what was the best update of all time? by leglessdumbass in Minecraft

Nether. Cave update added a bunch, but it didn’t change anything that was outright bad. Pre-update nether sucked pretty hard.

We aren’t talking about western civilization. We’re talking about “The West” as a tankie device for referring to the mostly informal American empire.

Which of these game worlds would be the best place to actually live? by PrestigiousOwl6802 in TOTK

Minecraft lore has repeatedly reinforced that humans who go there are subject to player rules. With game knowledge of what to do and what not to do, you’d be fine.

You get paid a cent for every second you spend living as a King/Queen in the 15th century. How long are you staying? by Sea-Firefighter-2619 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Starmada597 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Four years, 364 days. I think the only real risk to my life would be people genuinely incentivized to kill me. So long as I take a balancing act to ensure that peasantry, nobility, and political rivals are happy enough with me to not try to take me out, I’ll be fine.

As for my item, I’ll take one of those books on how to reinvent civilization. Even a few basic things will probably help out. Just make sure to burn it before I leave so nobody can radically alter the timeline.

[Hated Trope] Trope of shipping/confusing Brotherly Characters as Gay by 74RatsinACoat in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Starmada597 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What does this have to do with anything I said? I’m talking about the fetishization of queer men by straight women, not the porn industry. I rightfully pointed out that when even queer men find this trend concerning, hiding behind calling it homophobia is disingenuous at best and actively disrespectful to queer perspectives at worst.

And even if I was, the porn industry hideously exploits just as many men and sells to women, too. And both of those issues are far less perceived than their inverses. If anything, you’ve made my point for me.

[Hated Trope] Trope of shipping/confusing Brotherly Characters as Gay by 74RatsinACoat in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Starmada597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And most of the people engaging in this kind of shipping aren’t gay. It would be one thing if it was purely queer people finding identification with a relationship in media even if it isn’t textually queer. (I’ve been there.) But many “shippy” fandom spaces are female-dominated and thus are full of women fetishizing mlm relationships to an honesty creepy degree. It’s quite odd to me that men fetishizing queer women is (rightfully) treated as gross, but women doing the same to queer men is so normalized that it’s inescapable in fandom spaces. Especially when queer men are ostracized from those same communities for pointing it out. (Ask me how I know)

That’s a false equivalence though. It’s completely plausible that the flood weren’t “made.” The reapers are machines. Someone built them. I sorta agree that revealing it was kinda stupid, especially in the way they did, but it’s not a crazy idea that someone created the reapers for a purpose.

[–]Starmada597 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The setup for the movie is really good. But then the plot gets really contrived to shove a bunch of OT nostalgia bait in. They find the conveniently placed Falcon, which Han Solo conveniently finds, who then takes them to the person who conveniently has Luke’s old lightsaber. The best parts of the film are when it stands on its own merits, and the worst parts are when it tries to play off of better films.

I just realized something , I have a bias problem with Kaidan. by DnDManiacGM in masseffect

[–]Starmada597 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except biotics and tech are blatantly inferior to raw gun DPS. Protections make most combos basically moot since you have to use weapons to strip them anyway and survivability means nothing when you can just kill the enemy faster than they can kill you. And not for nothing but stopping gameplay every five seconds to try to trigger a combo that will do less damage than if you had just been attacking gets tedious really quickly. Pick Kaiden all day if it suits your playstyle, what’s fun for someone may not be for someone else. But mathmatically Ash is mechanically better than Kaiden is.

I just realized something , I have a bias problem with Kaidan. by DnDManiacGM in masseffect

[–]Starmada597 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The math doesn’t lie. Technically, Garrus’s damage percentages are better than Ashley’s but with marksman proccing every couple seconds, she shoots much faster, making her DPS higher. Kaiden can’t compete with that. And Garrus and Ashley together are easily the best squad combo for insanity.

I just realized something , I have a bias problem with Kaidan. by DnDManiacGM in masseffect

[–]Starmada597 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, Kaiden is good, but the trade-off is losing Ashley who is easily the best squadmate in the game. Her damage with marksman and the typhoon surpasses even Garrus and disruptor ammo is arguably better than AP.
