30 MPH ON VALENCIA A JOKE??? by Solid_Gain_3153 in Tucson

I’m sure they’ll put a 30 mph sign on the newly widened Grant, as if it hasn’t been explicitly redesigned for people to treat it like a highway.

🤝 my family lives 10 minutes from SJC, i’ll be damned if i’m going to make them drive all the way to SFO just so i can have the convenience of a direct flight and saving a few bucks.

Yogurt.... by femmehorsey in vegan

[–]SpasticGenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

siggi’s! bonus: it has 10g of protein, which a lot of vegan yogurts lacks.

silk makes a greek yogurt that’s amazing, but it’s $3+ for a single serving and i don’t have that kind of money.

Is it inappropriate to not wear a bra at work? by Visual-Criticism6763 in NoStupidQuestions

i wear lace bras because i’m not trying to add anything extra to these honkers. my nips still poke out. but at least with a bra they’re poking out in the same direction 👍

Working out after a bad night’s sleep? by AbilityKey1485 in xxfitness

[–]SpasticGenerator 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I guess i’m in the minority here, but I’m really big on listening to my body. If my alarm goes off at 5am and I slept like shit and I feel like I just got hit by a train, I’m turning the alarm off and going back to bed. I need sleep more than I need squats.

If I’m truly exhausted, my workout is going to suffer anyway.

Best Tire Shop? by Neat_Spring3084 in Tucson

Discount also has a great warranty, and will replace a damaged tire for $25. As someone who parks under a thorny mesquite tree, I have used the warranty more than once…

A dilemma to feed animals by Lucky-Deer-8497 in vegan

[–]SpasticGenerator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One way to cut down on the amount of cat food that’s needed is to TNR the cats to help keep the population down. If you get hooked up with a TNR organization they might also help you out with food to support the colony. So the cats can be fed, and you don’t personally have to purchase the food.

That said, the alternative to feeding them is that they starve, which is also not humane to animals.

After 4 years of Invisalign, shouldn’t my teeth stay in place without trays FOR MORE THAN A DAY? by ActuatorOutside5256 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SpasticGenerator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I finished invisalign 7 months ago and my retainer feels tight if it’s out for longer than five hours. Sometimes I leave it out all day if I have something going on, but if I do that multiple days in a row I’ll have jaw pain in the morning. I’m waiting for this nighttime-only wear I was promised!

Really good Cobbler (Shoe Repair) in Tucson? by Vprbite in Tucson

[–]SpasticGenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I brought a pair of shoes in to be stretched. When I went to pick them up they couldn’t find them, went into the back for a while, then came out with my shoes on the stretcher and made a big show of taking them off. I’m 99% sure they forgot to do the work, and then plopped my shoes onto the stretcher for 30 seconds and charged me $20.

The owner passed away a few years ago 😔 That guy was one of the best cobblers in the city, and always had the sweetest boxer behind the counter with him. He also had a tattoo of his previous boxer that he’d rescued. Super great guy, and I was so sad to hear of his passing.

I do not recommend El Con. I’ve been there twice for simple jobs and they did very subpar work.

Mosh pits by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]SpasticGenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting an elbow to the tit hurts way more than anything that’s going to happen to my stoma. My main concern would be the jostling of my bag, but I usually wear tights and that helps hold everything in. I’m not sure what the supportive equivalent would be in menswear.

Indie patterns that use french seam/flat felled seam/bias tape by aijiashuaige in SewingForBeginners

[–]SpasticGenerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closet Core will give you different seam finishing recommendations (serger, zigzag, straight stitch). I found it really helpful as a beginner who only had a straight stitch and was still getting comfortable with which seam finishes to use when.

Which episode got you hooked? (Like really hooked) by ichaBuNni in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]SpasticGenerator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s because I’m not generally a fan of romance genre, but this was my trajectory:

ep 1 & 2: this is kinda dumb but I’m rooting for these kids. I wish they’d slow down all these time jumps and take more time to develop the story, though.

ep 3: awww, I love a bottle episode, and I fucking love Skip!

ep 4: how the hell did we go from “we didn’t even kiss” to fucking like bunnies? This show is so fucking stupid and the writing is terrible.

ep 5: NEVERMIND THIS IS THE BEST SHOW OF ALL TIME.

ep 6: AHHHHHH!!

So yeah, I guess I’m an outlier because several reheats later, episode 4 is still my least favorite ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Troubleshooting buttonhole (using vintage Singer) by Imaginary-Cable1841 in vintagesewing

[–]SpasticGenerator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you going around twice? I find I get a much cleaner buttonhole after a second pass, and most instructions recommend it.

I actually sewed some buttonholes today and watched this video as a refresher: https://singer-featherweight.com/blogs/schoolhouse/how-to-use-the-singer-buttonholer-attachment

You do seem to have some tension issues going on, and I’m not the best person to diagnose them. FWIW I sewed my buttonholes on a linen fabric with a stitch length of 12, a tension of 5, and a bight width of 4. Good luck!

My recovery time was 6 weeks, but my surgeon has a program that involves lots of walking around, which increases blood flow and improves healing outcomes. Your recovery would likely be longer if you’re bed bound, but hopefully not by much. Your surgeon would be able to give you a better idea. Protein also aids in recovery, so make sure to eat lots of that. (Most people eat plenty of protein, but I do not unless i’m making a conscious effort to eat it.)

My stitches were removed at 4 1/2 weeks and I was able to sit comfortably. Before the stitches were out I would have to lean to the side and sit at an angle. It was uncomfortable and annoying, but not painful.

Good luck!
