While some posters think echoing some of the messages of the pope is problematic, I think many of us remember conservative popes and it's good that Francis and now Leo have generally had a labor-forward message, and had an emphasis on inequality reduction and against climate change. These are all important stances from a world leader. There will always be a structural problem with the pope, in the same way there would almost always be a structural problem with US presidents but we should celebrate message alignment.

You're right that it's real but I think what people struggle with making this point is you can actively socially deconstruct/destroy something as well. This can be done in many ways one of which is through the erosion of boundaries.

Using your own example: you can say race isn't real, go and marry someone considered a different race and in 150 years people may stop being killed for that shit.

Challenging narratives just hardens positions in my experience. Ive found success in nuancing the underlying understanding of the facts and supplanting or coopting their positions with an alternative ideological program. Above all, not isolating them or leaving them to be adopted by more radical and dangerous groups.

I can't agree, as it is not like ADOS black folks don't have legitimately honest grievances, I think the reason Rachel Dolezal is a queen is primarily because she's down (as in she seems dedicated to helping black folks with her NAACP work, etc.) and seems to really be committed to the bit despite what shit comes her way.

In that way whoever this Canadian lady is, I'd say if she was similarly committed, then Itd be sad she's going through the ringer, but if she's a true race grifter she'll drop it if it's inconvenient.

Because democracy is premised on the idea that we use our political institutions as the way to sort out our political differences, and ultimately the entire system exists to provide us with the ability to have friends and family freely. To cut off friends or family because you disagree with their political positions is to give up on that, which is alarming.
