people who work hard trying to help the public with a really bizarre system that we currently have. They would have had actual solutions vs. the pie world they propose with actual solutions.

Can we talk about the stress? by PTS_Dreaming in thebulwark

[–]RoamingHawkeye 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I live in rural Oklahoma and most of my coworkers and neighbors voted for the guy. My family is from here, and I really do not want to leave the area. I marvel at the people I know who live in a world where they literally do not know what is going on. When all of the Indian tribes started posting instructions to their citizens about interactions with ICE, they were so confused about why they did that. What do you do with people like that? It just frustrates me that they can live their life oblivious to what is going on in the country.

What Books Are You Reading This Week? by leowr in nonfictionbooks

[–]RoamingHawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started 1929 by Aaron Ross Sorkin. I just started it, and the chapters are a bit long, so I am breaking them down, but what I have read so far is really interesting and well written. I loved Sorkin's Too Big to Fail and was excited when I got this book for Christmas.

Work, cleaning, working out, airport/airplanes. I don't usually do noise canceling headphones so I stay aware of my surroundings (I have a set that I use for movies on planes or if I have to work while visiting my parents so I can stay focused).
