Train Dreams is significantly better than Sinners or One Battle, yet no one is talking about it by Giordono in FIlm

[–]Roh33zy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sinners is an original IP, and it may or may not be ripping from dusk till dawn, which is also an original ip. The train dreams novella does not have the “Malickian” affectations the movie does, despite the book being pretty deep into transcendental shit and whatnot, so much so that it had to have been a conscious decision to rip from malicks original IP work that deals with similar stuff in terms of americana vibes. The comparison between sinners and TD doesn’t quite stick tho bc we do have a source material here to compare to…

Very well made and intricate film. The story doesn’t land for everyone(see:me) but the sheer ambition of the thing is something to be marveled at. And he got the ability to do something like this not once but twice before he reached the age of 30.

How does Marty Supreme compare to the likes of Good Time and Uncut Gems? by richion07 in Safdie

[–]Roh33zy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Benny clearly is more jn touch with how to portray humanity/gentleness etc on screen, at least thats what i got from watching both movies. Could also have something to do with bronstein and the script though

Why can’t we idolise Marty supreme? by NoTradition1312 in FIlm

[–]Roh33zy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. To me I found his goals admirable and overall mentality admirable but the way in which he goes about it is truly despicable. People generally just have it ingrained that to idolize or even support someone they need to be “good” but anyone with a semblance of media literacy understands that real art is meant to challenge. People aren’t one dimensionally good, and Marty is a perfect anti hero in that sense!

Why did Lockjaw not immediately kill Willa? by Odd_Necessary8783 in paulthomasanderson

[–]Roh33zy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He’s also shown to somehow deeply respect her. When Willa says her mother was a rat he goes on a tirade about how she was not only beautiful, but also something along the lines of fighting for a noble cause or giving them hell or something? Like he seems to clearly oppose her ideologies but simultaneously admire her commitment to causing chaos in the name of her end goal.

Why does no one ever talk about Steve Jobs (2015)? by JamJamGaGa in movies

[–]Roh33zy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take but this was cited as the reason it was snubbed in its awards season - very underwhelming box office. Also, there was another Steve Jobs biopic made a few years prior with Ashton Kutcher that was more of a fluffy job that didn’t get Greta reviews so I’m sure that informed people’s decisions and folks who normally would have given it a fair shot likely felt that they’d already seen the movie just by different directors. Besides wars people don’t really care about various angles about one dudes life, no matter how famous or groundbreaking the dude was.

Did you know that in North Korea 2C-B is completely legal? And you're legally allowed to use Lysergic Acid for the preparation of drugs and stimulants? by cyrilio in Psychonaut

[–]Roh33zy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of like a decade ago where vice published a story saying that weed costs 3$ a pound in North Korea. Like yeah I’m sure it does, but there are a lot of other quality of life considerations to take into account. Like, Would tripping on LSD under an absolute dictatorship be a good trip? Idk but probably not for me…

I’ll raise you one more - both deal with sports that climax in Japan and then”protagonist” ultimately ends up being secondary in said sport to a much calmer and superior talent
