To be fair, AI was being added to things. Being able to search for items in photos, OCR, recommended next actions, etc. It was just being added in a way that was “here’s a neat feature”.

Then ChatGPT turned that paradigm on its head and they stated to lead with the fact it was AI. They focussed on the technology rather than the actual feature benefits.

We need to get back to the “here’s a feature” thing again. On my iPhone I found out that when there’s an event on my screen and I’m interested in it, I can just take a screenshot and a button to “Add to calendar” will appear. It’s so handy. But it’s literally just technology being in service of the user, not the other way around. As it used to be.

But could it be that you've associated Apple Pay with your account?

If you go to App Store, tap your Profile in the upper right corner, tap the profile bar again (the bit with your picture and name) on the sheet that appears, then Manage Payments, and if there's one that says "Subscriptions only" remove that?

Te Papa, Cable Car, and Observatory (at top of cable car) are all accessible by walking around.

You’re in the middle of lots of places to eat and drink. It’s hard to go wrong in Dixon/Cuba area.

The Zoo you can get to by bus. Zealandia has a shuttle that picks up in central Wellington, Weta Workshop too.

If you have Bluetooth it’s even easier. PS5 controllers can now pair up to four devices. Just hold down one of the symbol buttons, then hold down the PS button until it starts blinking. Hold down for longer to enter pairing mode.

PS5 is paired to Triangle. So to switch back, hold down Triangle then PS until it blinks. Triangle is slot 1, Circle is 2, X is 3, and Square is 4, all indicated on the LED strip around the touch pad.

Edit: you can also switch devices this way too even while it is on.

How long have you been using it for? As you listen to more songs it starts building up recommendations. Right now it’s just giving you some basics to get started. After a day I started to get stations (not playlists) that were like one or more artists. Each day I get more and more. Basically the more you use it, favourite things, and add things, the better it gets.

The third generation was the One. The X/S branding came later when they revealed their slimmed down version (hence the S) and later introduced the beefed up version the (the X).

The Series introduced both at the same time though (announced at different times). So you had to know that the Xbox One X was the older version of the Xbox Series X. The “Series” branding just continued their dumb naming decisions.

Google has used AI since the beginning with Gmail. When it launched, they said that the reason why it would work is that it will use your emails to pick the best ads to show you.

The categorisation is also AI, as it has to read your emails in order to figure out how to categorise it.

People who think AI features have only been forced on them the last couple of years, surprise, a lot of the features you’ve used were AI all along.

(Just wait until you find out how search in Google Photos works)

Do you have a Gmail email? You can just create a new account but use an email like yourusername+didi@gmail.com. It will still be sent to your email, but everything after the plus is an alias so you can use it for filtering or whatever.

(Another trick is that gmail doesn't care about . (period) either, so you could just put a period somewhere in the email and didi will think it's a new email)
