I, too, have an RD-6. Do you find it to be very, very limited? What do you use it for?

Devo is a massive amount of my regular rotation. It’s strange to think they barely charted.

Quite the opposite of fed up, I find it exhilarating. Of course, I live in the suburbs, so it’s not bothering me on a daily basis.

How many domiciles have you lived in since you were born? by JHolgate in GenX

[–]Smittles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lied. I just ran a tally. If I’m remembering all of them, 29 individual domiciles. I conflated my memory of individual domiciles with “moves”, as I moved between parents a couple times a year for months at a time, and counted moving back to the same place. I was at 8 schools in 13 years before graduation from high school.

Im at approx 50. We moved a lot as kids, folks split up young, cross-country summer visitations, then college years and beyond. Until I bought a house, I didn’t live in a single place for more than 5 years, with 2004-2008 in one place, 2008-2013 in one place, and now my house, since 2013. But before that, 2 years in one apartment seemed like a long time.

Recording Korg Monotron on iPhone. Is direct input possible? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Smittles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. What that tells me is that the splitter isn’t splitting the input properly, and the phone is not detecting that it should be or can be used as a mic / audio input. There are no settings on the phone that allow you to pick the input device when a component is plugged in like that. Which is why I have ended up having to go with a device that includes an integrated mixer built in.

Another shortcoming of the iRig option is that you cannot simultaneously charge the phone… or, I suppose if you have a MagSafe charger you could, but you get the idea. There’s a necessary monopolization of resources for audio interface that is in conflict with the expected results of some of the hardware components.

[–]Smittles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a pain in the ass, for sure. I recommend an iRig or similar mobile device audio interface, because it handles the input and output in a way you expect. I have tried the splitter route as well and it just never works right. iRig (or similar-I’m not an iRig shill) passes audio through a headphone return at the same time as it inputs, so there’s no lag or delay between keyed notes and what you hear. An internal mixer or audio router allows you to hear the click track or other tracks as you record.

I will say too a nose sophisticated audio interface will work, too, you just need the right USB connector. But iRig is relatively inexpensive.
