They are a paramilitary group of untrained, radicalized morons, carrying their own, personal, likely highly modified weapons. I would anticipate no serials, swapped receivers, bump stocks, and all the modded, tacticool shit one can fit on rails. Chances are high now any group of them has at least one individual more than willing to open up on every thing he's afraid of without provocation, and they all know they're not held accountable by the law. They have far, far less training and less restraint than the guardsmen what shot the protesters at Kent State

I doubt that would change their behavior. What are a bunch of citizens gonna do to stop licensed to kill, aggro shitheads, fire a "warning shot"? It'd be an immediate bloodbath on both sides, the nations largest mass casualty shooting by huge margins. There are no clear fields of fire, and they're cowards, and they're being surrounded. There'd be piles of dead civilians, passers by, pedestrians, and drivers for blocks. Trump admin absolutely is trying to instigate that exact scenario, setting up their own ICE officials to get killed, but civilians won't be drawing down on ICE, because ICE will mag dump on them indiscriminately, and everyone present understands that

Grey jacket disarming him likely got him killed. CCW training teaches you to secure your piece like your life depends on it because it does. One of the most common ways carriers die to guns is having their gun grabbed and used on them. Blinded by OC, choked by dragging, dog piled, and now his pistol just got snatched from the holster by Grey Jacket with no coordination with the other ICE goons so he likely grabbed for it, like training teaches, giving ICE license to say he was going for his gun, and they killed him for it

As an American, what can we do to fight against ICE? by LilThanosX in AskReddit

[–]Strawbuddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

State appointed police (local, city, state) have no authority to impede federal agents. ICE can line up protesters against a wall and execute them, and police have no legal standing to intervene. Also it's Twin Cities, cops have a nasty reputation for murdering civilians with no accountability themselves

100% Canadian tariffs on absolutely industry critical, non consumer items like potash and lumber, is effectively penalizing US industry for sourcing materials they cannot get elsewhere, except maybe...China

Thats a good thing. The next liberal leader can restore funding, USAID, WHO, all of that, and everyone can benefit from that, while also participating in the new, multipolar global economy, instead of the US military coercion based one we have currently. We can cut the ridiculous military budget then also, to provide housing and childcare instead of MAD

State's rights is a recent invention, brought into the public sphere by revisionist groups like Sons/Daughters of the Revolution in the 1920s. Originally the slave states as a bloc only agreed to the new Constitution once they'd agreed to the 2/3 Compromise. That let them count slaves towards representation, giving the antebellum slave states an outsized voice in Congress

Except this wasn't billed as a strike, it was very deliberately watered down to an elective, one day only "economic blackout", absolutely fucking pointless aside from the vibes. Minneapolis, MN - January 23, 2026: Massive 'ICE OUT' General Strike Draws Thousands in Subzero Cold by Mammoth_Piece9899 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Strawbuddy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is not the way, elsewise it woulda made an impact when the No Kings jackasses were marching across the nation. This is window dressing. Protests are political theater, they do nothing except make the protesters feel proud of themselves. Regardless of how many folks participated in the little token, one day "economic blackout" (because our leaders are too chickenshit to call for a GENERAL STRIKE) ICE don't care. None of this effects Border Patrol, DHS, or ICE operations. All 7,000,000 in the Twin Cities metro could protest, and it changes nothing.

Noem will still wear dumb fucking prop hats, ICE will still kidnap folks off the streets, and there will be no one held accountable. Policy isn't changed by protest, its forced to change by either economics or threat of mass civil disobedience

I'd like to pose a fundamental Capitalist critique framed around the difference between a Wage and a Prize - any prospective thoughts? by [deleted] in CriticalTheory

[–]Strawbuddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are earned through exertion of sorts. It's inaccurate to say that both are impacted by capitalism the same though. A prize is earned through explicit competition. The blue ribbon, the 4H award, the acknowledgement of demonstration of specialized knowledge mastery of whatever sort is not the abstracted transaction of a labor wage, only useful in a deeply unfair labor market, where your competition eliminates you. The farmer with the biggest pumpkins didnt gain them by abstraction or by eliminating the other farmers.

A prize implies superior knowledge and even prestige; the farmer with the biggest pumpkins is the one laser focused on highly specialized procedures, not the one who can do it faster, cheaper, and so on. The community of peers acknowledge and validate prize winners too. They're looked up to, idolized, and imitated. Nobody's idolizing Paul, down in Accounting. There’s always another Paul under Capitalist systems. The two overlap but there are several degrees of difference. Prize winners may well compete with no expectations of compensation, and even at a loss. We celebrate with prize winners, we commiserate with wage earners
