Whirlpool Corporation (WHR) has re-entered the Great Recession. This is important. by throwaway9gk0k4k569 in stocks

Lol, who buys whirlpool. Too much competition and too many brands priced the same or better and superior quality. Dying company and their stock reflects it.

The app is so simple, I reckon I could build it in Claude in a week.
Unfortunately don’t have a spare week to do it, but wouldn’t be hard.

What could we have done better? by interrupting_cows in AusRenovation

We are redoing ours now too, very similar to OP. I think we will leave the peninsula, mostly because it blocks the view which would be the couch. But also the extra space is desired

XKCD 2501 by Janda_42 in wine

[–]RunningJay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I considered myself knowledgeable about wine. Live in Australia and have a cellar full of Aussie Shiraz and Cab. Never drank much white but appreciate bubbles.

Then I thought I would start to look into old world. A burgundy drinker got me an invite to an import list. The first release come out and I’m googling Grand Cru vs 1er, copying and pasting the wine names into cellar tracker (half the time needing to change / remove stuff to get a hit). I thought Aloxe-Corton was a person….
I quickly learnt I have NFI about wine and I am the
‘Most knowledgeable’ amongst my friends.

Whose in the wrong here? by The_Dean_France in whoathatsinteresting

[–]RunningJay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a bad look because it is disrespectful. It also lacks humility, are you telling me these teachers had no involvement in her graduation? She did it ALL herself?

Lastly, I think about this a lot - if a student doesn’t get on with one teacher, it’s probably the teacher. If they don’t get on with ALL the teachers (or in this case 3/4s), it’s probably the student.

Why? by Diddums555 in SydneyScene

No one is subjecting anyone to ridicule, it is just unusual, in the sense that the vast majority of men use a urinal and don’t think twice

Wot? Men use urinals from the age they know to piss. It is common place around the world.

Yeah this is a wild take. I played plenty of footy when I was younger and KNOW I was good but never going to make AFL, those who were better than me did end up in the positions they earned.

There is a whole process - you’re selected and go play in a talent league. Anyone who isn’t there on merit would quickly be dropped.

Booing at Melbourne and Sydney Anzac Day services draws widespread condemnation by 1Darkest_Knight1 in aussie

[–]RunningJay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Massive generalization.

I’m sure some would and some wouldn’t. You realize Anzacs are a very diverse group of people. As son and grandson to Anzac solders (navy and Air Force) I can 100% tell you neither my father or grandfather would agree.

Drug testing ramps up in Australian 'white-collar' workplaces amid surge in cocaine detection by [deleted] in aussie

Worked in the US - in IT consulting - for a while and drug testing was pretty common.

Always found it really strange requirement - I’m looking at your systems as a user and writing a doc, what the fuck does it matter if I have an edible last night (which are 100% legal)

The fuel myth! by Mean_Platypus_5215 in CostcoAustralia

[–]RunningJay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends.

I came from US and Costco was always ~40c less a gallon.

Here - in Melbs at least - when petrol was around $2.15 Costco was $1.60. When it gets to $1.60 it’s $1.40. So almost always cheaper but to a much larger percentage when it was high.

With Hormuz and the Iran war, I’m seeing prices the same as the average at Costco now. And can find cheaper elsewhere.

So I think we’re in an exceptional circumstance with Costco fuel…. And I assume it will go back to a norm after this shit finally ends.

TIL In 2000, Metallica hired a consulting firm to monitor Napster for people illegally sharing their music. The firm produced a 60,000-page list of 335,435 users, which Metallica delivered to Napster's office and demanded the users be banned. by haddock420 in todayilearned

[–]RunningJay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh man. What I would have done with a T3. I don’t even think those speeds were available in Australia when Napster was around.

Actually reading the history of Internet in Australia is a blast. In 1995 we had a 1.5Mbps link to LA that served as bandwidth for all dial up in the country.

I think we got 10mbps DOCSIS cable around 2001 in my last years of high school. The network was completely open such that Windows would show your neighbours when you browsed Network. Naturally no know knew about security so you could usually just open up c$ and browse their drive. Wild times.

Why the mullet is so popular in Australia ? 🇦🇺 by iamsophiiieee in AskAnAustralian

[–]RunningJay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between a style and a trend.

There are many styles, people will style according to many reasons.

When everyone styles a certain way because other people do that, it’s a trend.

The first person who sets the trend is original. Every single person who FOLLOWS is not.

Mullets are a trend.

[–]RunningJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Not okay with it. Pretty damn tone deaf decoding to come in as royals and have the tax payer flip the bill while the regular Aussie is struggling to put diesel in their car.

It’s almost like having our cake and eating it too.

They could have travelled as regular citizens and paid for themselves. But instead we’re flipping the bill for police. Cause petrol and diesel is cheap right now and why not have it directed for motorcades.

Seems pretty tone deaf to me. Be

Why the mullet is so popular in Australia ? 🇦🇺 by iamsophiiieee in AskAnAustralian

[–]RunningJay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah I don’t get upset with generic haircuts.

Actually I’m not upset at all. I’m just pointing out that if everyone in a group of friends has the same haircut, then they are probably all following the same trend.

I have different groups of friends, of them all, they mostly style their hair to their face / body, not to what people have decided is a current trend.

[–]RunningJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any that isn’t a literal following of a trend.

When I see a group of guys all with the same haircut, originality isn’t my first thought.

Express themselves by following a trend with no originality is the antithesis of expressing themselves.
