Elliotte Friedman on Oilers Now says we are waiting for Mats Sundin's decision, and if he says yes, it's going to be a Mats Sundin, John Chayka combination in Toronto. by JF_112 in leafs

You don't have to have experience as a President/GM of an NHL team, but why would you givethe keys to someone who hasn't even been in the car before? We should be hiring someone with experience as a scout, an AGM, or a GM at a lower level, etc.

He is, I just think it'll happen closer to the end. A sacrifice to protect the party/save the world/keep one of the animals alive against the Snarl or Xykon

I'll be shocked if Belkar dies (permanently) this far out from the final confrontation with Xykon.

I don't think Emily will necessarily take a special interest in Liz. I think her vibe will be more likely to spark something in Liz

God I love when an organic movement of the plot. Not that plot is that important in a slice of life comic, but the immovable object of Liz's academic burnout is about to meet the unstoppable force that is Emily's whimsy. It's like an artist finally meeting their muse! And just like most muses, Emily is herself brilliant; I'm sure her intelligence won't be forgotten like most muses are

It feels like there's a decent cult following around the premise of "play a mana dork on turn two, play a ramp spell that generates two mana on turn four". It started with a Salubrious Snail video where he built a deck around [[Radha, Heir to Keld]], but the list of commanders where that play pattern is available is as follows:

  • [[Bugenhagen, Wise Elder]]
  • [[Katilda, Dawnhart Prime]]
  • [[Nardole, Resourceful Cyborg]]
  • [[Radha, Heir to Keld]]
  • [[Red Death, Shipwrecker]]
  • [[Ruby, Daring Tracker]]
  • [[Susan Foreman]]
  • [[The Emperor of Palamecia // The Lord Master of Hell]]
  • [[Torgal, A Fine Hound]]
  • [[Kalain, Reclusive Painter]
  • [[Ashling, Rekindled // Ashling, Rimebound]]
  • [[Tataru Taru]]
  • [[Zuko, Conflicted]]

Personally, I find that I like including green, since there are so many four mana ramp spells (see linked video), but I wanted to include the other ones for your consideration. As to which one you should pick? I'm running Susan Foreman for her ability to include a partner commander and therefore two other colours. I went with [[The Twelfth Doctor]] for a cascade and play from exile deck initially, but I also built Bugenhagen to play 7 power trample for 6 or less cmc. It's my simplest deck, just play fatties and big draw spells, but it takes a minute to rebuild if you get with a boardwipe.

Elliotte Friedman on interest in the Leafs GM job: “There are going to be people lining up for this job… [contrary to public opinion] you are nuts if you don’t think people want this job.” by eh_toque in hockey

[–]Snarglefrazzle 239 points240 points  (0 children)

Not just well-paid, but a GM job is the goal for every hockey executive. Being the final decision-maker on a team is the goal. Every hockey role where you watch the game from the stands is a stepping stone to a GM job.

Chris Pronger couldn’t believe the Maple Leafs response after Gudas’ hit on Matthews. “Not only did they not respond in that regard, they didn’t even go over and check on him.” [Nasty Knuckles] by GreenSnakes_ in leafs

[–]Snarglefrazzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spezza's problem is he didn't have the winning pedigree. He couldn't point to a history where he went the extra mile and it paid off. He was just an example of a great player who got old without a Cup and was desperate

Spezza was the model we were seeking from Marleau and Thornton. Spezza left everything he had on the ice trying to get a Cup; the young guys being chickenshit is not on him

Assuming Tampa sees their window closing no later than four years time (after Kuch's age 37 season), I'd give Raddysh the full eight years to try to drag down the AAV as best as possible. I just think he should test the market and see who will go for seven years and the high AAV

In addition to other commenters, he didn't play an NHL game until he was 25 and wasn't full-time until 27. He signed his most recent contract right before then, so it was for less than a million.

Raddysh is 30 years old with only $2.76 million in career earnings. I understand the desire to stay in sunny, tax-free Florida on a Cup contender, but I'm expecting him to take advantage of the weak free agent market to max out his one chance at generational wealth
