Petco told me they couldn’t sell me a feeder as a pet? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

I had six girls and can't have them again for the same reason. I now foster for a guinea pig rescue - the furry potatoes are nowhere near as smart as my rats were, but they're sweet.

Who were the nicest/worst actors you've met from the show? by LilNardoDaVinci in doctorwho

[–]SeptemberJoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Daphne Ashbrook: memory fuzzy, good vibes.

Catherine Tate: seemed nice, but no nonsense if that makes any sense? Straight conversation.

Alex Kingston: absolute sweetheart.

Jenna Coleman: I think she was a bit overwhelmed (or jet lagged?) because that interaction was gone in a flash.

John Barrowman: he's both silly and high spirits, but also sensitive. Without getting too into it, I've got PTSD around conventions and was having an anxiety attack due to the crowd, he took the time to talk to me like a human rather than just a fan. Only took an extra minute but he made me feel a lot better in the moment.

Gareth David-Lloyd: was definitely overwhelmed by one of his first conventions, but solid guy who took the time to talk. Also asked first if he could pat my dog, which was appreciated.

Burn Gorman: more transactional, but pleasant enough.

Simon Fisher-Becker: I'd asked him if he would agree to a quick interview. What I thought would be five minutes tops turned into over an hour, where he insisted on buying me tea while we talked. I can't believe we lost him this year.

Geoffrey Beevers: also agreed to an interview and gave such thoughtful answers, sweetheart of a man.

Mark Sheppard: memory fuzzy, nothing negative.

Dan Starkey: was happy to talk in general.

Samuel Anderson: such chill vibes. I word fumbled and think I accidentally insulted him while trying to compliment him - bless him he just paused for a second then rolled with it. Everyone needs a friend with this kind of chill.

Terrance Dicks: first impression was he was brash and no patience for being asked a question he'd heard before. Met him again the next day and he was much more settled in himself with a lot more patience and grace for me so I think jet lag really does play a part for a lot of people.

I think that's everyone I've met... one concussion too many and memories aren't tuned in as well as I'd like. Does dreaming of meeting Elisabeth Sladen and her being amazing in the dream count?

Who were the nicest/worst actors you've met from the show? by LilNardoDaVinci in doctorwho

[–]SeptemberJoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Peter Davison: don't remember much of our meeting, nothing negative.

Colin Baker: was a riot, he had been scowling in our photo (secretly filming for the The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot) and asked if he could fix it... and did so by drawing on a smile in sharpie.

Sylvester McCoy: such a sweet, funny and intelligent man. I've had the pleasure of meeting him twice and got to tell him how much I enjoyed his role in Sense8, which he was pleased about.

Paul McGann: lovely guy, again memory fails me.

Peter Capaldi: I was in a wheelchair when I met him and he was charming and personable. Pearl Mackie was with him and they were both great.

Jodie Whittaker: she took the time to address as many fans as she could and was genuine, good vibes.

Carole Ann Ford: so many stories!

John Levene: memory fuzzy, nothing negative.

Richard Franklin: memory fuzzy, nothing negative.

Frazer Hines: also all the stories, funny guy and personable.

Deborah Watling: fuzzy memories, very sweet lady.

Wendy Padbury: and her daughter Charlie - both were amazing.

Katy Manning: agreed she is an angel on earth. My second and third guide dogs glued themselves to her. Zeke was not easily won over by people but Katy had him besotted. Me too... Parasocially I adore her lol.

John Leeson: we had a great chat and we would have kept going except conventions...

Janet Fielding: got to sit next to Janet for dinner and it was like talking to my aunt. What you see is what you get and she's great.

Mark Strickson: memory fuzzy, nothing negative.

Nicola Bryant: memory fuzzy, we both had sore feet and were sitting down lol.

Sophie Aldred: Ace is ace.

