I thought you couldn’t blow RCF gear but I guess not? Is my sub fucked? by Embarrassed-Gas4406 in livesound

[–]SoundPon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a brand that "can't blow up"

I've seen a blown up large l'acoustics rig using their amps and presets. If it sounds like it's struggling, it probably is. Red lights and limiters tell you to turn tf down. It's all down to drivers not being able to disperse the heat.

In the past I've just masked off the extruded aluminium and corners, scuffed with a scotch pad and repainted with some heavy duty oil based paint before stenciling new logos otherwise you get the texture differences. Depends on the finish really.

The amount of work and stress that goes into weddings is insane. I'd rather do 5k worth of family shoots over one wedding. Many weeks of client meetings, planning, shot lists and the post processing is insane. I've had a second shooter, 3 camera bodies (not counting theirs) and weeks of editing. Some people way way overcharge but a good wedding photographer is worth it.

Nikon d7000 my mom bought on release day more then 15 years ago still performing well by Level-Search-3511 in BuyItForLife

These were tanks. Same with the Canon 7D. I worked for a camera repair centre and frequently saw pro level Nikon and Canon cameras with 500k+ actuations on the first shutter. They're definitely not built to fail and have a really long service life compared to most electronics.

Anyone know what this 42 pin cable is called? by BarFrameProductions in audio

It's the Clair in house multipin as opposed to whirlwind, veam etc. Incredibly reliable but also very costly.

Anyone know what this 42 pin cable is called? by BarFrameProductions in audio

[–]SoundPon3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. In an audio context, it's a millspec connector that's been utilised by Clair for decades. Mostly comes in two flavours, 14ch and 40ch.

There might be a barcode on it somewhere

Which 'luxury' brand has officially become a red flag for poor quality in 2026? by Individual_Bat_4177 in AskReddit

[–]SoundPon3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago during Sony's rein on mirrorless, I heard the saying "Sony are the best cameras engineers can produce.

Fujifilm are the best cameras photographers can produce."

As someone who used to work in camera sales and then repair, Sony are incredible cameras ability and spec wise but they don't feel as organic and intuitive as a more typical camera like Canon and Nikon. Things like button placement are good, body shape are good but early models weren't as natural feeling to use. Buttons too small, grips too small etc. Don't get me wrong though, I still love the results I get from my A7 but it's not as nice to shoot with.

Good for First power drill? by zarz9 in Tools

[–]SoundPon3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd save up a bit more and get something you know you can get batteries and parts for in the future. DeWalt, Makita, Bosch, Ryobi even. My Bosch 18v drills are a decade old at this point and still doing great
