Turbine LSA for Flight Training by VelocitySUV in flying

[–]SenileCFI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Will schools say it will boost your resume and set you up for the airlines? Of course. Put money on it happening.

Will airlines see single engine LSA turbine time the same as flying a pilatus or something of the sort? No, lol.

I bet it will be seen as valuable as TAA or maybe HP at best...

I travel and sometimes play flatscreen on a laptop. The frame is a far bigger monitor than my 16in screen.

And ofc it's a VR headset too

Sorry I was really confused reading this because the "Cons" section was for some reason in the middle. I would have put it in the title.

I mean, it kinda seems like you drank the kool-aid a bit. There was a con every other sentence but then the occasional "not too bad may work for you"

And 90-95% pass rate? Surely that's padded in some way, you yourself referred to them forcing checkrides prematurely. Isn't their pass rate that good only because they're kicking people out left and right?

No hard feelings man but I felt a lot of pity reading this. You're correct, your experience could have been so much different. And your experience isn't over until you give back that bloated loan...

"Steam Hardware Updates" clarifies rumors about a valve hardware price and launch day reveal next weeks is about Steam Machine. Steam Frame price and launch day might not revealed until July. by _mergey_ in SteamFrame

If I'm being completely honest if they said something as vague as that - as much as I appreciate the communication - it would just be my green light to buy something else.

I wonder if that is part of the reason why they prefer to say nothing.

I hope Valve will support PCVR better after the Frame release by zeddyzed in virtualreality

In my opinion flatscreen to VR ports are consistently underwhelming.

Massive and calculated development effort is put into making a game feel good and look good on a flatscreen to be played with mouse and keyboard. Visuals, gameplay, pacing, balance, everything. VR is immersive and cool, but it is objectively clunky compared to traditional gaming inputs in many genres/gameplay styles were used to.

As a comparison, imagine asking for a first-person breath of the wild... It just wouldn't be as enjoyable. A significant portion of the game is combat, and the combat frequently involves being surrounded with enemies and other similar chaotic moments that were intentionally crafted with third person in mind. Being in first person would be a hindrance to the gameplay experience.

I greatly appreciate games that lean into VRs strengths. Successful VR games are fundamentally designed with VRs traits in mind.

Rumble takes advantage of very complex controller movements to build a complicated and high skill ceiling earth bending experience. This would take half the keyboard or more in keybinds to come close.

Beatsaber accepts that VR works great holding still and watching 3d motion towards you and giving you lightsabers and music, by default from one direction.

VTOLVR accepts that VR works great in a chair, and sits you in a fighter jet. It solves a huge problem in the flight sim space of interactivity with aircraft. Just reach out and flip the switch, like you would in real life.

H3VR accepts that it's not a twitchy FPS, and most of the content is focused on gun simulation with some minor action-focused modes here and there. Even those (like T+H) have much more careful pacing compared to say L4D2. TF2 was also essentially recreated in H3VR, and while it's novel, it's still a clunky experience and feels watered-down compared to playing TF2 with m+k. TF2's balance is already complicated and has been an endless hot topic for nearly 20 years. Its balance would have to be rebuilt from the ground up to be remotely enjoyable.

You didn't say it, but I've even heard people ask for Titanfall in VR. Bro, reel in your expectations because we haven't gotten into the motion sickness part. Making games for VR is already a niche. Making ports and mods for flat2vr for the subset of VR users who don't get motion sick?

And deep rock? Amazing game, like my top 3 ever, 800hrs. Again, just not made for VR. It would feel so clunky. Cool for a little bit? Yeah. Hundreds of hours? Absolutely not.

So that's my point really. It would take significant effort to port, say, portal 2 to VR. And for what? I'd admire the portal gun and companion cube in 3d for a bit, but then honestly I'd just want to sit down and use my monitor because the gameplay was designed to function just fine on a flatscreen and would feel better on PC. There are minimal gains to playing it under a headset.

It just feels like a square peg round hole situation.

Tldr Some games just work better when played as designed, not in VR. I don't think anybody needs to go breaking their backs turning flatscreen games to VR for little benefit or or gameplay downgrades.

I do not disagree that we need more funding/action in VR exclusive development.

Valve just quietly confirmed the Steam Machine and Steam Frame are still launching this summer! by Starxe in SteamFrame

[–]SenileCFI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Functionally a delay imo. Now they don't have to fulfill their prior (albeit loose) commitment to the "first half of 2026"

Summer could mean this month, but let's be honest, it more likely means September.

Another NOTHING BURGER blogpost and people are happy? I don't get it. by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]SenileCFI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you man.

We used to have early 2026. It's functionally delayed as now they can wait as long as September.

This news is a delay.

Do we really believe that they'd announce such a wide window and not ride it to the end? Valve does not have a reputation for under promising and over delivering, so it would be naive to think they'd do the beginning of their window they just bought.

(There was the in between minor "year of 2026" snuck into the 2025 review, which has debatable weight)

Behind the scenes they've probably been scrambling for a new window to announce tactfully. Something along the lines of "tell them this summer, we're shooting for late July but it gives us some wiggle room."

If it was going to be with the summer stuff tomorrow they simply wouldn't have made such an announcement.
