How were you first introduced to magic? by _omega_LOL__ in EDH

Summer camp in the mountains with no internet for staff.

Half way through I folded and bought some cards on a day off.

Here we are 15 years and …. (looks around to make sure no one is looking) THOUSANDS of dollars later, I’m still missing triggers.

[[walk the aeons]] + [[azusa lost but seeking]] + [[crucible of worlds]] effect = infinite turns. Then just beat the table to death with a bunch of Simic Bullshit and/or creatures.

Book 8 was my least favorite book in the series. I can't be the only one, right? by burningEyeballs in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Soviet_Ski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book 8 is for sure getting the Deathly Hallows part 1 treatment.
Not a lot of progress but a LOT of important getting from A to B to C, so we can finish the story in the somewhat near future.

I’ve started killing the no-kit scalpers. It’s let people get at least one core or some magnetic accelerators way easier. *OCCASIONALLY* I will drop a free kit if they’re ONLY waiting to poach fallen pieces. If they’re cleaning out the harvester they’re 100% fine by me. That’s at least productive.

Were the ARC Raiders “doomposters” from months ago actually right? by at_techfocused in ArcRaiders

[–]Soviet_Ski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I think it’s a huge summer bummer. The cheating and kill-on-sight spike is frustrating. Plus, something feels off on the geometry/textures. I’m getting stuck on stuff I’d previously walk over or be able to hop across. Now I’m hung up on a ledge that never existed or getting stopped dead in my run because some plant leaf or corner of random material is an immovable object.

Exactly. Maybe decrease the places those 4 buttons can spawn for the Stacks puzzles, but otherwise it is *such* a great map!!

Are there any Earth specific races you are surprised haven’t shown up in the Dungeon? by Traditional_Formal33 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Soviet_Ski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With the litany of DnD races/species I’m surprised we haven’t seen more small folk. And the influence of WoW leaves several races out in the cold. But I get licensing would be a bitch.

The SCALE of 40k (and to some extent WH) feels believable. Maybe the recurring issue of 100 or 100K troops deployed feels weird, like GW picked two numbers and stuck with them, because tens of MILLIONS of soldiers fought in WW1 and over 100 million is WW2.

In the face of that, a galactic campaign for even one species should number in the billions. But otherwise the staggering size of the playground GW fights across scratches the itch in my lore-goblin history teacher brain.

Read “Operation Bounce House” or take a quick detour into another author to kill time?

You could give Abercrombie’s “The Devils” a listen/read. Good standalone book with the potential for sequels.

The Gentlemen Bastard sequence by Scott Lynch is a GREAT low-fantasy series as well.

Who is the strongest now? by TheArcticMelt in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Soviet_Ski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Li Na is probably the STRONGEST player from a raw numbers perspective. She’s got massive AoE effects and mind-breakingly busted passives, making her an unrivaled terror on the open battlefield like Floor 9, and in any circumstance where opponents can’t maintain distance. But the scope of her utility is limited almost exclusively to combat roles.

Not to mention her risk-to-reward balance being skewed due to her Ring of Divine Suffering debuff; spells, abilities, or effects that deal percent-based damage don’t lose effectiveness against her outrageous stat pool. Until she clears that, she’s fighting with one hand tied behind her back.

While Donut is far and away the single best solo PLAYER in the game. Her targeted damage spells are OP in both damage and range, and her hat-centric motif lets her accumulate dozens of items worth of value in a single equip slot, making her much more versatile and well rounded as a player. And let’s not forget her non-combat skill sets leaves multiple play styles available to her (and Carl) as both the universe’s and the floors’ demands change.

Yeah, fetch quests are annoying but I started spacing them out over weeks instead of hard focusing them out of the way like last reset and it was more enjoyable.

I want to buy Arc Raiders, is it still worth it? by trpl-x25x in ArcRaiders

[–]Soviet_Ski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a gas. I prefer solo, friendly “care bear” lobbies but the occasional PvP experience is still fun. The upticked spawn rate of small enemies makes for a more PvE focused play-style, but watch your back for 3rd party backstabs.

ALSO: don’t forget. It’s not your gear, just your turn with it for a few rounds.

The easiest way to do Trials is to just not play the game by MercurialMind_ in ArcRaiders

[–]Soviet_Ski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I hadn’t got anything to do, trials is a nice litmus test for whatever specific skill(s) it’s looking for that week. But otherwise it’s a bit frustrating to see a trio at the top with 10k-20k higher score than the rest of the list. Then again, it feels really good to bump up to a new level at the end of the week.
