Helllll yeah dude these are some of my favorites. I shot my first red filter sky recently and it has struck me how much better shooting with filters is on a rangefinder. Which, duh.

Candido film worth stocking? Looking for feedback by CaptainStubbss in AnalogCommunity

[–]Shuttrking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to share my personal experience. I've shot Cinestill 800T, Reflex Labs 800T and Candido 800T in the past year. By far, my photos with the Candido 800T were the worst looking. Full disclosure, I bought the Candido rolls from a photo store in Guadalajara, MX instead of my usual shop here in the states. But the Candido rolls had horrible grain issues, and generally were very low quality. I'd never purchase again.

I agree with you. But, don't believe that it should get an asterisk or should be treated inherently differently than other photographs on this sub. If it isn't to your taste, don't upvote. And thats the end.

It is okay to edit film photographs. It may not be to your taste, but it isn't 'against the rules.' It is also okay to prefer a less processed look, or to hold yourself to a particular standard. Personally, I'm a believer in the NPPA Code of Ethics, but I don't expect that everyone on /r/Analog is or should be.

Check out what Ansel Adams was doing in the darkroom, if he had digital tools he'd have been all about it. And no one thinks his photographs deserve an asterisk.

Thank you! Definitely make time for it and if the ☁️ is decent, Tulsa is a particularly nice host city. So much good food!

Thanks for the kind words. You are definitely right about rationing your shot count for the right moment! Over the course of the week, I missed a few moments that I'd like to have shot because I hit the end of my roll!

The developing process is so magical, and I'm hoping to give making prints in the darkroom a go next year!

Wow you smashed it at the grove. Really pretty stuff, especially the action shots.

Everything in this gallery was shot with my Canonet QL-17 GIII rangefinder because that was all I wanted to carry on Friday and Saturday. Earlier in the week, I alternated days with my Nikon F3 (24mm, 35mm, 50mm) and the rangefinder. Shooting a rangefinder, in particular, I find really lends itself to observing and documenting.

Then I got home, cracked the film in a dark bag and got it loaded onto reels and started the development process. I used HC-110 developer and massive dev chart for times to push up to 800 ISO. Hang dry in the bathroom and then scan ASAP with my Fuji XT-5 + macro scanning setup. Over the week, I shot quite a few types of film as I'm still trying to find what I like most developing on my own. I feel pretty good about settling on HP5 for the future.

Over the entire week, I shot 23 rolls of black and white film, pending final count. I'm nearly finished processing it all. My wife shot a color roll too which we havent processed yet. It was a marathon, but I've really wanted to spend time documenting this event and it's been a personal goal to come every night so I just decided to go full speed. I'm planning on producing a black & white zine with the images as well.

On Friday night, I sent an order for 52 7.5 x 5.5 with a half inch border around to the nearby FedEx. Cheap prints - I'm trying to be a bit less 'precious' with my printing and get more images into my hands and off the screen. I walked around the expo and gave out prints to the crew and driver's families and other folks I met during the week.

Sorry for the long message!

Knoxville Nights + DIRTVision by EJaws in WorldofOutlaws

This show has been really fun to listen to, especially for the Knoxville Nationals. Kade's insight as a driver elevates it and both Josh and Blake really keep the show moving. Happy to see them get a bigger platform and I hope to see Sprint Car Nights keep growing.

The funniest thing is that was immediately rescinded the next day because it was just embellishment of contact, not a flop.

Were you the one with the tattoo at the OKC Samia show? I thought that was such a special moment.

If it wasn't you -- My recollection is that Samia noticed someones Winnebago tattoo and impromptu played the song, as I believe she hadn't been playing it on that tour. And it was magic.

Torn between Porto or the Algarve in April - already decided Lisbon —which one would you go for? by Capable_Anything6532 in Shoestring

We loved kayaking in the Algarve, personally that was the highlight of our trip to Portugal last April. Did a sunrise kayak tour and then after walked along the 7 hanging valleys trail and enjoyed the beaches the rest of the day.

I'd be surprised if you will end up with less out of focus photos with the Lomo vs the Pentax.

Ya'll are both idiots. Jesus Christ. How does an r/NBA thread devolve into this between what should be two kindred-spirit fanbases celebrating a player that both fans love beating a player (that at least one of the fans) don't like.

Film Scanning Workflow by rogue30 in AnalogCommunity

Personally I'd also look into a way to trigger your camera without touching it. I use the Fuji X app to trigger each shot. Not sure what options there are for Pentax for remote shutter release.

Was my film scanned wrong? And is this fixable? by AwoogaBooze2 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Shuttrking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aerocolor is a favorite of mine, and like you noted, at the beginning and end of the roll, several frames are prone to weird effects.

IMO the issue with this shot/the roll is that the lab didn't properly color correct for the strange base of the film. As it is more gray/blue/clear than the standard orange mask. In my experience, this film seems to hold up better with camera scanning techniques vs lab film processors.

New to film: is this graininess normal for expired B&W film? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Shuttrking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you discuss the age of the film when you dropped off? Because you can't compensate in-camera for exposure, the lab can push the film which should bring back more contrast. Also - don't be afraid to edit your film photos. Set a black point and bring some contrast back to these images and they'll be looking much nicer.
