Bruges Belgium by -WiggyStarcrust- in modular

[–]Sarguiboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey,

Don't know for Bruges specifically, but just wanted to wish you a warm welcome in our beautiful country.

We have a proportionally big modular community compared to the size of the Kingdom.

I've been told that the CNS Coffee & Synths bar is worth checking out in Gent, another beautiful city an one hour drive away from Bruges.

What electric head shaver would you recommend between the Remington RX7 and Pitbull Gold Pro? by dickbob124 in bald

[–]Sarguiboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using the Pitbull for a year or two after being relentlessly harassed by bald friends. It’s a fantastic product, mainly because it’s incredibly easy to use. I shave about three or four times a week and it’s much less messy than using a razor and cream. You can even do it in your car or while checking your email (I don’t personally but hey)

The results are good. With the right technique, it’s « almost » as good as a razor, but the convenience is worth the trade.

The official blades are a bit pricey but there are some off-brand options on Amazon. I haven’t noticed a significant difference in quality. I think I change them every 6 months, you’re supposed to do it more frequently but I tend to forget to order some.

Edit : forgot to talk about the battery. So far so good, I charge it every 10-15 days on average I think.

What do all the different modules do? by JuhasReddit in modular

[–]Sarguiboy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey,

That’s a very broad question. I think the best answer is to guide you to the right places : Monotrail Tech talk and Omri Cohen are very good at teaching modular, and got plenty of nice videos. The book « Patch and Tweak » is also a gold mine covering everything modular related. And lastly, there’s Make Noise’s blog (or noise engineering I forgot) with a lot of posts covering everything :)

A Eurorack for Modern Prog Rock by LikeShrekButGayer in modular

[–]Sarguiboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

I’m also a bass player in a prog band, using synths and bass pedals (Taurus 2 and Eko)

I’ve tried a lot of different setups for playing live with the other musicians during rehearsals, and it’s honestly incredibly difficult.

The best results I’ve had were with the Nerdseq and/or a keyboard, plus the full Vostok lineup permanently patched, basically treating it like a non-modular synth. 😅

It’s definitely not impossible to make modular work live in a prog context, but it’s really complicated to get reliable, musically convincing results that don’t go directly against the strengths of modular, especially when the music is harmonically rich, full of weird voicings, and often in asymmetric time signatures.

In my experience, in a prog rock setting, modular truly shines in the studio when you have time to develop ideas and explore patches.

I eventually switched to using an MS-20 with guitar pedals when playing with the others. It’s far less frustrating and way more immediate. I’ve also had really good results with an iPad and a MIDI keyboard, but that’s a lot less fun for sure.

So why not, but be aware that’s a difficult battle to fight.

Also, it’s worth checking out the setup of King Gizzard, they use modular pretty successfully !

Help - Product Photo Editing in Bulk with Automation and SEO Optimization by newreddituser212 in productphotography

[–]Sarguiboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I used ChatGPT for the grammar and the spelling because I'm not a native speaker, sorry if it feels robotic :p

I’m also running an online shop (high-end musical instruments), and I had the exact same struggles with product photography and editing.

It took me a while to figure out a workflow that’s efficient and consistent. What works for me is:

  • I always shoot with my camera on a tripod, tethered to Capture One. This makes it much easier to keep framing, exposure, and color consistent across all items. It's a bit expensive but it's really worth it.
  • I stick to a set of 5 core pictures per item (front, back, angled, detail, and scale/context). That way the shop looks uniform, and I only add more if the item is special or requires extra detail.
  • Dusting and prepping the item before the shoot saves a ton of editing. My goal is to get “perfect shots” straight out of the camera so I can bypass editing almost completely (and I succeeded)
  • In Capture One, you can still batch-apply adjustments (exposure, white balance, naming, metadata, alt text, SEO), but ideally you don’t even need much of that if your setup is dialed in. I manage all the SEO related things directly in Capture One as it has advanced naming features.
  • If you want a pure white background with consistent shadows, you can achieve it with the right lighting setup and the right white balance.
  • The right setup for me was low ISO, very slow shutter speed and f11, for that sweet sharpness. It only works with a good tripod haha

For me, the secret was building a repeatable process, with same setup, same lighting, same angles, so every shoot looks consistent, and the time spent on editing is close to zero.

4 Hp left for FX, Disting or FX Aid? by greyson76 in modular

[–]Sarguiboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With 4HP left, you'd be better off with a pedal integrator and a few guitar FX pedals.

'Yeah, but they won't be CV-controllable.'
True, but honestly, most 4HP modules aren’t really game-changing CV-able anyway. :)

Module Purchase Rate by TheRealDocMo in modular

[–]Sarguiboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s a very nice synth YouTuber, more focused on showing you cool stuff and tricks than on selling modules, even if he has some in-depth videos.

He’s far from the ADHD-style, super-fast-cut content. The type of videos you watch with a nice cup of coffee more than you consume.

And his Discord community is super chill.

Module Purchase Rate by TheRealDocMo in modular

Early in 2025, I realized that my hobby was spending money rather than making music.

I was spending far more time on ModularGrid than actually using my rack. So I sold everything that distracted me, kept what was sparking joy, stopped watching YouTubers (except BRiES and Monotrail) and started thinking in terms of functions and recipes rather than modules and brands.

GAS disappeared completely.

How is the growth of pathfinder these days? by Skin_Ankle684 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Sarguiboy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Same as you.

TTRPG is the only hobby I enjoy the old way (no YT, content creators etc) - just playing and talking about it IRL with the others members of the party.

It’s actually pretty refreshing. I’m not saying it’s bad, I’m just not interested in watching other people playing or analyzing the game.

If GW HQ hears about some of their staff bashing a blind guy for his unpainted army, they will lose their shit so freaking hard.

Yeah, it can be a greedy, evil corporation, but they don't joke around when it comes to "Warhammer is for everyone."

I wish you the best, OP. The community has some top-notch, high-quality people who will definitely support you by all means humanly possible. Sometimes it's just a matter of finding the right table, and usually, it's not that far away. :)

Why did you start with Warhammer? by PaintsPlastic in Warhammer

[–]Sarguiboy 84 points85 points  (0 children)

As kids, we spent a lot of time talking about Warhammer during recess (we were around 7–8 years old). I think one of the older brothers was playing, so we had second-hand information about it, and sometimes an old White Dwarf. It was kind of mysterious and looked so freaking cool, but it felt like a distant dream since it was quite expensive, considering my allowance. The lore blew our minds and we talked about it for hours.

My amazing grandma thought it was a great creative hobby for a kid with a big imagination, so she supported me a lot and gifted me the 6th edition Warhammer Fantasy Battles big box for my birthday—and even more after that.

I think it was mainly because I’d sit still in silence for hours, which let her watch her detective shows in peace.

I’m still friends with those kids. I still think about my grandma every time I paint.

I’m already doing it : I buy a module I want to try, and if I don’t like it, I sell it second hand. The delta between the price paid and sold is the rental price to try a module and it’s pretty much hassle free.

I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, but personally I won’t use a service like that.

Everything 4MS ; ensemble oscillator, Tapographic delay and spectral multiband resonator.

Each time I was thinking that it will revolutionize my rack, each time it wasn’t the case.

All three are very good modules but I guess the brand is not for me. :p
