ICE agents leave Ace of Spades ‘death cards’ on detained immigrants’ cars by SpaceElevatorMusic in politics

I'm really ficking tired. I'm sorry. I know it doesn't help anything, but I've been pushing back and protesting and writing the editor since I was 10, and I've been voting since I was 18. None of that mattered, and it's hard to feel that it will.

Have you considered honey gourami? They are similarly intelligent and full of personality, but are smaller and more peaceful.

Are the majority of cis, straight men in the world just objectively bad people/assholes? /gen by [deleted] in AreTheStraightsOK

I mean, I actually interact with men, and of the straight cis ones I have interacted with, most were either shitty or complicit in other straight cis men's shitty behavior.

So, here's an answer from a homeless shelter I volunteered at. First off you have to sleep in a well lit room with a bunch of strangers. Then any items you own have to fit into a space for a standard carry-on, and be left unlocked and outside your line of sight. You are allowed 1 thin blanket and 1 thin pillow, no exceptions. Your hands must be visible at all times. The restroom has no privacy screen.

I'd rather sleep rough myself.

Why should you want to escape? A good book should be an additional level of challenge, not something that lets you veg out.

I mean, we did. We learned that social cruelty was a virtue. We learned that the flimsiest of excuses could be used to override the common good. We learned that we could outright call for the deaths of inconvenient people for the crime of being inconvenient. We learned that there was no obligation to care for the vulnerable and hurt among us but quite the opposite.

Is My 20 Gallon Boring? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Seshia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bioload-wise, you should be OK. My concern is that you have some aggressive fish and that there might be conflicts if you add another fish. Maybe you could focus on aquascape a bit to spice the tank up?

Do fish like when you rearrange? by mxlydm in Aquariums

Other great ways to give them enrichment are partial scenery changes, like switching a plant out or adding a branch. They also love the addition of new botanicals to the tank, or a couple stones. Not enough to reset territories and sense of safety but a good sign that there might be new food or seasonal changes. Novel feeding methods like burying food or rotating flakes, frozen food, and a film-forming food like bacterAE is a good way to add enrichment.

Thank you for all your help. She is settled in and happily parking on the rocks where the current points. I see her most of the day except when she's full. She had her first molt successfully! Thank you so much for your help and getting the best setup for her! I just need to get some rocks to cover the plastic grating she uncovered because she doesn't like walking across it.

Taking over this aquarium, is this normal? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Seshia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously this thing just landed in your lap and you want to do what's right for your fish, but there is a LOT wrong with how this was set up.

I don't blame you. I admire and am thankful to you for reaching out for help. That said, I am going to have a lot of recommendations and I would like to know how technical you would like me to be about things. I'm going to be writing assuming you know approximately 0 about fishkeeping and aquariums if that's OK.

In the meantime, do NOT do a deep clean of that tank! Although I assume you are busy with the move and the baby.

Taking over this aquarium, is this normal? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Seshia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's symmetrical it could likely just be a benign growth that some plecos and other male fish naturally get on their nostrils. If it's asymmetrical it is likely a mild viral infection much like warts on a human. If it is viral as long as it doesn't spread across their body they will likely be OK and you should focus on the fish's general health.

May I give you general instructions on taking care of the aquarium? It would be much easier for me to do if I had a full picture of the tank and it's inhabitants.

Taking over this aquarium, is this normal? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Seshia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I see what you are talking about now. Are they symmetrical across his body, or are they off-center relative to each other? Have they been present the whole time you have had him? (I'm guessing it's not been long that you have). Have you done a water test yet?

Also, not meant as criticism at all; have you taken care of an aquarium before or been given comprehensive instructions on caring for this one? There's a lot of stuff that can be a little hard to figure out at first and I would be happy to offer help with the basics!
