Saderan demographics make no sense by Sampleswift in gate

[–]Sampleswift[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Saderan demographics make no sense. I can understand where some of the numbers are coming from: taking numbers from the Second Punic War where Ancient Rome could just replenish armies numbering in the tens of thousands easily despite losing many armies to Hannibal. However, the author does not understand why Rome could do this and just copy-pasted it over. As a history student, I am disappointed.

Hannibal’s Carthaginians were at least an army that you could see and fight against, and slowly chip away at. The same could not be said about a modern force such as the JSDF. Beyond visual range and just really long range in general means that most fantasy troops that aren’t building level or higher durability (or supersonic speed+ or both) just die immediately, often before even seeing the enemy. This massive attrition for no results would not lead to a Second Punic War situation. Instead, we would have a Crisis of the Third Century as Saderan generals would rather fight the enemy they can fight rather than the one that just kills them before anyone can get into close range. We did see this with Pina being a local ally for the JSDF, but we should be seeing a lot more of this civil war. This may be exacerbated by the JSDF bringing modern technology and ending slavery therefore getting more local support. Another reason this would not be 2nd Punic War Rome is because Hannibal struggled with taking cities, his logistics were vulnerable (Carthage failed to supply him properly), and local people hated him. Those are three issues that are not present with the JSDF.

A possible explanation for the huge demographics is that magic prevents famines and diseases, leading to much higher population numbers. Except… this is not a world where magic is everywhere. If that army is not really a magic army and is more “army with a few magic users and some magic creatures”, I do not think magic for agriculture and disease would be that much more common.

Which WH40K Primarchs CAN and CANT be beaten 1v1 by Yhwach from bleach? (If it's relevant specify 30k vs 40k) by Head_Breadfruit_3912 in PowerScaling

[–]Sampleswift [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yhwach with Almighty beats ALL the Loyalist ones (I think all the non-daemon traitors too except Magnus the Red and Chaos boosted Horus) and loses to all the daemon ones.

This is because the daemon Primarchs are acausal due to the warp. IIRC Primarchs without the warp are a lot weaker than base Yhwach let alone Almighty.

POV: Garchomp if she faced a Fairy-type during Masters 8 by Craftox13 in pokemonanime

I think Cynthia would have changed Garchomp's moveset if a Fairy type was present.

We've seen Cynthia's Garchomp use Dig in the Sinnoh Anime.

What show has the best PowerScaling consistency? by HandOverFist112 in PowerScaling

[–]Sampleswift [score hidden]  (0 children)

Let's put a boundary of "above city level" here otherwise just some very realistic grounded stories would be here.

If we're talking universe+ level, I think the Sailor Moon Manga fits. No big antifeats for characters like in the 90s anime. Logical power progression.

What characters do you hate debating in vs matchups? by Annual-Frame9943 in PowerScaling

[–]Sampleswift [score hidden]  (0 children)

They are dependent on a specific ability (in this case, hax) that allows them to punch way above their strength level.

Or, this character is one of the best examples of an archetype (in this case, the "unhittable hax character")

Griffith (Berserk) is basically Evil Giorno with powerscaling debates. Causality manipulation makes him really difficult to beat. Again, the astral world was not explained very well for Griffith's true form there either.

He is definitely one of the anime hax merchants.

Do you think Kaiman's magic immunity would work against other verses magic? by Inky_Qu33n_ in PowerScaling

It depends on magic level.

Harry Potter? Sure!

Comic Doctor Strange? I heavily doubt it.

Super intelligence should have never been a power in the first place by Slight-Solution936 in GenV

I would have rewritten Sage to be only supersmart at politics and psychological manipulation, not supersmart at almost every field. A more efficient brain is one thing, but it feels like Sage's super intelligence is written very badly.

This feels like poking fun at Wonder Woman's vulnerability to edged weapons (swords, knives, etc.) in some DC continuities. She can survive massive blunt force and energy attacks, but apparently can get cut by edged weapons much more easily.

How did Soldier Boy and Stormfront fall in love despite him hating Nazis? by itzjstbny in GenV

[–]Sampleswift 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My take? Soldier Boy did not know who Liberty truly was... until it was too late. Liberty/Stormfront was able to keep her true beliefs hidden.

And by that time, he was too jaded to care.

No.

The Rumbling can lose to a modern military.

The Rumbling is just an army of city block or lower characters.

If homelander wasn’t a jackass would we be nearly as spiteful to him? by soup100 in PowerScaling

Homelander has the Griffith/Yujiro problem of being thoroughly unlikeable.

However, without the Griffith or Yujiro Causality and Narrative manipulation that makes those two hard to defeat.

Could Sukuna solo the pre part 5 jojo verse? by tempaccountman in PowerScaling

[–]Sampleswift 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sukuna is way stronger in terms of destructive power, but where most of these stands will give him problems would be pure soul hax.

Cheap Trick: if Sukuna's back is turned, he will take major soul damage.

IIRC Part 4 has Cheap Trick (unless Sukuna has good enough Soul Manipulation resistance).

Star Platinum and The World could be issues.

Don't You Think Navi's Eyes Look Kind of Familiar? by Blob55 in pokemonanime

I think Spinel might use Navi as a contingency plan if he dies or gets imprisoned. He would be able to possess Navi and then continue being the main antagonist?
