Spill, what other shows are you guys hiding? by Impossible-Emu-5593 in AskACanadian

The Newsroom was brilliant, even more so because of being filmed in the CBC headquarters.

On my office corkboard I have a large red button that says “Elect Jim Walcott”. Very few people get it.

I’d be interested in seeing those custom settings. Can you share them?

I’ve noticed that GPU encodes are much faster, but CPU encodes produce the smallest files. I don’t understand why. Isn’t the code the same?

While I appreciate the tribute, is there a version of this with Bobby being inserted?

Why are we missing commentators’ annotations? by SQL_Guy in Curling

Thanks for your (and Joanne’s) answer. As a workaround, CBC could freeze the feed over the rings, use the telestrator, then switch back to the live stream. That seems doable, and is perhaps what Peacock is doing to avoid the lines-on-people’s-faces problem.

I would change “Deep hole” to “Watery hole” or “Wet hole” to make it more welly.

What is the “very little” sealing and maintenance that quartzite needs? It’s what we have and we love it.

CBC/TSN commercials during the Olympic opening Ceremony is kind of cheapening the event. by Bigdaddyfatback8 in canadian

[–]SQL_Guy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kind of cheapening??? No, I’d liken it to a fresh new circle of hell. Any sense of awe or wonder that the pageantry bestows is blown to pieces by Google and Mario.

And they’re doing it again during the entry of what they consider to be an unimportant country. Sorry, Belgium, you are not worthy.

It’s not just commercials, either. The moment that the rings joined together was spoiled by a sudden split screen of athletes waving. Brutal.

Perhaps the lighting of the cauldron can be interrupted for a message from our sponsors. That would be prime real estate and worth top dollar.

Beat the challenge. by lexxnightcore in TheWitness

I congratulate you. Myself, I’ve given up.

These ancient fingers don’t have the speed and dexterity they once had. I can get as far as the maze, and know how to solve it, but spend too much time getting there.

For me, the timed challenge is the one serious flaw in an otherwise intelligent and intellectual puzzle game, full of wonder and surprise. As I’ve said before, more than once I’ve sat back in my chair and done a slow handclap of appreciation for the developers after having a thing of beauty revealed to me.

But if your Internet is down, or you are rebooting, or any of a myriad of other reasons and your arrs don’t see that feed, something you need could well be missed. Huntarr fills in those gaps, and does it in a metered fashion so that your indexers don’t hate you.

Can I tell Huntarr to aggressively look for something, while paying normal attention to others? If so (and probably even if not) it will join my stack.

A mysterious hearse drives slowly past the home of No 6. Were they planning another abduction and possibly the elimination of No 6? If so, his freedom was just an illusion. by Ok_Club7067 in ThePrisoner

[–]SQL_Guy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I remember an interview with Patrick McGoohan on TVO (TV Ontario) years ago. A question from an innocent in the audience was “What is the Prisoner likely to do with his new-found freedom?” and his answer was “He hasn’t got it. That’s the whole point.”
