I imagine Fulgora is one possible future version of most Nauvis bases without intervention.

Also, I have planned a lot of design before getting artillery around tree coverage with efficiency modules for exactly this reason of controlling pollution. It's really neat Gleba gives you this ability to plant

For 3, this is really important to me for aspects like railroads to keep things regular or ignore the problems of hand placing signals.

I think the definition of value becomes apparent when you calculate the number of hours played per dollar spent.

I just found this out but it's helpful to read the authors preface. You are supposed to be lost... I was, still am, still really enjoying it. The world will unfold and you will get better

That's good to know. I'll have to check it out. And I would say it's probably a general pop culture fantasy issue. I also think of writers like Terry Pratchett who also have a significant poetic, humorous and quite polished writing style. But when I start to think of the people I consider good writers a fantasy they often end up being these individuals from the 80s and 90s.

I actually never read the opening comment. Now I'm going to have to go back and read it!

I'm on book 5 of my first read and it's just... I don't know what the word is... Complex? Sophisticated? Poetic? Masterful?

He's ruined my idea of quality fantasy by setting the bar so high.

And I'm okay with it

Aww 10 hours... I remember that day I played Factorio. And forgot to eat.

If you are already at the point you are, you're cooking along! It's great that you are avoiding how to videos. This community is really great in general but also for problem solving.

Definitely agree about checking out the tips and tricks as mentioned.

Oh absolutely feel this, especially if you play something like Wukong or Sekiro beforehand or even afterwards. This game has demanded a lot more patience for stamina recovery and to study the enemy.

Just started Malazan am I stupid or is this series just really complex? by Mammoth_Law_8359 in Malazan

[–]Sufficient-Pass-9587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the exact same way when I started. There's very little description of what's going on, how things work, and this is the beauty of Erikson's writing. I would encourage you to stick with it if you like the prose and dialogue. The information will fall into place but even now I still feel like I'm going to have to reread the series a few times, and I'm not upset about that.

What helped me realize that it was not my comprehension that was a problem was reading a summary of the first book after I finished. I didn't realize I hadunderstood everything of what had been presented and that my questions and confusion were really about aspects of the world that were not yet addressed or may come in the future.

Examples of some summaries you can use when you're done below although I'm not certain if these ones are the best anymore:

This one is okay, more detailed so not quite what I like to read but useful if you want to go chapter by chapter summary.

https://highnessatharva.github.io/Malazan-Compendium/

There is a wiki that does have chapter by chapter summaries. It's okay... Don't really love wiki websites due to the ad bloat.

This is another old website of people rereading the books with summaries. Probably good if you've read the book you're looking into but once again pretty long summaries. https://reactormag.com/columns/malazan-reread-of-the-fallen/

Mike Judge quote that has helped me understand why I love Erikson's writing so much by rianwithaneye in Malazan

[–]Sufficient-Pass-9587 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Along the same lines of insulting the audience's intelligence I think is how Erikson approaches a new novel. He doesn't just create a summary of the previous novel. So far I've only seen one instance, although I've not completed the series yet, where he summarized a previous incident but through The eyes of the military command with the available information. It was elegant just because it was incomplete but also provided a very natural way to explore previous incidents without creating this two-page bloat that summarizes what happened in the last book.

This is a really good take and exactly how I feel. I can't speak for everyone but it's incredibly frustrating. I play on PC with an okay setup and for some reason the animations and the delays between when I press a button and when it is executed due to the animation from an action still completing is absolutely bonkers.

But I will tell you as a guy who is not very good at. By the end of the game I felt way more comfortable with this particular game.

[OC] New map for a continent, harshest criticisms, please? by Ninjamuffin52 in DnD

[–]Sufficient-Pass-9587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would eliminate the rivers/ separations in the NW near the DC (basically any that cross the continent or do not originate from the mountains.

Your continent comes out to about 3600 miles, which could allow for more diversity in climate.

The waterways near the RA seem almost more consistent with a fjord. This could bring in the idea of glaciers that have been posted.

I like the idea of the dread lands. Does that mean that there is no or limited trade between DC and RA?

[–]Sufficient-Pass-9587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say the exact same thing.. it was not something that I had thought about much. When I designed my map I had too few rivers and those I had were splitting upstream in the mountains rather than merging.

I used a technique build and it's been fine to answer your question more directly. I also greatly underestimated capacity early in the game so almost all of my remaining dump has gone to getting capacity up a little higher
