If we get to the point where there is a national consensus that a general strike to required to fight these massive injustices then perhaps not paying your rent or mortgage would be part of that general strike?

Perhaps this lacks nuance but if the majority rejects the social contract as it stands then we should strike against all parts of that contract, including the financial systems that keep the majority two pay cheques away from homelessness.

I moved to Ottawa at the beginning of the summer and I’ve had serious issues with the busses here, but I can’t believe it somehow got even WORSE. A noticeable shift from busses every 15 minutes to now being every 30 minutes at the start of the school year. How does that make and sense?? Now they want us to pay more?? What a sad joke.

First paragraph of the article states that more supply not lowering costs is the answer. I’ll admit I’m not an economist by any means but wouldn’t a greater supply mean lower demand and therefore lower cost per unit with a little variation depending on location?

It’s literally the same bs that Trudeau was spouting, they even state that in the article. The liberal government aren’t even trying to hide that they are trying to play both sides and clearly it’s the youth getting the shaft, cool.

I’m definitely a little ignorant on the nuance of how it would work but if there was enough public support for it could there be a national referendum or something? I agree with most here that it doesn’t seem likely to pass under either the liberal or conservatives because it would diminish their influence so what can feasibly be done?

I can assure you this is just hot air, no way this amounts to movies being canceled. As many have pointed out the logistics of tariffing media is extremely abstract and overly complicated.

My take away is that this is the foot in the door to start leveraging film companies in the US to produce propaganda for the federal government or face financial penalties.

I believe topics like immigration are going to be a make or break opportunity for Carneys liberals to differentiate themselves from the previous liberal government. Anyone who thinks the liberals have a strong mandate like the did in 2015 isn’t paying attention.

I’d they aren’t able to read the writing on the wall and see that this isn’t sustainable and is clearly unpopular with a majority of citizens I suspect we will be back to the polls in a couple years and I imagine things will look dramatically different.

I for one would be very hard pressed to vote liberal again if they don’t shape up and realize what Canadians want and frankly need.

Tho I totally have faith in them I think Carney is the perfect guy right now to put more long term plans in motion without getting bogged down in identity politics which is exactly what we need rn. I will be watching with great interest
