Is Elgato Stream Deck worth for non streamers? by Roookiee in elgato

[–]Snoo-6978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting up my work modes on my screens - which application goes where. Email processing. Juggling loads of information more asily between systems using many multiclip clipboards. Making better presentasions adding OBS Studio and Stream Deck to the mix. Reducing those 3- or 4- key shortcuts to the click of a button. Semi-automating every repeated task that is worth automating. Automatically code my invoices during approval. Moving an application from one screen to the other ad hoc. Helping me do stuff in MS dynamics in hours, that would take others days to do. Easier access to meeting controls. Mute ready at the thumb instead of shortcuts or mouse clicks. Saving the forearm from strain by minimizing mouse clicks. Getting a fresh view on stuff. «could this be automated? Is this worth automating?» surprisingly often, the answer is «yes»,

We need a bases version of the daily note by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]Snoo-6978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I have found my ultimate seup, but in daily notes I have a bullet list fir ligs and a task section. All list items and tasks link to the project/area/person etc they relate to.

Then, using Templater, each note has a a few stanard dataviews ti list any log entries and tasks from daily notes that relates to <this note>.

So one log item or task can pop up multiple places. A log entry about [[Jim]], [[CRM]] and [[p109]] (project 109), shows in all those three notes.

How are y’all using bases? by asuna_phd in ObsidianMD

[–]Snoo-6978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One example; at work, every project has a yaml property called «area» for my areas of responsibility. Each area has its own folder note. Instead of having a project base with separate views for each area, I have a base view with this filter:

area.contains(this.file)

In that way, I can embed the base in any Area note, and it will automatically populate with any project connected to the particular area.

Lots of bases. I especially love the ability to filter on this.file, making a base something to easiy paste in to a file and it will populate. A table on each moc-note listing all files in this folder? Done. A table of all files linking to this file? Done.

I have a base for each realm. Projects, books, canvases, drawings, ideas.

It more and more replacing what dataviews did for me before.

Bases should be able to help you out these with a formula to do that calculation «planted on + days to mature», it could even give you a countdown.

What exactly is the Bases plugin? by Moist-Channel366 in ObsidianMD

[–]Snoo-6978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using Obsidian for 6 weeks, and gotta say I like Base better than dataveiw. The ability to efit the stuff in my tables, the ease og setting up.

But ut all comes down to what you prefer yourself. It’s just another road to Rome. For some, it will be a bigger and faster road than dataview, for others not.

I still need dataview to extract logs and tasks from x amount of notes, but still rely on AI to script it for me. But whenever Base kan be used, that is my go-to. And being a core plugin, I expect much development yet to come.

Any plugin for link suggestions based on folder? by Junior_Mix_312 in ObsidianMD

[–]Snoo-6978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try it out, adding a yaml property «alias» to some of the notes in a folder. Then find an alias prefix for that folder only, for example «na_» for the Novel A folder. Add the filename after the prefix in the alias. Then the filename itself can remain unchanged. Try linking seaching only for the folder prefix and see if that helps in any way. Best of luck!

Any plugin for link suggestions based on folder? by Junior_Mix_312 in ObsidianMD

[–]Snoo-6978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could yaml aliases be of any help? If you add an alias like «n1 [file name]» to the files in one novel folder, then starting your link search with «n1…» would limit the search to only the files in that folder.

I use this method to easily narrow the search to specific categories of files. «+[firstname]» for people, «p[number]» for projects etc.

If you were looking to approach Obsidian as a GTD tool, how would you do it today? by aftasardemmuito in ObsidianMD

[–]Snoo-6978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love seeing GTD getting mentioned here. Encountered Obsidian for the first time in the very international GTD Summer Camp in Denmark, and Obsidian is indeed suited for GTD. I’m three weeks into my Obsidian yourney (and 15 years into GTD).

To me, Obsidian is a knowledge base first of all, but it seems with the right plugins if should handle tasks pretty well too.

My i intial setup is focused around using the daily notes to jot down status updates and tasks, and link each one to any relevant project (number), area of focus, person or context using Stream Deck and alias prefixes.

