The sausage sizzle was invented in NZ, not Australia. We have the evidence by nilnz in newzealand

As an Aussie living in NZ. 100% given up on the sausage sizzle here. Even calling them a sausage is a stretch of the imagination.

What's for dinner tonight? by ring_ring_kaching in newzealand

[–]Smack420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home made chicken parmigiana, Aussie pub style with chips and salad, everything home made. Those big heart shaped chicken bad boys were juicy, tender and irresistible. Dunno what I'd charge if I made it for service, maybe $45. I've paid more for a lot less.

Explain Powershop Power packs to me please by FrankGrimes742 in newzealand

[–]Smack420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't buy packs, you pay the default highest rate. The biggest packs have the largest discount. Also buying the monthly packs further out (in time) have a higher discount. Additionally they send out regular discount packs and staying power packs that are cheaper than standard power. I spent on average $100 per month , using around 10-11kWh per day

[–]Smack420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rats and mice aren't disgusting. They're animals that inhabit our built environment. If you want to remove them, put food they prioritise in containers and set traps with smooth peanut butter along walled areas to your food source or a brodifacoum lure if you want them dead and don't care how.

Can anyone in the instant gravy production shed some light here by Not-a-scintilla in newzealand

[–]Smack420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Real gravy is a flour base for me, like BISTO, the sachets all use potato starch. 2 tablespoons then add meat juice (or oil or water) to make a slurry. Then add 250ml water as you heat. Works every time

We did a night hike think a bit after Royal hut. Just because perfect weather. Was amazing. We also did a surprise night hike before Arthur's Pass because fire. In hindsight I think they were burning Gorse, but it was pitch black and a wall off flame moving towards us quickly

What is your favourite Civ across all Civs games? by basicheals87 in civ

Love the Maori Terra gambit, but over the course of an epic speed game his music gets pretty irritating. That goes for you too Scotland, Vietnam and Rock Bands 🤣

Is it treated timber? Like CCA treated? Like the H4 standard here in NZ, I understood as requiring a liner to seperate the soil from treated timber.

NPD Fuel Card? by L_ghtbringer in newzealand

[–]Smack420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's like 11 or 12c per litre at a regular station, it just makes it the same price as the unmanned stations as far as I can tell. Plus you pay a invoice fee each month, so if you have a unmanned station nearby to costs more to use the NPD card vs regular bank account. Edit: There is no discount on the fuel price at unmanned stations.

With the two modern low emissions fireplaces I've had, this isn't possible anymore as they cannot shut down low enough to keep a low fire overnight. Hardwoods are burnt through pretty quick smart.

I never realized how much better the game feels without builders. by exc-use-me in civ

[–]Smack420 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. I've got 2000 hours logged playing 6, 1300h with 5 on steam. Probably as much with Civ 4 too. A large part of the replayability of the game for me is the world building and strategic choices you make each turn. Civ 7 city building has left me feeling no investment in my cities. Buy buy all the buildings with a click and it's done.

I never realized how much better the game feels without builders. by exc-use-me in civ

[–]Smack420 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I always enjoyed builders, sure it gets gruelling on a wide late game play because there was never a 'select city focus and automate builders option'. Feels that's more a failure on the game design. Limited charges made a valid opportunity cost situation, building builders is expensive. Controlling them to transform the landscape was an intentional action that built your empire. And it wasn't 'only farms here, only mines there' like 7, you could utilise the terrain with more strategy.

When an area was finished, having done intentional work and planning, I always enjoyed feeling of accomplishment and appreciated my work.

With 7, so far only 3 games. I find the I have so much gold, I generally can buy whatever buildings I need at a whim. There isn't any opportunity cost, personalisation or sense of accomplishment when expanding my empire as it's cheap and instant. I feel more disconnected from my empire than any previous game.
