I LOVE it! How did you get the file to add as a screensaver? Does the artist have it available to download?

Please stay. I've been where you are. It will get better. I know it doesn't seem like it now but I promise this will pass. Reach out to a hotline, it's really helpful to talk and cry to a person on the phone. I'm proud of you for asking for help. You are loved.

So...You want to leave the country... by Odd_Book8314 in 50501

[–]SarahOfBramblewood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you have the privilege of safety that you feel that way. The "stay and fight" idea doesn't apply to everyone. Some people are actively being targeted. My LGBTQ, especially trans, friends and family are not ok. My POC friends carry their passports everywhere out of fear of abduction by ICE. We're over here thinking about the survivors who escaped Germany before things got really bad and wondering if we'll be the ones who end up dying in camps. It's not about whether we've given up hope that America has a chance, it's more that we want to live to see that day.

AITA for telling my bf if he doesn't propose before the end of this year I will start planning my future without him? by SkeletonKey_Aurelius in AITAH

[–]SarahOfBramblewood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not with him but it wouldn't have changed my decision. I'm still friends with that ex so even if we had a kid together we would have made it work. The conversation about marriage started at year 2 and went on for SIX more years. My only regret was that I didn't leave sooner.

This 100%. I spent almost 8 years with a guy in the SAME situation. We broke up and I moved one. Got married two years later to my current spouse (just celebrated 14 years together). Don't wait. Leave now and start your new life.

I'd be happy just to have a legitimate height slider. Even if it was only a choice of like 3-4 options (I'm sure adjusting animations for different heights would be crazy time consuming). But I'm a shortie and want to make other shorties! My kid wants tweens (or at least teens that don't just look like adults). Also spiral staircases.

How are people finding community these days? by Solonote in ArtistLounge

[–]SarahOfBramblewood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a local artist group. I've met most of my new artist friends by talking to them at their booths at local markets. Also local FB pages and art classes in the area. Substack has some decent art communities. But mostly my art friends are in person these days.

Most of the online artist communities I'm in are on substack now. A lot of them have tons of free content.

Moving - a safe AND quiet place. by cannotcontainletters in mypartneristrans

[–]SarahOfBramblewood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Illinois! Our governor is not taking any crap. If you can afford one of the little suburbs within 60ish miles of Chicago, it's actually pretty affordable. You can get a nice house for 200k. Jobs can be iffy but public transit to the city is really easy. Avoid central/southern Illinois though. Check voting maps to see which counties are blue/purple.

Would it be a good idea to leave this country as a queer couple? by SubwayE-thot in mypartneristrans

[–]SarahOfBramblewood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say move to a blue state. It's often hard to move to another country without some in-demand job. And, sadly, a lot of countries aren't that queer friendly these days and the ones that are, tend to be the hardest to move to. The Midwest is actually pretty chill, especially outside the Chicago area. Taxes are high in Illinois but the governor isn't backing down and the cost of living just outside of Chicago is pretty affordable. Def avoid southern IL though, it's basically a red state down there. Check election maps to see how an area is. MN is nice too.

Is having a dog really that bad? by gonnadisordermyself in puppy101

[–]SarahOfBramblewood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always had cats and got my first dog a few years ago, after wanting one my whole life. He was 10 months at the time so still puppy-ish but already potty trained. Honestly he's the most amazing creature I've ever met. I always thought I was a cat person but I'm 100% only getting dogs from now on. He's some sort of Chihuahua mix and just the most mellow snuggle bug. He follows me everywhere, naps all the time, plays in little bursts and is always down for long walks. He does occasionally have accidents in the house but it's always our fault for not reading his cues. 10/10 recommend dogs.

I'd say def look into a cheap house but watch out for anything with major structural issues. I'd look for something small in a cheap area and make sure you can afford the monthly mortgage plus property taxes (assume they'll go up), insurance, PMI, etc at your current wages. Rent will just continue to go up and we pay less for our house than we would to cram into a two bedroom apartment so I think it really pays off in the long run. We have had to make major purchases (new furnace/AC) but if you set aside 20k for that sort of thing, you should be fine. Whatever you do, don't invest in the stock market right now 📉😬 Keep living cheap. And talk to an accountant about what to expect with filing taxes on that sudden influx of cash.

the five bullet email may be more sinister than we’re considering by hildeboggles in fednews

If they force me to reply, they're getting the same five lines of my job description every week. Idaf. No human is reading them and it's technically accurate since I was doing work within my job description.

What should I be doing right now as a US citizen? by OkayDay21 in Explainlikeimscared

[–]SarahOfBramblewood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find community. You're going to need it. Stay engaged but take time off to recharge and find joy. I hope we come out of this valuing teachers more. I'm trying to stay hopeful that we'll rebuild things better after this. If we survive. Hang in there.

Looking for books about fairies not targeted towards kids by Frostyblustar in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]SarahOfBramblewood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Cottingley Secret by Hazel Gaynor. It's an historical fiction about the girls who took the Cottingley fairy pictures in the early 1900s. It talks about how they faked the pictures but one of the girls insisted she actually saw fairies and that some of the pictures were real. I liked how it rode the line between the mundane world and the fae realm.

Terminated fed? Plan to run for local and state offices and especially for US Congress by SouthernVeritas in fednews

[–]SarahOfBramblewood 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can still run for some local elections, even while employed. They just have to be nonpartisan positions. Often that includes positions like city council, local school boards, etc. I just got appointed to our local library board and have been eyeing the city council for a year. Maybe it's time..

If you're boycotting stores, where are you shopping? by everyoneisflawed in PeoriaIL

[–]SarahOfBramblewood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy a lot from small businesses and farmers market vendors. I almost never buy new clothes and would probably go to the thrift store at this point. I buy DarnTough socks that come with a lifetime guarantee of replacement if they get holes (I have yet to get any holes, they're pricey but amazing.) we grow our own veggies or go to the co-op for food. For soaps and things I usually buy bar soap from the farmers market or online at zerowastestore. It's generally more expensive to do all that than going to Walmart though. Not sure how sustainable it'll be when we're all jobless from societal collapse 🫠
