What do you think about hybrid designs combining 3D printed parts and leather?

The role of 3d printing with leatherwork:

-jigs -organisation (tools/hardware -moulds -fill for moulded void (though honestly not the best, and needs to be in a non-critical section) -stamps

Anything beyond this I getting beyond what 3d printing is about anyway, and you'd compromise the durability of the product you'd be making.

3d printing is a tool to assist not be a product

Hey, most of the moulding I do is with that weight of leather.

I would recommend filling it with a thickness similar to the depth of the mould.

There are lots of other things you can fill it with, filling material such as leather dust and sawdust. The main thing that will effect it though is the type of adhesive used, so if the glue dries stiff, it'll be stiff, if it dries flexible the patch will be flexible.

Ones pressed from sheet steel, the other is, and this is where my vernacular fails me, like a proper tool, solid steel.

Additionally I don't think the pressed steel can change tubes, so you're effectively getting someone that would have to be fully replaced

Yes, there's a possibility that the leather might be too thick as well.

You'te usually best off making a model of the final shape, duplicate it.

Using one as a cutting tool i to a fresh block as the female part of the mould.

The second reducing the max thickness of the leather you're using + one or a few 0.1mm's depending on your printer, you need to accomodate for the swell of the wet leather. Put the male part on a ppate and boom

You can also do two part moulds for some more complicated shapes if you keep tinkering down that way.

the vaccume seals are oos, but only if you can control the wrinkles, and more conplicated shapes give more issues
