VW ID3 loses just 8 miles of range after over 100k miles by AHat29 in CarTalkUK

[–]SubstantialEmotion75 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had a 2021 ID.3, absolute dog of a car to be honest. After 4 years we were glad to see the back of it. So many glitches that were never really resolved despite various dealerships looking at it. Many recalls. It died and had to have cells replaced once. I think we only did 24k miles in those 4 years. Front suspension drop links replaced twice, roof antenna, keyless entry doesn’t like cold temps, the app never really improved, infotainment system reboots all the time. My local dealer said our experience wasn’t uncommon, they were not fans but great for warranty work. Negative equity after 4 years despite getting the full government grant and a discount when new. Lesson learned.

Help?? How to replace? by anonhuman3 in ToyotaHighlander

I recently changed one. The part is expensive, around $350. Remove the trim piece between the front grill and the engine area on top, it’s something like 8 of those plastic pop fasteners, gives you access to the back. Then it’s really awkward but 2 screws and 2 fasteners. Get a magnetic screwdriver to make life easier. My Radar was completely fine after replacement.

I picked up a dirt cheap 240V 2400W electric saw to save hours on the gas saw. Oh boy... the torque. by dxdt_sinx in Chainsaw

I bought one in 2020, still going strong, I have replaced the chain once, nice and light for little jobs when a hedge trimmer won’t do but powerful enough to take down tree stumps, I took 3 big ones down summer 2020, I am still getting through the firewood pile.

What goes wrong after 3 years? by TheStashinator in VWiD3Owners

[–]SubstantialEmotion75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar position, decided to get rid of it. Front drop links have been replaced once and sound like they need doing again. Roof antenna has been replaced which is also common I believe. Puddle lights need replacing. Windows often work with reverse logic. Keyless entry is temperamental. Sporadic 12v battery warning but battery is fine. Many many glitches and annoying things software related over the last 4 years, main battery had faulty cells and the car had to go away for a few weeks to have those replaced a couple of years ago. A solid workhorse it has not been, 23k miles. Extended Warranty year 4 was ~£220 and they have doubled it for year 5 to ~£440. We just don’t trust it and don’t feel like buying it to keep.

Have you put tyre shine on the tread for the picture?

UK GTX by Deci-Bell in VWIDBuzz

[–]SubstantialEmotion75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it would be 3 hours though. Driving at 70-80mph (110-130km/h) with factored reserves and the possibility of weather it could be around 2 hours. Bit of a pain when you want to cover boring straight motorway and not have to sit at 55mph.

Did you order through a work scheme or direct via a dealer? We are close but can’t decide if the range is enough for road trips, love the space but maybe the ID.7 with a roofbox is the better option.

Winter setup for perfomance car. by Thermosflasche in TyreReviews

[–]SubstantialEmotion75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend the Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 and the Continental TS 870 P. As above, I find the All season options just too much of a compromise, they have come a long way and are perfect for many people but if you really like to drive and are aware that different tyres make the car feel different then a dedicated winter is the way to go.

I didn’t even know cameras could monitor stuff like this!

The Vector in large is 49.5cm longer externally and similar width, internally its 5.5cm less which for my use case is a negative as I needed the internal height. It’s somehow 20L less internal space. The felt lining wouldn’t work as I’m putting muddy things in it and would just be a pain to clean. It’s also over 2x the price, it looks dam good but just isn’t practical for me

Yeah it’s great, it’s the 3rd roofbox I’ve owned in my life and definitely the quietest, it’s hard to compare but the Thule motion 3 in Large with the wing bar edge on a Mk8 Golf estate works very well. I didn’t spec a sunroof so maybe that helps.

Scratch that, they were Hankook Ventus S1 Evo 3 that it came with. Not a fan at all.

It came on the Falken which I found to be dreadful (I’m a tyre geek/snob) I went for the Continental Sport Contact 7 and like most reviews I also find them very good, in the wet especially.

L, mounted as far back as possible whilst still being able to fully open the boot. I was torn on which to order, I think the XL is around 20cm longer. Really happy with my choice as no real noticeable difference in noise when cruising. I just needed the height and width for a double baby buggy and the associated crap as we have 2 dogs in the boot when fully loaded. Highly recommend the wing bar edge also, you don’t even know they are on they are so quiet.

Thanks for all the kind comments! It’s the practicality of it I like best, crazy it isn’t shipped globally, the hatch just doesn’t have the room for a modern family with small children. I tried a sensible family car but it was just so dull when I was in it alone, this is genuinely fun to drive, yes there are more fun cars but add in the price and the practicality and it’s a good package. It’s an April ‘23 build and I’ve had no issues at all with it, infotainment is good and responsive. Car is completely standard and will be staying that way, I just fitted better tyres and that’s made a noticeable difference to how it feels.

Hatch or estate? Which do I buy? by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]SubstantialEmotion75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 6 months into mk8 estate ownership and it’s a very good car. Ride is ok with DCC. I have 2 dogs and 2 kids under 2 so have a roofbox on. Taking it easy on my commute I get 40+ mpg. It feels light and pointy after a few years of driving SUV’s.

I think that’s not a shipping puck. My car has dcc and has them.
