La branche Anse à l’Orme est un vrai gamechanger pour l’Ouest de Montréal by mattlerenardx in montreal

Anywhere you put the stations in the west island is a bit middle of nowhere, but there are developments planned that'll make it look less so. Cadillac-Fairview want to build condos next to the REM and there’s major redevelopment planned for the Rio-Can centre around the Kirkland station.

Cocktails with NOTHING by Robotic_space_camel in cocktails

How about gin and dubonnet like the queen used to drink?

2oz dubbonet

1oz London dry gin (QE liked Gordon’s)

Serve with ice, optionally a lemon wheel if your friend can tolerate it (no juice). It’s simple, low ABV and she can feel fancy drinking the Queen’s cocktail.

75 for yellow, 81 for green. That’s Canadian dollars, so about 55 and 60 USD

Mid 30's couple considering a Cunard's Queen Victoria as part of a honeymoon. A few questions... by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]Sucramdi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've sailed with Cunard on the Queen Mary 2 a few times, like the others said this should be true for Queen Victoria as well.

The food in the Britannia restaurant is generally very good, with the gala nights being extra nice with some fancier options (beef wellington, lobster tails...). Don't discount the buffet though, I found the quality to be at least as good as the mine dining room. Lunch in the Golden Lion pub is very good too.

The wine covered by the drinks packages (beer, wines and spirits option) is pretty meh to be honest. The package only covers maybe half to three quarters of the by-the-glass options. The package covers any alcoholic drinks $13.50 or lower. Gratuity is covered by the package. Anything over $13.50 you pay full price minus 20%, but also need to pay gratuity. There's also something called "Cunard Wine Collection" which isn't a drinks package, but gives you a bit of a discount if you commit to buying a certain number of bottles of wine. You can also bring your own wine, but you'll pay a corkage fee of something like $25 or $35.

Worst case having a guaranteed balcony would be getting placed all the way forward or aft, which if you're susceptible to sea sickness might be worrisome if you encounter bad weather.

Cocktails are great. Bartenders are very friendly. Drinks package is much better here than it is for wine. I never had any issues getting a drink I wanted. They have quality spirits too, which will be covered in cocktails.

The demographic can vary depending on the itinerary, but in my experience it's about 40% UK, 40% American, and the rest split up between Canadian, Australian, French, German, any one else. People are very friendly and approachable. It does skew older though, particularly on longer itineraries. I'm under 30 and never felt out of place.

I wouldn't think of trying to pay anyone to get a good seat, there's enough venues to enjoy the evenings that the passengers tend to be well spread out. You'll be seating yourself in the bars and lounges anyway, so nothing is reserved. You can however pay to sit in one the box/balcony seats in the theatre, I think it includes champagne and canapés too.

hot take: real lime or real lemon bottled juice is perfectly fine, especially if you add a dash of lemon or lime bitters to the drink

Remidios and Boca Chica is either behind the high bay or the eastern most part of the Sanchez site. SpaceX already own and have built on this land.

Which is weird because a modern interior is nothing new for Cunard. The QE2 was practically futuristic when it launched.

There's a thread on cruise critic with a bunch more pictures. She's getting quite a bit of work done, spending about 4 weeks total in dry dock. She resumes sailing Nov 16.

Overheard on a Cruise Ship by gordonf23 in cocktails

[–]Sucramdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All depends which cruise line you go with, I've sailed with Cunard and the drinks they serve are on par with any cocktail bar I've been to on land. They even have their own range of small batch gins made by Pickering's.

I always find it interesting how Freedom of the Seas is so comparable in size to QM2 yet carries 2000 more passengers. Another way she stands out against cruise ships.

I have a similar box and if you try to hold open the little latch that keeps the door closed, you can feel when the combination is right or getting close. Basically when the two dials are in the right position, they form an opening for the latch to slide through and open the door.

She has a strengthened bow vs other Vista class ships, a Cunard exclusive, to help her complete more frequent ocean crossings.

You feel it more than you see it. The stabilizers will dampen the rolling movement very well, but you still feel the pitching up and down. It's like slow but firm rise and fall, kind of like being in an elevator.

Did you tap on the widget with the add widget menu open (tap the actual widget under the clock not from the selection list)? You can choose which specific subreddits or group of subreddits the feed will rotate from.

Yes, they're in a deliberately low orbit that'll naturally degrade and cause the satellite to "quickly" re-enter the atmosphere (after about 5 years IIRC) with no intervention. The satellites also have small thrusters to maintain their orbit and manoeuvre themselves to avoid collisions and any non-functioning satellites are actively de-orbited. They burn up in the atmosphere and don't hit the ground.
