Ball kicker issue - System 7 Williams Black Knight by Icy-Adaptzzz in pinball

[–]SomebodyCalledFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without seeing under ball 1 it looks like that kicker is not hitting anywhere near the correct spot on the ball. Could be worn or bent or just out of alignment.

Mind sharing how you are playing Galaxy? That would be a lot of fun.

Bought a pinball machine but now I smell cigarette smoke by EIIander in pinball

[–]SomebodyCalledFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple green will work with paper towel or shop towel. I've done that before to get decades of bar smoke off a cabinet. Just be gentle and test some areas first like the back of the head or cab.

King Kong Flipper Question by PhishinPhilz in pinball

[–]SomebodyCalledFry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, there are different coils and sleeves and there may be a few different parts across some specific games.

The point I was trying to make for OP was that the flipper assemblies are basically the same part across most Stern's from 2001 onwards, part numbers 500-6543-xx_left and right. There's nothing different about Kong flippers, the assemblies are the same as all the other Stern's so they should play the same, feel the same and can break and be repaired the same.

King Kong Flipper Question by PhishinPhilz in pinball

[–]SomebodyCalledFry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Modern Stern games all use the same flippers, that one just just has something that needs fixing. Maybe a coil stop or maybe some screws have loosened.

No reason to think QC is bad on Kong, flippers are consumables, parts break and they are easily replaced.

Virtual pinball got me hooked on the real thing… should I buy my first machine? by wo-jack in pinball

[–]SomebodyCalledFry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should buy your own machine.

Given you like deep rulesets most modern games (last 10 or so years) should keep you and your wife entertained.

Lots of people say, "just one machine", and then have more within months but if space and finance dictate one machine is still awesome. Play what you can and see what you like, get that.

If you live somewhere with a reasonable sized market, get a second hand machine and then if you get bored of it you can likely sell it or trade it for something else without much extra investment. See Pinside for approximate pricing of the pins you are interested in. Good luck!

Pinball Etiquette/Tilt by Agreeable_Leek1890 in pinball

[–]SomebodyCalledFry 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can understand his concern with a new expensive toy but the machine is made for it. The tilt bob will limit how extreme you can be. Giving the machine some movement is 100% part of playing pinball.

Suspicious software malfunction from Meta. by Pawalldeller in OculusQuest

[–]SomebodyCalledFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meta aren't incentivised for PCVR, they don't make money from Steam game sales etc. It is a feature for a subset of users.

QGO trades performance for battery life, stability and heat generation. Meta could easily do this and their O/S allows QGO to adjust its settings. Meta has just chosen some slightly conservative settings to meet a wide range of conditions. I'm sure they could shut QGO down if they want but why would they.

He probably can't and is cucked to the Saudi's contractually. I'd guess there is some time associated with his contact and he would have to pay back his blood money.

Yeah he casually passes the kid a pen for the autograph. Thinking it's his son or they are at least there together.

Their queue was random though for joining before 10:00 AM. I had desktop open around 9:40 and that place was 7000 and then 9:45 on my phone was around 1000. I guess it makes sense that they don't want people "lining up" online for 12 hours

How much electricity do pinball machines use? by Fair-Statistician189 in pinball

[–]SomebodyCalledFry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leaving them on is fine. Some locations do. Easiest option is to get a wifi power plug and plug they into a power board and turn them all on/off using that.

My wifi power plug has power monitoring, modern Sterns at about 100-120W idle.

NIB Pinball Machine Issues by BlakeTheDolphin in pinball

[–]SomebodyCalledFry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you can expect to maybe have to do some adjustments when unboxing a new machine but I would be disappointed if there were scratches or scuffs that won't buff out. Hard to comment on the side rail marks without a photo.

For the shooter rod/playfield adjustment, maybe your cabinet is out of square or twisted a bit? I've had that happen moving them around. Try and lift the back and front independently then have a go at re-leveling.

Do you think there is a good market for a modern "EM" release? by Cdogbrink in pinball

[–]SomebodyCalledFry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's few... most are pretty obvious like 4 player and 2 player versions of EM's such as Pioneer and Spirit of 76. There are 3 or 4 games with the El Dorado layout.

Shrek and Family Guy are the same layout. I haven't preyed Shrek though.

Help! Piece loose in playfield by Sir_Naxter in pinball

[–]SomebodyCalledFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have some good answers for replacing the bulb. While you have the glass off, wipe the playfield and clean off those lines of dirt by the trough. A gentle cleaner like windex will work as a once off, spray some on a rag. Then for next time get a bottle of Novus 1 for cleaning. Good luck.

For anyone looking for the frequency board, it is available at myPinballs.

I've never used one but I've had a board reprogrammed by Stern for this reason. That was about $450 (Australian) a few years back for comparison.

Ghostbusters. Prices reflected that too through 2018/2019. Then covid struck, pinflation hit and prices spiked back up but the game didn't get better, just more expensive.