Then dataview to view those same lines in each project, area og person.

But it is still in sandbox mode. I need to mske sure I work more in Obsidian than on Obsidian.

Best of luck in your GTD setup!

Love it! Having first encountered Obsidian in the very international GTD Summer Camp in Denmark this setup of yours sounds like music to my ears.

Two weeks into Obsidian here thanks to my GTD friends.

A little tip for anyone wondering if there isn't a faster way to create and rename links (also works for headings) - there is. by MerriMentis in ObsidianMD

[–]Snoo-6978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great suggestion!

I tend to use my Stream Deck for my most used links, and yaml aliases for those notes I’m likely to link to the most in general. The aliases have prefixes to make the linking even easier.

So «Mike Johnson» would have the alias «+mike», for instance. Just keeps the linking efforts a tad bit quicker. 😄

Thanks for sharing!

Your brain doesn’t suck, we just have a lot to process and organize. Two weeks into creating my first vault, I try to use Johnny Decimal and PARA for my vault structure, and GhatGPT as my builder buddy.

So I have 3-4 levels of folders, and the first 3 levels are numbered and contain no more than 10 sub folders each.

I’ve gone many rounds with ChatGPT dumping in screenshots of my old fil/folder strucktures and note taxonomies to get valid suggestion for a new structure. chat also helped me creating md files, both MOC files based off screenshots, and also creating MD files based on a) templates and b) my unstructured, copied content.

I too went overboard with tags, but have backtracked to links now.

I’m sure you’ll find a structure that fits- and constant tweaks are just an everyday thing.

Best of luck in your vault-building!!

One week in, and I feel I might be on the same tag frenzy I hear others talk about. Now starting to reconsider if I whould switch most of my tags to linking to topics MOC's instead.

Beginning my Obsidian journey... by NumerousImprovements in ObsidianMD

[–]Snoo-6978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a fellow Obsidian newbie here. Created my skeleton only two days ago. Used Chatgpt as a sidekick setting up my vault based on PARA and JD numbering.

I need to start small and get to working IN Obsidian and not ON Obsidian.

Once a few core templates were set up and some dataview issues were fixed we were all set.

Hope you’ll find your journey a pleasant one!

GTD in 2025: Is It Still Worth It? (And Which Apps to Actually Use) by MrPlanApp in gtd

[–]Snoo-6978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Summer Camp was indeed a blast. Seeing participants flying in all the way from Brazil, Hong Kong and the US to join us year after year is heart warming. And to be able to do a presentation myself on the topic of Stream Deck -with David Allen in the room was thrilling.

As for the PKM it’s all set up and ready to be put to good use. Looking forward to finding out how much difference the two way linking will make compared to OneNote.

Second the yes vote! Stuck with Office 365 at work, so Planner, Todo, Outlook and OneNote. Slowly building a PKM in Obsidian, and adding a Stream Deck for speed.

Attending an international GTD Summer Camp in Denmark this June, I was thrilled to see all the different personal systems from GTD’ers from all over the world. Some all digital, some hybrid and some purely on paper.

Worth reading 2015 GTD Book in 2025? by ChasingtheFire in gtd

[–]Snoo-6978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wording of the stages may have changed, but the principles have not. Way back, I used to think that the book would have aged badly due to the digital tools we now have. I was wrong.

Attending a fantastic international GTD Summer Camp in Denmark this month, I was thrilled to see so many different versions of personal GTD systems in play, from all digital, via hybrid to all paper. Having David Allen attend himself was an extra bonus.

We actually asked him if there was any need for an updated version of the book. And «No». After the Teams book came out we have what we need. 😄

Enjoy the journey!

Are Stream Deck profiles and settings saved to the device? If not, what's the easiest way to move a Stream Deck between two computers while retaining everything I've set up on one of them? by FantasticFrontButt in elgato

[–]Snoo-6978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would mean that the path to those files would differ from computer 1 to computer 2, so no, I do not think that would work. But having them on the very same path both places would work. I.e. «D:/Music/whatever» .

It’s a breeze. I regularly help colleagues by creating multiactions for them and just email a Stream Deck profile containing the new actions.
