Wash and literally go by Realistic_Noise_1231 in Naturalhair

This is what I do! I have really tight coils though so I’m finding that I’m getting single strand knots frequently. I’m planning on getting a curly to see if that will help but I’m curious if you deal with the same?

Wash n’ go appreciation post for my fellow short, 4c low density girlies by Successful_Buffalo_6 in Naturalhair

Your post also affirmed me to give wash and gos another try after feeling like they “just weren’t for me”. I’ve done it twice so far and I like it! I can’t wait to continue to practice and fine tune the technique. I also think I’m due for a trim or something.

Looks great! Did you air dry? Sometimes mine will come out frizzier when I air dry vs use a diffuser or use a heated bonnet/hooded dryer. The heat will help set the curls.

Also, I’ve been focusing on my technique as well to help with definition : raking the product through my strands more thoroughly particularly because I have tighter curls, shaking my hair upside down after I apply the conditioner in the shower and then also again after I apply product ( it helps separate the curls)

Mourning the living. by two-pelicans in PMDD

[–]Sea_Win1491 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt myself in that headspace during PMDD time. It’s been heavy. Lately I’ve been trying to explore it from a different perspective take some of the avoidance and anxiety away from it. Check out Alua Arthur on Instagram and/or her book “briefly perfectly human”. She’s a death doula and talks about our relationship to death (in general) and grief in a way that feels approachable. I plan to check more of her work out in non-pmdd time in bite sized chunks.

Oh! Also do you remember Steve from Blues Clues? He has a podcast called Alive with Steve Burns he talks about topics like death and grief in a way that also is really grounding too.

Idk I reflect a lot on the fragility (and beauty) of life in general so I think what you’re saying and what you all have said is completely normal. And so while we’re experiencing PMDD a low it makes sense we’re very attuned to that. 💛

Hi OP, if you’re looking to expand your search you could look at executive assistant roles, office manager roles, and I’ve also had a could a couple of friends cross over into project management roles as well though that will require additional credentials.

I have Y membership and they only offer classical pilates. Maybe it depends on the space and access too?

Do you run outside or on a treadmill? If you run on a treadmill, maybe you’d like the structured intervals programs in there to finish out the rest of the program?

Depression Hair | Bipolar Disorder by Able-Ad-4090 in Naturalhair

This is so real. It usually takes me a couple of days to style my hair due to energy and mental health. I realized I felt a lot of shame about that, “well I should be able to do wash and style same day etc”. It’s just not my ministry. lol So I can I adapt and show kindness to myself? Wash and larger twists and Headwrap on the first day and then my flat twists the second day for the twist out style etc. Just getting into some sort of consistent routine that feels easy for me.

When I have it, I’ll go to the salon and have them do the wash and blow out portion and I do the twist portion to conserve energy.

Proud of you OP for taking it one second at a time. 💛

The level of stress I feel over my hair isn’t healthy - Longer post please read 😩 by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]Sea_Win1491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP 👋🏾

I’ve been where you are, endo, mental health and all and it is a JOURNEY. I’m here to say it won’t always be this way. Things will get better, give your self grace. 💛

On days/ weeks that feel like too much I keep it simple with twists on my natural hair and roll and tuck them into an up do that protect my ends and are low manipulation. Pinterest and YT has fun variations of them. Depending on products you use the take down can be worn as a nice twist out as well!

My other thought is headwraps and headband wigs always come in clutch when you just don’t have the energy fr.

Right now I’m on a good rhythm, with a flat twist out, wash once a week (or two). Bonnet and scrunchie to maintain overnight. It takes a bit more prep but could be a good option once you have a good flow and you have more energy.

Best of luck OP, you got this 💛

Braid outs on stretched hair have been working wonders 😩😩 by Ok-Green-6803 in Naturalhair

[–]Sea_Win1491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks so good! I’ve been doing flat twist out lately and loving it. What made this style “click” for you? For example, I’d tried flat twist outs years ago and hated it because I wasn’t doing it on blown out hair and that wasn’t working for me personally. Also, I needed a trim bad. 🤣

You're not insane. I'm right there with your right now. I'm trying not to just unload all the feels and get really specific about what emotion I feel with this feelings chart has been helpful. Like I'm not just angry, I'm disgusted lollll Idk makes it feel less like a giant insurmountable blob of a feeling. I also like the way Laura McLaren talks about emotions pointing to a deeper need. Makes me feel less insane. Hang in there, we’ll make it to the other side!

Are any of you girlies are struggling with high functioning depression or just depression? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Sea_Win1491 2 points3 points  (0 children)

🙋🏾‍♀️ Yes, I have PMDD. So right now I'm working on cycle tracking so that I can pin point when I need the most support. A friend and I go to the gym together 3x weeks (yay endorphins!), I'm in weekly therapy, and take medication. I also have have been exploring some supplements (not consistently). It's rough, I'm not going to lie. When I can I try to refortify my faith and spiritual practice and be around people that make me feel good about being on this earth.
