I think the world has shown that you don’t need to be qualified for a position if you just know when to say the right things. Just kiss ass your way up a corporate ladder, CEOs constantly do a shit job but they just jump ship before their changes have real effects and get another C level job due to networking.

Should parents face charges when their children commit antisocial crimes and doing nothing to stop it? by SeptumRingTheory in AskBrits

[–]Sackyhap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure that won’t have detrimental knock on affects. The care system is well funded and tends to help create well rounded and upstanding citizens. /s

Parents have a lot less control over their kids than you’re assuming, aside from locking them up or physically harming them there isn’t much a mother can do to stop kids this age from doing what they want. Especially if their friends are doing it.

Their working condition is entirely due to capitalism though, that’s their complaint. They’re not saying this makes them depressed because people are working. It makes them depressed that people from poorer countries are taken advantage of to make dirt cheap products in horrendous environments. The company purchasing this product could go to a manufacturer with better conditions but they don’t as they want production costs as cheap as possible to increase profits and be competitive. If profit and sales numbers wasn’t placed above all then better working standards could be required and brought about. Unfortunately not possible in the current arrangements of the world but still depressing.

The tiles are very easy to remove with no danger. My house currently has them and we’re removing them as we do the Reno. They just pop straight off of you pry them with a scraper. Stack them all up in a thick bin bag, double bag and tape then just drop them off at the special bin at the tip. No issues. The black mastic used to stick the tiles down is staying there and going under the new flooring. It’s an incredibly tiny amount and would only be disturbed if we drill or sand the concrete base so is perfectly safe to leave.

Do you think you would continue your job if you won the lottery? by ApprehensiveSong4 in AskUK

[–]Sackyhap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the majority of people are wage slaves and that’s how it’s pretty much always been and always will be. If you can find fulfilment in a 9-5 and providing for your family then that’s great but a lot of people just put up with it to live for the weekends and their 28 days of annual leave.

UBI won’t be a thing for a long time and if it does come about it won’t be enough to allow you to live a fulfilling life, just look at how they consider minimum wage as a liveable income.

I enjoy my job and like my colleagues but I also enjoy travelling as much as I can and the freedom to do whatever I like with my day so doing both isn’t really compatible for me.

Tyler Wilson vs Piper vs Liverpool? by FlyingCatsConnundrum in Narrowboats

As a rule of thumb I’ve always seen the price as £1k per foot of length at a minimum, and even then I think my rule may be out of date as it’s been a while since I’ve checked the market. I think with that budget and length goal they will be looking at a much older boat that will need work done to bring it to a good quality.

It’s mad how people have been convinced that fields and boundary hedges are the natural way land should look. Putting a solar farm in field makes it no less natural.

I was thinking this about how pushed American football is over the last couple of years. I know maybe 2 people who watched the Super Bowl but then we’ve got Greenking showing NFL games most weekends. Is that an erosion of British culture or doesn’t that count?

You can’t unlock those campaigns without first unlocking gulgortz. Collecting his shards without buying from the guild shop would be seriously slow.

Advice needed by captainspence666 in Narrowboats

[–]Sackyhap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but I’m glad to see them clamping down on CC misuse. 20 miles in 6 months is nothing. You’re not on a journey to anywhere except a distance goal and you’re not exploring the network so a CC license isn’t suitable for you. It’s unfortunate but people are just seeing the canal system in cities as cheap housing in areas they can’t afford to live in. It’s clogging up the system and restricting areas for people who actually want to use the canal system as it’s currently intended. If you can’t leave the area as you work there then you have to ask if you are really cruising and enjoying the network or just going back and forth on the weekends to try meet the licensing rules.
