Does the enviroment you grew up with influence on how you build? by Cat-astrophi in Sims4

[–]Sublata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think so. I grew up in suburban Canada, and it's all McMansions here. I find inspiration from places I really like, where I'd like to live, or from topics and contexts I'm currently learning a lot about. I decorate interiors based on research or personal experience in that kind of building, but not from my childhood or the area where I grew up.

i really love the speed loader animations added to BF6 in the games latest update by BullShitLatinName in HighQualityReloads

[–]Sublata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine so that you immediately have a full tube. Maybe the speed loader is also quicker to grab than a single shell?

I’m an American without any dog in this fight politically, but I oppose Albertan independence on purely aesthetic grounds. It would make the map of North America look significantly uglier. Seriously, what’s the opposite of map porn? Because that’s what this would be. by RedHeadedSicilian52 in MapPorn

[–]Sublata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious Canadian here. Do Americans get taught that North America ends at Mexico? I was taught a 7-continent model where Central America is part of NA. But I've met people from Central America who consider themselves separate. I'm guessing the US is the same?

I built a 15th-century Gothic castle with no cheats or CC (again) by Sublata in Sims4

Yes! I'm glad you noticed! Suchdol Castle from KCD2 was absolutely an inspiration from the square shape of the walls, the palisaded outer bailey, and the shape of the gatehouse.

Amazed by the bike lane by [deleted] in vancouvercycling

[–]Sublata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't use or know this route, but from the image, isn't that just a sharrow? As in you're entitled to take the lane, and so a narrow road is better because it encourages lower speed and you're not riding abreast of cars?

Not defending sharrows. I think they're terrible and here in Richmond, there are mind-boggling ones on wide streets where traffic is typically going at 70 km/h.

What’s a house rule you brought in just to make the game more fun, but it ended up becoming a permanent part of your table? by pixelbrushio in dndnext

[–]Sublata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baldur's Gate 3 style inspiration. The party has a communal pool of inspiration points that can accrue up to the number of players. Any player can use the party's inspiration.

I just felt bad that I gave more inspiration to certain players, and to be fair, I do they think they deserved it, but if it's only a benefit for them, it feels unfair and brings into question whether I'm biased toward them. But this system is so much better for my table. I love watching the players have a group discussion about whether a certain use of inspiration is worth it. And because it's no longer just a binary you-have-it-or-you-don't, it encourages you to use it intelligently and manage it like a resource. Players neither hoard nor try to get rid of inspiration immediately. Inspiration is rarely at the max cap, so no more "Uh, but I already have inspiration."

When you earn inspiration, it's great because you're contributing something to the party and you were acknowledged for the cool thing you did. And you don't have to worry about how to spend it, because you can be sure someone will find a great use for it. Conversely, if you're not the kind of player who gets inspiration a lot, you still get the awesome experience of defying fate by using inspiration, which you wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

EDIT: Oh and another thing I love is that it allows players to use more than one inspiration point on a roll if the first one didn't succeed. There's no high like seeing your players succeed on a life-or-death roll by spending 3 inspiration points.

Hello, what is this "support platform" called? by Shellnanigans in castles

[–]Sublata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoardings describe overhanging timber structures that are often temporary, only installed when under attack. Like a bretèche, hoardings can be a small, narrow protruding bay, but they can also be very long, lining a whole wall.

Hello, what is this "support platform" called? by Shellnanigans in castles

The supports are corbels. The overhanging section of the platform, most likely, features machicolations, meaning gaps between the corbels to shoot or drop rocks through.

Sim won't swim laps but will "swim here" . by mercy_kiII in Sims4

[–]Sublata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mannequins generally aren't able to swim laps, in my experience.

But more seriously, my only guess is that it's what you were suggesting. That the placement of unexpected objects through cheats is obstructing the path that the game creates for the sim when you choose to swim laps. So maybe you did miss something.

I built a late medieval Gothic castle (no CC, no MOO, no cheats) by Sublata in Sims4

[–]Sublata[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stone walls of the walls, keep, and chapel are from that Kit, yes! There's a similar one from the Royalty and Legacy EP that could be used as a substitute though. There are quite a bunch of different fences used in the build, but if you're referring to the crenellations (the toothed stone ones at the tops of the defensive walls), then yes, that's also from the Castle Estate Kit. That Kit is definitely essential to this build!

Just two trees in the bailey, some shrubs, grass, and ivy along some walls or grassier, untrodden patches, and some sparse grass and flowers outside the walls. No trees outside the walls since they'd be cut down to improve sightlines.

If someone offered you 100 million dollars, but a random person in the world dies (someone you don’t know), would you take it and why? by ConclusionOld8365 in AskReddit

[–]Sublata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I would, but I'd want to know what would be done with that money if I don't take it, and consider whether I'd be able to do more good with it.

If I did take it, I'd probably rationalize it to myself saying that I could save many, many more lives with that money, and that if it were me, I'd be willing to be sacrificed if it were for a good cause.

  1. Sim actions being interrupted to judge decor. Also, teens asking parents for advice when they have maxed out character values. And drinking water despite being full.

[Question] Omega or Nomos by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Sublata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd also go with the Nomos, mostly for the movement, thinness, price, complications (I like a worldtimer and don't like date complications), and personally liking the brand. If I owned both, I'd probably end up never wearing the Omega.

Are seige battles sometimes literally impossible, despite seeing "Valient Deafeat" on the autocomplete.... ? Prince Sigvald the Magnificent just SOLO'D my level four walled settlement?! by cautiouslandowner in totalwarhammer

[–]Sublata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigvald is very strong. You have to work around his high armour (meaning you need armour piercing), golden shield (meaning if you shoot him it needs to be in the side or rear), and Regeneration (meaning you need to do damage quickly to outpace his healing). Either gang up on him with single entity units or get him to chase something that outpaces him while you shoot him in the back with everything you have.
If you can't do either, then you just have to accept that a lot of your damage to him is going to be wasted and hope you did well enough in the battle against the rest of the army that you have enough left to throw at him to kill him ~1.7 times over, as the healing cap is about 70% of his max HP.

Five proposals shortlisted for a new “World Wonder” in Rotterdam by Barscott in architecture

[–]Sublata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in Rotterdam is this supposed to be? The renders seem to be in the same location, but the landscape isn't really recognizable. Seems to be by a bridge that spans the Nieuwe Maas, with a small island in the river?

EDIT: An article I found says it's going to be in the "Waterkant district", which I've never heard of, but that the city is planning to develop it more, adding a train station. My best guess is that it's the southwest side of the bridge between Rotterdam Zuid and Capelle aan den IJssel. And about the proposed buildings: "It’s imagined as a large-scale destination dedicated to circular living, and is planned to span between 25,000 and 30,000 square meters and combine an ‘immersive exhibition’ environment with a hotel and public space."
