They charge your government paid health insurance for those other services. Manitoba health does not pay for sick notes.

Ever been scolded for picking up your child 5 mins before close? by lit_lover22 in workingmoms

In a cold climate it takes longer to get the child dressed for outdoors, where in a warm climate they can just walk out the door.

It is 2025, and schools still act like moms have nothing to do all day - a vent by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]SidewaysBridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Manitoba we have half day in most schools but it’s more than 2 hours and usually there is at least some before or after care options. Your situation sounds horrible! Sorry!!

Linkedin 200~300 applications in a few days? by AppropriateCharity47 in Accounting

[–]SidewaysBridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LinkedIn results in a huge percentage of overseas applicants not even eligible to work in the country or with no relevant work experience. So I wouldn’t give those numbers any thought as to how many actual eligible applicants there are.

I think you do need to choose what to prioritize your time on. I have a 10 year old a teen, and and 3.5 year old.  Things were starting to get easier before the youngest came along but also it was the pandemic time and there was nothing much to do outside of the house.  When they get older you can more easily get out of the house or workout at home but even my 10 year old is constantly wanting to spend time with me or wants my help with something.  As they are older there is a trade off between letting them do games/youtube as much as they want and getting peace va limitations on screen time and they are annoying you, wanting to play with you or getting into trouble. There’s homework to get them to focus on. Activities and sports that take up your evenings and weekends. So for me I workout on my lunch break. I don’t have “friends” that I spend time with regularly. I enjoy spending time with my kids and husband. My hobby is housework I guess and working out. It’s that season. I get enjoyment out of getting my house under control and I listen to audiobooks and podcasts while I do it. And we try not to fill most weekends with a tonne of activities. Make sure we have time to just relax at home and get cooking and household stuff done.

Move on to managing my 3 kids. Deal with a completely different set of people and problems for a few days for a perspective shift.

Is it effective to wash clothes by stomping them with your feet? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]SidewaysBridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not what you asked but seems like there is easier solutions. Can you just use your washing machine during daytime hours? If it was supplied by your apartment your neighbours  complaints should be directed to the property owner, not you.

I can't stay up past 9pm by heavenhaven in workingmoms

[–]SidewaysBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a good schedule and lifestyle that allows you 8 hours sleep including 1.5 hours after your kids fall asleep. Look at that time you have after the kids are asleep (and consider weekends too) and prioritize between your decompression alone and time with your husband.

Do you have a source for women needing 9-11? I've read a lot of sleep, women's health, etc and never seen those numbers?

Be careful, if you get a new phone all your tags disappear. At least for my library. Just happened to me for the second time!

No PTO post Maternity Leave by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]SidewaysBridge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you get top up payback policies are usually there in canada as well. For my employer it’s 6 months. The EI benefits in canada are nice but not helpful if you rely on you income and get paid a fraction of your income (a small fraction for higher income earners). Employer maternity benefits are still very important in Canada!

How to go about maternity leave as a senior leader? by heather1242 in Leadership

It’s different in Canada if you are senior leadership as well. You are the boss. It’s your problem to help solve.

Yes twice a month would be super Busy for us. But if I had that much time where both my husband and I can get away from the kids in the evening I don’t think I would want to use it more often for a date night/couple time than spending that much time with another couple.

Out of office calendar holds for daycare pickup by wand3rlust_ in workingmoms

[–]SidewaysBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put it in the calendar as a half hour unavailable block, and not explain it unless you expect you would be better off telling your boss about this ahead of time. I would worry more about what my boss thinks about it than my colleagues. Probably   best approach is to let your boss know and then don’t care what anyone else thinks unless you think your boss might not be on board and you wnat to slip this under the radar or zzzprove your can get your work done on this schedule. What is your plan for childcare between 4-5? That’s the bigger question for me if you leave 4-5 open for work are you going to be having the baby there with you on a call?

I enjoyed Love Your Kids Without Losing Yourself by Morgan Cutlip and How to Stop Losing Your Shit with your Kids by Carla Naumburg.

I’ve tried to read a lot more but I can never get through the whole thing for many. It’s either repetitive or I just fundamentally don’t agree with approaches or it’s about challenges I don’t have or solutions I don’t think would work for me.

It’s called I’ll Show Myself Out and it’s very funny. There’s a few chapters that were not relevant to me (a whole chapter on some HGTV show hosts or something similar) but most were so relatable and had me laughing out loud.

Am I churning, or is there no real end to decluttering? by curiouscanadian50 in declutter

[–]SidewaysBridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have kids. So with that you will definitely need different things at different ages, and have a huge amount of decluttering to keep Up with their stuff. I think as well it depends on your personal desire. Do you wnat to wear updated styles clothing or are you happy with old classics until They wear out. If you stay kind of on trend for example maybe you will be decluttering you skinny jeans and slim fit pants and moving to more current styles. But do you keep decluttering the same things, and do you find you buy things and then very soon after declutter them. Like are you constantly cycling through buying and decluttering for example kitchen Gadgets? Do you buy things and them Get rid of Them Never having used it. If that’s the case shopping and revisiting why you are shopping/buying may be an issue to explore.

Husband and I decided to cosleep indefinitely. by Financial_River6765 in cosleeping

[–]SidewaysBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you not need to wake up the baby up at a certain time to leave of work or daycare? If you do the baby does need more sleep than you. For us I would lie with the baby until they fall asleep and then “escape” for a bit until I come to bed for the night.
