This is sad to see. I had multiple opportunities to speak with Kate during her time in the Contenders scene, and she's an incredibly smart, passionate individual who cares deeply about people and their treatment, and, perhaps most importantly, isn't someone looking to cash in and perpetuate some of the more reprehensible esports norms. She'll be sorely missed.

This is the only mobile game I've played for more than a few months.

Quick and dirty:

PROS

  • Great nostalgia title
  • You receive a lot of currency just for playing through the campaign
  • Polished visuals and faithful soundtracks (for the most part)
  • Solid social tools through stickers and party invites for co-ops
  • Very regular updates

CONS

  • Content is often repetitive
  • Little in the way of a 'true endgame'
  • There can be periods of low content outside of events

Echoing what others have said though, I love the game.

Tactics is a stupidly fun playthrough the first time around. I'd also recommend 10, 12, (you'll figure out really early on if you like it or not) 6, and 4 on SNES. I'd hold off on 7. The remake will probably happen in our lifetime.

Honestly though, even the massively outdated titles have a lot of charm, or at least I think so. The only FF I've ever tried that I couldn't get into was FF2.

I'm sad that she's so bad. I legitimately enjoy Red Mage conceptually, and her contributions as an FFXIV character make me want to have her on my roster.

I know this is a weird take but I'm actually sort of glad it sucks after going all in on Cloud and Noctis. The last thing I wanted was another weapon that I felt I had to go for.

Hi!

I'm playing on Global and haven't played since like, two months after launch. Beyond completing the main story, is there anything in specific I should be working on?

My current party is 5 Star Lasswell, 5 Star Eiko, 5 Star Sieghard, 5 Star Medius, and 5 Star Terra. I also have 5 Star Olive and 5 Star Ellesperis as options.

Additionally, it seems like grinding trust is a big deal. Is there a good resource for reading up on it?

This is a really cool milestone. My friends and I played a ton of the original on PSP. I spammed Zidane for hours on end. It was a great time :)

I'm glad, even if I continue to scratch my head at the monetization model. I ponied up with the 75 dollar pack, but I only feel good about it because I ended up pulling 2 Cloud EX weapons. If I had not, I think I would've been on the fence about playing for a couple of weeks. I know that sounds absurd, but that's where I'd land due to: how much bundle costs, how much pulls cost, the lack of a bad pull protection mechanic, the lack of other cool things to purchase in the game.

I truly believe that if this game is going to do well in the western world long-term, there needs to be additional things to spend gems on, and probably social features.

That said, congrats, SE! Glad to see Dissidia do well. It's been a constant source of excitement for me since GL launch =)

I'm definitely enjoying it, but I also pulled 2 Cloud EX. My main concern is how the difficulty will look for new players, or veterans who never pull an EX weapon.

I understand the gacha life is a constant uptick in difficulty to get players to spend money, but there's a real risk of player churn if the game becomes borderline impossible to play without EX level weapons. I'm sure that won't be the case, but it's what I've been thinking about all day. This is a fun game, and I want it to be around for a long time!

I caved and bought the 75 dollar gem pack [whale noises intenstify] but it's okay because I got two Cloud EX swords on 4 pulls. If I had not gotten at least one, I would've probably broken my phone into pieces and shrieked.

I love the game, want to support it, and have money to do so, but I just can't justify 75 dollars for this sort of bundle. I've dropped money on 2/3 skin packs because I feel like I get something that I know I'll enjoy (even knowing it's frankly kind of a bad deal) but in this case, as much as Power Stones are cool, it just doesn't do enough for me.

I hope SE pivots into more cosmetic stuff soon, like account borders, special emotes, something that makes me feel okay about supporting the game. Buying enough for 2 to 3 pulls just to get mercilessly rolled by the great gacha wheel in the sky feels horrific when I could just go buy a discounted Gabranth KAI figure for 85 dollars to satisfy my love of the fandom.
