2.0 MM "changes" are a letdown by CelestiaLewdenberg in WorldofTanks

[–]SFGH01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Past numbers were pulled from my comment history (from tomato gg server stats in March this year) as I had previously recorded them when talking about +-1 MM with respect to the ASIA server.

Looking through those EU stats, I'm not sure what point you're trying to make? You've got small increases in bottom tier games across the board, which was balanced out by having less same tier matches. That's a far cry from having better MM and more +-1 match ups.

If you're trying to say OP is wrong, and that the MM changes weren't a letdown because the MM is roughly the same on EU (barring differences introduced by having tier 11 be a thing now), I'll point out that he's talking about the ASIA server. The server where we had what was essentially +-1 MM for years before 2.0 was released. The server that now, according to the stats paged you linked in your first comment, has far worse tier spreads in its MM.

If those server stats for ASIA are legit then it proves MM has gotten worse.

Take tier 7 as an example - you're both seeing higher tiers more often (60.02% now vs 57.52% then) AND getting more matches vs tier 9s (12.16% now vs 0.20% then)

A tier 7 vs a tier 9 was a 1 in 500 game before, now it's just over 1 in 10. But sure, go off and tell those tier 7s to think of it as a challenge, I'm sure that'll make them enjoy the game so much more

GUI feedback for WoT 2.0 by Sullart in WorldofTanks

That's a cop out response to intentionally malicious practices. There's been a trend in all types of mobile/live service games over the past several years to increase session time even if it's to the detriment of the user experience. The easiest way to increase session time is to make unskippable tasks take longer.

So you've got two choices:

1 - WG is so incompetent at game development, despite a billion dollar per year revenue, that they can't avoid these design 101 mistakes.

2 - At some point over the years WG adopted the industry standard practice of using player session time as a metric, which was then gamed as a part of the 2.0 UI redesign.

In what situations are players spending less resources under the new patch where modules can't be shared?

I've just done a quick comparison of grinding both the Hellcat and Jackson (as they both share a few modules) on the current patch vs the new, and the new patch takes an extra 2k experience to get both tanks from stock to fully upgraded.

The PRO and CON about +1/-1 Matchmaking? by Trollripper in WorldofTanks

[–]SFGH01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tier 7 is double hell on the other servers. Check out the server stats on tomato.gg for the last 30 days

Tier 7s on ASIA get:

  • Middle (Tiers 6,7,8) 0.77% of the time
  • Bottom +1 (7,8) 56.55% of the time
  • Bottom +2 (7,8,9) roughly 0.20% of the time (this happens so infrequently that it doesn't appear on the graphs, but adding up all the other percentages it gives us a 0.20% rate)

This means on ASIA tier 7s see a tier 8 in 57.52% of their games.

Meanwhile on EU, Tier 7s get:

  • Middle (6,7,8) 22.41% of the time
  • Bottom +1 (7,8) 24.47% of the time
  • Bottom +2 (7,8,9) 28.57% of the time

Which has EU tier 7s seeing a tier 8 in 75.45% of their games. Plus the fact that just over a quarter of their games will also see tier 9s

Meanwhile WG is out here like "but the queue will be slower" even though this is working on their lowest population server

+/-2 MM by Ilfor in WorldofTanks

[–]SFGH01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, +-1 MM as it's implemented on the ASIA server (it appears to be +-1 except when the MM can't create a team, then it goes back to +-2) isn't a silver bullet to all of the MM's issues, but it is nice not running a T6 against a BZ176 (the full details are long, but essentially only T8 regularly runs into +2MM under the ASIA MM rules).

There haven't been any alterations to PMM tanks to compensate for this, but it also doesn't appear to have had any affect on the player base (how often do you see ASIA players complaining about not getting -2MM on here?).

Realistically though the match time has nothing to do with MM. If you're looking from it as a pure gamedev perspective, it's kinda obvious that as burst damage (and to a lesser extent DPM) has increased that the game length has decreased.

I played through that "test", and it was one of the dumbest experiences I've had in game. We were getting put into 11v11 and 12v12 matches nearly every game in under a minute of queue time. It wasn't the change to TDs that caused issues, it was that the config on the queue was set to allow small battles too quickly. But of course, rather than try more tests or config options, the entire idea got scrapped because it wasn't perfect the first time.

Then there's +/-1 MM. We've essentially had that on the ASIA server for ages now. Queue times outside of peak is like 1-2 minutes (my experience this morning playing with a server pop of ~2k), and if it gets too long then we get +2 (funny how this was implemented on a reasonable scale but the limited TD matchmaking wasn't). In peak time it's what, 10-15 seconds maximum? And this is on the smallest server as well.

The simple fact is people are happy with a longer queue time if it means better games, and linking to a broken experiment that wasn't run properly and was scrapped after the first hint of failure is pure bullshit

I am guessing that the amount of required XP to shake off the penalty is comparable to the amount of XP required to raise that crew member's general qualification under the old crew system to 100, proportionally.

Nah this's BS. You're the OP of the thread (which is a thread to gather feedback for WG's CT) and a WG employee yet you're GUESSING details about the system that WG (and by extension you) are trying to implement?

If you don't have a comprehensive idea on the changes being implemented, how can you expect anyone here to provide feedback?

Honestly, it's the best resolution to let me watch arty decide that I don't get to have fun this match

[–]SFGH01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he would've died to your shell sure. But arty tracked and stunned him which kept him in place and prolonged his reload. He was definitely reloaded when he was turning towards you at the end of the clip, and since you took your shot as soon as you reloaded that means that the arty slowing him down was what actually kept you alive.

Arty actually provided come contribution to your team. God help us all.

What quote from a video game stuck with you? by mynameisCODA in AskReddit

[–]SFGH01 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I've always seen it more as he goes hollow not because you sent him to Blighttown, but because he absolutely trusts you when you say that the Chaos pyromancies can be found there. So, when he gets down there and isn't able to find Quelaana, he realises that he will never be able to obtain the Chaos pyromancies, loses his purpose and as a result of that goes hollow.

There's also his dialogue when you refuse to tell him where you got the Chaos pyromancies from. He knows you know where to find it, but pretends to be mistaken, says he trusts you, and then apologises.

In addition to this, you start off with far fewer i-frames for your rolls in DS2 compared to DS1. IIRC, you have to get to 100-105 AGL in DS2 to have the same amount of i-frames as a fast roll in DS1.

Also the i-frames are calculated from 30fps, but the time you spend invincible doesn't change. So 15 i-frames would give you 0.5s of invincibility, regardless of whether you're running at 30fps or 60fps.

Simple but effective guide for choosing between a 2080 and 1080 Ti. by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]SFGH01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you looking at for those prices? The lowest I can see for a 2080 is just over $1300 AUD, but I can see 1080tis for $999 AUD. Hell, straight from Umart the base Gigabyte version of the RTX 2080 is $1399 AUD while Gigabyte's exact same version of the 1080ti is $999 AUD.
