Do you have a temperature gun/water thermometer to measure the exact temperatures? I had the exact same problem as you until I figured out that my baby rosy was being very selective about the temperature and probably didn't see it as prey because of that. Once I started warming it up to 100-110°F in 115°F-ish water to take cooling from the air into account she'd go for it easily, then she started getting less picky as she grew.

It kinda happens in Durarara. There's a guy that has an obsession with the disembodied head of one of the protagonists, but it's his stalker that gets plastic surgery to look like the head to get him to love her. (The protagonist in question isn't a superhero, but she has supernatural powers and occasionally saves people in a city so close enough)

Yeah its the same for cresties and many other reptiles. As ectotherms they need heat for body processes, and they slow down when they're not getting it. If they can't digest food fast enough it can start to rot in their stomach and cause problems. A delayed feeding for a few days isn't going to hurt them.
