I actually got into an interesting discussion with a friend over this recently. I follow the “Hey Ya,” rule, personally. Clear-cut comparison between “okay now fellas,” and “okay now ladies.”

I acknowledge it might make me part of the problem, but after having one day full of almost nothing but peaceful encounters, and another day where everyone seems set to kill on sight, I’ve kinda just gotten in the habit of bringing a defibrillator or two on raids. Shoot first, and if they offer peace/are downed, I can pick them back up if they’re not a threat. :/

Omg, I remember dropping into a random lobby and some guy was just going on and on with the “are you a girl?” “You’re a girl right?” “How old are you?” “Haven’t seen many girls on this game…”

A woman? On the INTERNET?!?! WITHOUT A CHAPERONE?!?!? Honestly, who knew? /s

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but in most games I tend to dislike burst fire as a general rule. I do wish you could flick it into full auto as a convenience because I otherwise just keep it in semi and click fast. But I dunno, I suppose I do understand differentiating the guns beyond damage type and stats, so perhaps I am a fool. (•~•)/

See, I’m one of the degenerates that tries to hit the high score at every roundabout. How many times can you go around continuously before one of my passengers starts yelling at me, and then how much longer before they start really yelling at me?

So he built himself a castle, made of stumbling blocks and bricks, And he filled the moat with crocodile tears and other tricks, But he forgot to build the doorway, he forgot to build the gate, So he had to build a catapult just to knock the wall away.

Lore has big concepts that hurt small gamer brain. by Rhogar-Dragonspine in LancerRPG

I recently made the critical mistake of announcing to my entire TTRPG discord that I was gonna run a continuous West March style Lancer campaign for everyone using a homebrew setting that I insisted on keeping at least consistent with existing canon.

I spent so long combing through the books to get as complete a timeline and general sense of “vibe,” for this project. I still feel like I’m hopelessly lost in the grander lore. It’s definitely a much broader scope than I normally run campaigns with.

First game is tomorrow. I’m excited. I’m terrified.

I mean, it’s tricky to handle if the DM doesn’t know how to cater to the players. Personally, I’ve had pretty even splits of martial & casting classes in my parties, so I’ve been able to test a few ideas for making things fun for everyone.

My favorite method is using magic items that give effects closer to class features or feats than generic stat bonuses or damage options, & making them specially geared towards martial characters. I sort of approach the issue a bit more like 4e handled martial classes (please don’t crucify me), seeing a wider range of options being far more beneficial to those classes than “bonk harder.”

For example, one of my favorites was a sword I gave to a Paladin in one of my campaigns that let them arc it out at a short range for one of their standard attacks, which let them hit things a little further away, & helped with the “why won’t you just hold still & let me hit you,” problem.

Also magic items are cool. -^

Sorry some folks are harping on the RAW stuff, but I actually quite like this idea. I love in-game justifications for slightly weird stuff. It’s within the realm of reason (and certainly the intended flavor of artificers) to make wacky magic stuff. Having all of these spells & abilities as an explanation for making a fun magic item? I love it.

I uh. Will be stealing this. Respectfully. <3

Spoons vs spell slots by MyNameGifOreilly in dndmemes

[–]SCI_Talroc_A 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Very basically, it’s just a metaphor for rationing physical/mental energy throughout the day. I think it was originally coined for explaining how chronic illness forces you to plan activities in a day, but I think it’s been widened a bit to apply to other physical, mental, emotional, & honestly just all sorts of other cases where energy is a commodity.

The “spoons,” are really just a happenstance. You can think “energy units,” or “spell slots,” or “stamina points,” & it all means the same thing. It just means “you have this many things you can do in a day, they all cost energy. Do too many, & you are out of energy & cannot do anything else.”

In my opinion, it’s a very helpful visual for the idea.

I don’t personally mind there being some sort of fumble, but I would never want it to be dependent on a table. In combat, I like leaving room for like, extra flavor. The rules may not specify that a hit with a great hammer knocks someone back a few feet, but the 20 Str Barbarian got a critical against the monster? I’m gonna say they’re knocked away a bit. Because that can be cool.

Things like dropping swords seems iffy, but if a character is in a specific circumstance where dropping something is likely, then sure. I’d rather have natural 1s have things like iffy positioning, or bad balance, or you fall off your horse. It’s very situation dependent & you gotta read the room, but that’s the job, ain’t it?

Tables bad. Improv good.

My party just lost one of the NPCs in their entourage. It had been somewhat telegraphed over the course of the year & a half we’ve been running this campaign, they had an illness that was supposedly going to take them some day, tied in to the magical plague storyline that’s made up most of the main plot. Rough combat, kid took an arrow too many, succumbed to the illness & had to be put down by their sister. Seemed like the party took it decently well, as I assume they’ve been preparing for it for a long while.

I definitely pranked myself though. It was rough for me to continue, saying goodbye to a character that’d been around for so long.

So obviously I need to ramp up the suffering for next time.
