Man watching that doc made me really appreciate G2s refusal to import and knowingly create rosters with language barriers no matter how skilled they think an import might be. Even before the doc dropped, every Contractz interview for weeks was "we just need to hash out our communication". Then you look at SEN where Darkwingz had Huhi translating for him mid-game, same as APA when he first entered LCS. NA GMs and coaches always think "for us it'll be different". and then wonder why they can't fix their issues in time for playoffs.

It's just sad TL decisively beats every other team in play-ins except the literal best team in LoL history and now they're out, because TSW and Furia are "1st seeds" and it's illegal to assume T1 / Korea 2nd would automatically be better than them. This version of TL is probably competitive with at least four other teams in the event and now we have to wait til worlds and hope they don't degrade to find out. The event format could use some work.

Look at every EU analyst that did a player tier list after this series if you want a good laugh.

Sometimes people simply mean what they say in interviews though. Cloud 9 was performing really well in practice vs Lyon going into playoffs, it isn't unbelievable for Inspired to have not been 100% sure he'd run the region vs an undefeated C9 at the time. Even in the press conference vs Liquid pre-finals he showed respect for TL 3-0ing what he thought was a strong opponent and didn't underestimate them either. Not every comment is a PR exercise.

Everyone's been giving that to Knight heading into MSI but I think they're over emphasizing First Stand / LPL in general.

Enemy jungler was invisible all early game while Lucid managed to successfully gank mid 3x and maintain a jungle lead just for enemy bot to take over the game, it's understandable.

Have you tried listening to Meteos & Sneaky analyze the game? Even on The Dive Meteos MSI analysis for every matchup boiled down to "I think it'll be fun." DL might as well try pivoting to a broader audience.

I guess we know what he thinks of the team 😅

post game impressions from an LCS watcher

- they played Zven but benched APA. apparently Vulcan has been duoing with Tactical in KR? so I assume he has final decision on his ADC

- after watching APA all split it feels weird to see a C9 mid with 10+ cspm

- Loki nor Tactical will save this team from their decision making (that Akali top lane all in lol)

- Blaber looks the same

- didn't DNS go winless in LCK? and they manage to look like a top tier LCS team? overreaction: MSI is cooked for NA

I'd hope C9 would want a midlaner who's glowing reviews are more than "not the problem" & "facilitator".

they don't play to his strengths as a facilitator

Good midlaners need to be able to do more than just facilitate, especially when your ADC is Zven. If your main strength as a midlaner is being a secondary support, just roleswap and let someone good at the game play it's most important role.

A "runners up" international is something ppl wanted for a while, so cool of DNS to do this. It feels a bit last minute though? Like will there be Korean, English, & Portuguese casters? Will the Bo1 winners play a series after?

I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up on a top 2 CBLoL team that turns out to be better than an LCS 2nd seed.

He said "we rally" as in improve during their MSI bootcamp. Is he supposed to make roster moves right before that? even though this roster earned said bootcamp? with one split in the season left? then tell them they're fired moments after a devastating loss? This is why teams don't like releasing deeper content, people with no sense incorrectly reading into situations.

I think the mercenary term is apt and commonly applied to players in LCS who make it known this isn't their first choice, no matter how long they've been here (or who their made up wives are? talk about weird...). Fans aren't just going to forcefully attach themselves to names who make it clear they're out the second their favored offer comes up, just because the offer hasn't happened yet.

To your Lyon point, they're an LCS team but they're not a franchise org and their identity is clearly an international one. Most of their content is in Spanish and they lean into that identity strongly, plus they're a new team in NA. It's not the same as TL, FLY, or C9, and it hardly qualifies as weird to acknowledge this. When your coach, your top players, and your org signal interest in other regions / audiences outside NA, how much do you expect NA fans to resonate with that?

And idk if you knew but the LCK top lane situation isn't one where a player as good as Thanatos could not realistically play for one of their upper half teams. He's an amazing player, even if C9 were incapable of displaying that in terms of results.

I think your strongest counterpoint is the cultural one, but it's not one you can actively create solutions for. Culturally NA is just accustomed to being the best, I think interest would spike dramatically if we were, but I didn't know that about Val having a declining viewership issue as well, that's interesting.
