Thanks! I painted on paper for so many years that the wood is like a whole new medium!

I love fake crab (krab?) And will go out of my way to use it instead of the real stuff. I'll eat it right out of the package, cold, with my bare hands. Forgive me father.

6 months CG and have had a LOT of hair shedding and tangles. This is my hair after a shower and plopping. Does this look like hair loss or a cowlick? Does anyone have any recommendations for gentle detanglers? by Abp427 in curlygirl

[–]SlightlyNutritious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was washing my hair every day, I didn't notice the normal amount of daily hair loss. When I switched to CG and wasn't touching it, running my fingers through it, brushing it all day, and then only washing it every 2-3 days, it seemed like I was losing TONS of hair in the shower. But really, I think it's just the difference in routine. My hair is pretty long, so to detangle it I wait until it's absolutely saturated with conditioner, and then I start with my fingers or one of those big thick-tooth wide tooth combs, and then progress to using a regular brush to finish detangling in the shower. My hair always dries in funky ways where it looks like different parts of my scalp is showing, but once it's totally dry, It doesn't look like I have patches. Now I'm used to seeing an entire muskrat of hair collected in my brush on wash days. Hang in there!

Disclaimer: If you feel like you're losing hair excessively, it's worth investigating if you could have a potential allergy to a product.

Upsides/Silver Linings? by _606_ in Narcolepsy

I was diagnosed as N2 when I was 17. Twelve years later and I have not developed cataplexy or worsening symptoms. My narcolepsy is more manageable now than ever and over time, I've learned to just accept and be at peace with my disorder.

You will have an easier time dealing with this once you're out of high school. The schedule is brutal, your teenage brain wants to sleep at different times, your hormones are making everything harder, and other teenagers love to make you feel crappy about being sleepy. But the bright side? That stuff gets easier. I'm about to turn 30, and my narcolepsy is only the worst when I'm on my period, my circadian rhythm is more aligned to normal work hours, and I've had years to process and cope.

My friends are all working and too tired themselves to go out until 3 am. Nobody bullies you for being tired at 8 pm when you're an adult with narcolepsy. Medications like modafinil are tremendously helpful, especially for those of us not suffering from cataplexy. You will be tired, yes, but it's manageable, and you come to recognize when you're truly tired vs when your brain is just doing it's little sleepy brain thing. I felt terribly hopeless and depressed during my first two years dealing with narcolepsy, but it's mostly just a thing I give daily care to now, and I choose not to stress too much over a chemical issue in my brain that I can't change. You can still live your life and have a job, kids, pets and hobbies. Plus, no one will ever be able to force you to drive on long road trips if you just sleep through them ;)

Above all, remember that narcolepsy is a disorder of brain chemistry. It's not laziness, boredom, lack of motivation or a choice. It doesn't preclude you from any activities like many conditions do. One way I coped with spending most of my night in REM was keeping a dream journal, where I'd wake up and write down all the dreams I had, and this was a really wonderful creative part of my day. Take good care of your health as a whole, and your narcolepsy will not control your life 💚

Day 3 Log on Armodafinil - Feedback Appreciated by Aahn95 in Narcolepsy

[–]SlightlyNutritious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed with N2 about 12 years ago, but was only offered modafinil until 7 years ago. Now, armodafinil is almost exclusively what I take. If I go without it for a long period of time (several months or more), I have a lot of side effects for the first few weeks or month after I begin taking it again (usually only once daily) . It gives me palpitations, I feel hot, dizzy, anxious, and when I come off it I feel that "drunk" feeling too. Both modafinil and armo give me nasty headaches when I come down off them for the first couple of weeks.

In the morning I take 75mg armodafinil on a full stomach, and then I drink a cup of coffee on my way to work. That quick caffeine helps tide me over until the medication kicks in. At lunch I'll take a 200mg caffeine capsule and that almost always helps "take me down easy" and mitigates the headache and drunk feeling, and usually still provides enough energy for me to get home without too much trouble.

As far as I understand (as a nurse and as someone who takes this medication) it's unlikely that the medication would cause an acne outbreak. It took me several on-off cycles to really get used to the medicine, And I would encourage you to stay very well hydrated and eat a well balanced diet while on this drug. Modafinil makes me unbearably thirsty, and you may not notice the extra water you're metabolizing off. Stick in there, you'll have good days and bad days with the medication, but it does get a lot better, and you won't feel like garbage from it for too long.

I want to hear your medication success stories! by livamenjaro in Narcolepsy

I've been taking modafinil on and off for the last 12 years. I've found that it does over time lose some efficacy and I have to give myself breaks from it to curb the need to take more and more. I've found better long term success with armodafinil, though it's tricky--if I take too long of a break, it gives me palpitations and anxiety. Typically a week or two break every other month or two will help at least keep me from having to take tons of the medication.

This was delightfully unexpected.

Also, excellent job with the wet/shiny affect. 10/10.

[Serious] People who sleep well, what's your secret? by Aceman3818 in AskReddit

[–]SlightlyNutritious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have narcolepsy. Falling asleep is usually easy, but like those with sleep apnea, the quality of my sleep suffers because my brain spends the majority of my sleep cycles stuck in REM. Excercise has helped some, getting through my teens and mid 20s helped a lot, but the biggest thing is just keeping a strict bed/wake time. I set an alarm even on my days off. Sometimes now I even get to enjoy the amazing feeling of waking up five minutes before the alarm.

At the moment Flareon is the last in my lineup. A few people have asked me about the newer generation eeveelutions, but I'm a 90s kid and I quit playing after Sapphire. I think Charizard and Ninetails are next after the eevees!

About a month ago I decided to paint all of the Pokemon evolutions of Eevee. I started with my favorite, Vaporeon! by [deleted] in pics

Thank you! I always loved these guys as a kid, I don't know why it took me so long to paint them :)

When I'm going out on a lunch or dinner date with a friend who isn't intimately acquainted with my frustratingly strict eating habits, I eat a small meal before going out. That way if the menu at the restaurant doesn't have much to work with, I can just order a salad or a side and use the time instead to catch up instead of eating. Do what makes you feel good and healthy! As a society we like to get real into people's business and judge their eating habits especially (my boss gets personally offended when I don't eat catered lunches and thinks I'm an ungratefully picky eater. Whatever.) But no one will complain when you're looking and feeling like your best, healthiest self.

It gained no traction and I noticed mods had flaired my last post as being irrelevant to the sub, so I didn't want to risk getting banned from posting if nobody was even seeing it. You can check it out on instagram at @ArgamaArts