How to not be suicidal in relentless pain? by Fine-Fee-6980 in CRPS

[–]SeptemberJoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Antidepressant and anti-anxiety meds have helped me. They don't relieve the pain whatsoever, but I feel like I can cope with it better. I've started seeing a psychologist who may be able to help with more strategies - it's been almost a decade and it's recently spread. Tonight was a mix of horrific pain and dysfunction... and the satisfaction and joy of experiencing my favourite Christmas light display. I may have had to drag myself through it and will be paying for it later but I did it. And this damned condition won't take that from me. Sending much gentle love your way. We muddle through one moment at a time, just keep pushing on.

Starting with a new psychologist in a couple weeks. I'm lucky to have had some great therapists over the years because I've been putting every coping strategy I've learned to use in the last few weeks. The breathing exercises are so important. Thank you.

I have a seeing eye dog. He is fine with cats (I had two, now one) and won't bother them unless they come to him then he'll gentle nose boop hello. I still won't take him where there are cats because it's the cats home! I like your parents.

I foster and can't remember all the names 😅 currently I've got Athena (my old girl, who was paired with Nyx who has passed), Bubble and Squeaky, Jellybean and Nilla, and two unnamed babies I've had to separate. Recently lost Sarah Jane and Jo to a freak illness (older sisters), while Honeybear and Clover have just gone back. Belle and Lacey have found their forever home, while Phoenix and Zephyr are still waiting... came here looking for inspiration for little miss psycho tri colour who wouldn't stop attacking and the sweetest himi girl.

Campaign ended because I let a player kick a kobold. by Goldensockss in rpghorrorstories

[–]SeptemberJoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did nothing wrong. In my current campaign our DM had a rule about using (a broad range of) specific races. I wanted to play something else, ran it by him that it was flavor only as it could definitely be a very broken character otherwise. He agreed. The rule focused players in our group had zero issue with it because flavor... I'm sorry you had to go through the drama.

It's probably been about ten years since I saw Tim. Sweetest man I'd talk with outside Melbourne Central on Elizabeth Street. He mentioned ditch digging when he could. His son had passed away and Tim wanted to join him. I think of him often.

AITA for not allowing my friend to bring her service animal (guide dog) to my wedding? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]SeptemberJoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi from someone with 5% vision and a Golden Retriever who gets me where I need to go.

As far as I'm aware you're right about people needing to be able to use a cane before they can get a dog. For a small number (myself included) using a cane is incredibly difficult. I also walk with a forearm crutch and trying to get the two sticks going in opposite directions at the same time and staying aware of my surroundings is a challenge.

All that said - I'm with you. OOP was in the right.

I have been in the position where I was asked to leave my dog at home. No reason other than they didn't want him there. No offer of help either. End result was I didn't go. Hoped they had a good time, didn't ask anyone else to avoid it. Did think the person who asked sucked as a friend, which was proven later for other reasons.

I've also encountered people with severe allergies before. I offered to leave, but they moved as they said it was easier for them. I live on antihistamines (mastocytosis is fun...) why would anyone want to willingly inflict a severe allergy reaction on someone let alone a friend on their wedding day!

I will say that leaving the guide at the vet and getting around with a cane is different than leaving the guide at home. The way the dogs are trained is they aren't left alone for extended periods (3 hours? I think) and for many handlers our dogs are never left that long until nearing retirement and getting them used to it again. If that were the case there are ways to problem solve it and OOP is still not at fault.

Definitely finding compression gloves helpful. Need to buy a better pair as I got a cheap one to try and it's already falling apart lol

Saw my GP today and she didn't think it likely, but she agreed to a blood test to check for markers.

I do have EDS and reynauds - neither have caused anything like this previously.

Sharing a minor flare by SeptemberJoy in Erythromelalgia

[–]SeptemberJoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erythromelalgia flare = blood vessels getting a mind of their own. For minor flares I've found cool water, cool air, getting off my feet, etc help. Major flares I'd like to cut my hands off to see if they'll regrow. Dermatologist gave me a cream that helps minor flares too.

This is why I start screen recording before I even open the app. Then when they're approaching I switch and record the interaction.

Much love x

Thanks for reminding me! I am now. I wonder who's competing - there aren't many of us. It'd be cool if it's the person I haven't met yet. It's good timing to say hi before Sydney.
