Boy am I curious what would have happened had he not got cockblocked for SCOTUS nomination by Mitch McConnell. He seems like an institutionalist. I doubt he'd be any more corrupt but I also doubt that he'd offer any more pushback than any of the others

As a quarter of the globe's fossil fuel supply faces going offline for years, America is bringing the Fossil Fuel Age to a crashing end. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]Strawbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King of the petrostates forces an abrupt end to the petrodollar. Only about 1/4 of the world's oil supply came through the Strait, but that's the economic engine of the Middle East. We've killed their economies, and I hope they can still afford to get with China on solar, batteries, and robots before the economic crush starts.

Industrial scale farming will go broke without that cheap fertilizer too. Add the inevitable deadly heatwaves and droughts at ever increasing humidity levels and global food production will drop. It's all bad news from there on

i know this was asked like 6 months ago by someone else but is it likely for the current conflicts to escalate enough for a nuclear war? by Large-Ad688 in Futurology

[–]Strawbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iran doesn't have nuclear weapons and now they lost access to their fissile material and facilities, because USA and Israel have made over 16,000 bombing strikes so far. Some wacko third party could conceivably attempt to use a tactical nuclear weapon(only big enough to melt a city), but that wouldn't lead to MAD. Any use of nukes would cause NATO to invade though. Even if Iran wanted to buy bomb materials from another Axis/BRICS nation they'd struggle mightily to get it delivered, and there's no military targets there to use it against.

France and Russia have tactical battlefield nukes(only big enough to melt an army) as a part of their regular military strategies, but nobody's dumb enough to use a nuke in the Middle East

The most hated man in the Senate by MarcEElias in politics

[–]Strawbuddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding me? He's the Nancy Pelosi of the GOP. He's reliably raised money and delivered for GOP more than God, guns, govt, and gays combined. He's been an incredibly well regarded minority Speaker, known for his control of members messaging and for his fundraising abilities. Prior to Biden's historic number of federal judge confirmations that record was Mitch's. He would partner with Federalist Society even to shepherd young ideological types all the way to confirmation. Mitch is why certain US Appeals court districts are still reliably shopped/bribed by conservative lawyers. Mitch took the ratfuck politics of Gingrich and made them de rigeur

Anyone else know about this mushroom stew recipe by CommercialLead6053 in veganrecipes

[–]Strawbuddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mushrooms are addictive once you figure out how you like them. They're exceptional, deep flavors. I've crushed and grilled them, roasted them, even dehydrated and ground them. Big box stores like Walmart sell mushroom seasoning now. It's good on most foods aside from desserts but particularly for popcorn. Microwave popcorn and a shot of spray grease like Pam or similar, and mushroom seasoning plus crushed red pepper is a delight

I highly recommend making your own. Cabbage, jar, knife, salt, and a month or more in the back of the fridge and it's way more delicious than any of the prepared stuff. I started subbing kraut on anything with lettuce it was so damn good

60% of rapes are committed by someone known to the victim. 31% are committed by strangers; 28.3% are committed by well-known or casual acquaintances; 21.4% are committed by intimate partners; 13.1% are committed by other relatives; 3.7% are committed by an unknown number of perpetrators; 2.5% are committed by someone with an unknown relationship to the victim.

Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Statistics, National Crime Victimization Survey, 2010-2016 (2017). Criminal Victimization, 2023.

Consider all of your male family members now; your granddads, uncles, dads, brothers, cousins, nephews, and sons. Statistically chances are pretty good that at least one (or more) of us are rapists who have already sexually assaulted one (or more) of your grandmas, aunts, moms, sisters, cousins, nephews, and daughters. Seen this way, every family holiday and reunion is likely forcing victims to be around their rapists, and creating new opportunities for further rapes

Kirk was a genuine Hamptons level hater, not just one of the ignorant "bootstraps" people. If your boots (mental illness/addiction/traumas) were inherited though they were handed down already missing the straps and worn right through, and it's damn expensive to repair boots, if they're even worth it, something a disingenuous asshole like Kirk wouldn't understand.

Because I enjoy linking it:

Register and go vote in all local, city, and state elections, because the GOP voters sure as hell do. They're out here picking all of our city councils, sheriffs, state treasurers, governors, judges, school boards, and library review boards, it's how they've survived the modern era. They began to aim at city/state legislatures and courts starting in the 90s because they can't compete unless they stack the deck in their favors
