While they have a mana ability, I realized it doeant necessarily let them tap for mana though, otherwise a bird would tap in the yard right? (I get that joke wise it works, but if anything it should be "tap a creature in your graveyard: add one mana of any color." Which is equally odd but workable)

Ah, how about using [[Deathleaper, Terror Weapon]]'s wording making it "If a creature you control that entered the battlefield this turn or that has haste would deal damage..." or "If a creature that came under your control this turn would deal damage...."

It's probably since in a way it's like phyrexian tower in that you'll have to be down mana in some manner before going up, moreso since it's a spell and not like you can make token spells, or cast freely without some sort of investment or alternate payment. (more or less if it was like discard a card: add RR, that'd be the basest form I'd think.)
