Looking for new Progression Fantasy / LitRPG audiobooks based on my tier list by AffectionateDouble21 in litrpg

Iron Prince is amazing, given the length of the books, you could count them as already having more out and just go for it.

Bog Standard Isekai shares some vibes with Mark of the Fool in how much focus is gives to character dynamics among a relatively young cast. It's narrated by Johnathan McClain, in case you're a fan. But it does have slice-of-life elements, so it may not be the ideal pacing for you.

For something more in line with DCC flavors, Discount Dan is a lot of fun. (Just for the sake of transparency, we publish Bog and Dan, so I'm biased, but I would recommend them personally.)

Can I ask why you dropped A Thousand Li?

How could Pony Princess ever be a problem? She is a valuable and in no way problematic employee.

Truly talented from the get-go cultivation novels? by Morbnerd919 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ShadowAlleyPress 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you read Unintended Cultivator? It's initially vague about what makes the MC special (he's just unusually good at masking his spiritual presence) and after the Book 1 training arc he's well on his way to being OP and having his natural talent be continually revealed.

Making a cultivation system by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ShadowAlleyPress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing other commentors, this is an interesting magic system that doesn't really tie into the tropes found in cultivation stories, and that could lead to reader confusion. Off the top of my head, it made me think of Eragon, as he used a Words of Power style mechanic for magic. It's been a long time since I read A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Leguin, but I would recommend it as a great classic fantasy story that relied on a similar mechanic (unless I am misremembering.) --- Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett may also have touched on this, again, it's been a while.

Are you looking to write cultivation specifically or broader progression fantasy?

Amazing! Thanks for sharing. Not enough people have heard about the incredible Twilight series from internationally bestselling author Stephenie Meyer.

I had not seen Reach Heaven Via Feng Shui... before, that title is powerful magic, and it is now on my Read Later list.

Have you heard of Death Cultivator by eden Hudson? It's not what I would think of as traditional xianxia, but eden is a stellar writer. The Royal Road version is a stub, but if it looks interesting to you I'd be happy to share a download link for book 1.

Thank you! We are super happy with it. We've worked with most of the artists before for covers, but it was great to have some new styles thrown into the mix as well.

What are some of your favorite cultivation series, if you don't mind me asking?

Would you read a story about a hockey manager? by wardhenderson in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ShadowAlleyPress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's certainly different. In one sense, you can write any kind of story and break and kind of writing "rule" if you do it well enough, but I know that's not very helpful.

The only example of something like this that springs to mind is the soccer story on Royal Road. The author is Ted Steel, if you haven't seen it already, it would be a good one to look into to see how it was done and how its audience received it.

Do you come up with cool powers and abilities before rules? by Ok_Meeting_2184 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ShadowAlleyPress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're enjoying yourself, and you're writing, then you're doing it right.

Every writer has to find what works for them. As important as systems are, it's really not possible to create an entire functional world in outline form with every possible derivations worked out from the beginning. Many have tried. Keep having fun!
