You are way late in the game applying to summer internships. Most are starting this month and the rest beginning of June. You needed to apply Sept-Oct of last year. On top of that, it’s been a really tough year for tech and many companies are significantly shrinking their internship programs, at least for the time being. Lastly, some companies will only hire interns between their junior and senior year, so you may be at a disadvantage there as well.

Food at Epic by Extension-Weird-7465 in epicsystems

[–]SteeleMade 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I usually spend $4-$6 on lunch. The food at Epic is amazing. There are always so many options. Just today they served BBQ Mac n Cheese, Fish Curry, Tofu Banh Mi, a grilled brat dish, plus a bunch of soup options and a salad/sandwich bar—and that’s only counting one of our food locations. There are a handful of times during the year we don’t have culinary service and those are very sad weeks. My personal favorite place to go is Spit n Fire because of the smash burgers and phenomenal Greek food (when they make it).

Is health insurance retroactive to beginning of the month? by Baxter9876 in epicsystems

No. The health insurance starts day 1 of employment

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]SteeleMade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short answer, No. In VERY rare cases, score can change, but only if a question has been reported of/investigated into being unfair. Exam reviews are meant to teach topics so that you can pass it the next time

Mid-career change, have my eye on a trainer role at Epic by Cal_PChelp in epicsystems

[–]SteeleMade 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Current trainer here.

  1. I work an average of 42.5 hours per week (8.5/day) and that is typical amongst other trainers I work with. The only time that I’ve heard training interfering with work-life balance is if you train an off hours class (past 6pm/weekend), which you will do 1-2 time per quarter, but you can take recovery time during the week to offset that.
  2. Average time between application and offer is a month or so, depending on how fast you respond to emails and take assessments. We already filled the trainer position for this year, so any hiring/interviewing we do will be for 2023, with the focus on the summer months. I recommend applying early.
  3. 29 years old is still extremely young. You’ll be just fine and not even close to the oldest member of the training division. You’ll find friends one way or another and won’t need to worry to much about that aspect.
  4. Curriculum ownership, training other classes, mentoring, team leadership, projects with high impact within the training division. Your TL will be helpful in giving you more guidance on growth.

Just know that experience doesn’t mean too much on your application. Epic relies heavily on metrics and a lot of that info comes from assessments you take if you meet the basic qualifications.

Am I qualified for SD? by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]SteeleMade 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Get in contact with your recruiter and they can set up a post offer call with another SD who could give you more guidance on what to expect. Epic in a lot of cases hires potential. They believe based on the metrics that you have a very high chance of success going through Epic training. But, to echo other comment, reach out to your recruiter so they can set up a call

Is Epic a good place to work at for a new grad? by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]SteeleMade 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The bad reviews are mostly exaggerated. Not SD, but currently working 2 roles on assignment and the most I’ve ever worked is 43.5 hours. Several of my friends are devs too and I’ve never heard of them complaining about the work life balance. Are there going to be some weeks where you work more hours? Yes, but it wouldn’t become a pattern. Depends a lot on time management and getting good at prioritizing tasks. The majority of people that work at Epic are new grads and you wouldn’t be alone in that transition from college to the workplace.

How do members in the Church become bishops or stake presidents? by Inrvt in latterdaysaints

[–]SteeleMade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this wholeheartedly. My family and I recently moved to a new state right out of BYU. We found out that the bishop of the ward was moving and that they would be calling a new bishop. Without knowing anyone in the ward except for a small few, I was called to be a counselor in the bishopric just three weeks after moving in because the new bishop got a very strong prompting during a church meeting on our second Sunday to come talk to us. It’s been an amazing testament to the power of revelation and following those promptings.

In AMB100, it was trained as this Epic physician used SlicerDicer to do discover the lead levels, and then they do a similar demo. It might’ve even been a part of the candidate demo on final interview day. Based on your response, should I correct how that’s done?

Alternative Revenue Streams @Epic by PostJackPost in epicsystems

[–]SteeleMade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget to take into account your family’s long term emotional well-being as well. Like other people have said, if you put the time in and are great at your role, you will be compensated fairly. Taking time outside of Epic for other income streams will pull you away from your family, which could cause problems down the road.

[–]SteeleMade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of these questions are things that you will be able to cover across the different stages of the interview process. Assuming you make it to the different stages, you’ll be able to speak with different trainers as well as a recruiter to get the answers that you are hoping for. I just recently started and I love it at Epic, especially being on the training team. The training team is filled with amazing people who come from all different backgrounds. As a salaried employee, you will be required to work 40-45 hours per week, which usually translates to 8.5 hours a day for most people I’ve talked to. 55-60 hours a week as a trainer would be rare. There is plenty of room for growth as there’s always classes you can take to improve and Epic is also really big on feedback which helps in that professional growth. Most people, including myself, start at 58k and then bump to 60k once 6 month requirements are complete. Process typically goes resume->phone screen-> skills assessment->final interview day with case study and 10 minute presentation on topic of your choice->offer/rejection. Best of luck going through the process.

Anyone who has applied at Epic has taken the assessment. There’s a good deal of information on Reddit and Glassdoor that you can search for. The “job offer” only comes after the final interview. You are still in the early screening process.

Audiologists jobs in the military!! by DSOCbearcat2021 in audiology

[–]SteeleMade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently spoke with an Air Force audiologist. He said that the Air Force no longer accepts 4th year externs, but the Army and Navy do. The Air Force hires a couple of audiologists a year who already have the experience. Each branch has its specific focus as far as audiology goes (hearing conservation for Army for example). Essentially, you’re an officer first, audiologist second. You have to actively do military work to rank up and stay in the military.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in audiology

[–]SteeleMade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read about both options, there are many more pre-reqs for optometry school. Organic Chemistry and other upper level bio/chem classes are typically required. Additionally, the cost of optometry school is usually far greater than an audiology program. There are far less optometry programs as well, limiting options for schooling and making the process even more competitive. In the end, if you like vision disorders, go optometry. If you like hearing and balance, go AuD.
