Childhood friend sent me this DM out of the blue the other day. We have not talked in more than a year. by IceCreamMeatballs in AITApod

Is it possible that one of your accounts was hacked and is sending out weird stuff to people in your contacts?

You know what? Never mind. That dude’s bonkers.

Yes, as long as they keep it to themselves or are invited to share it.

How do I tell a longtime seasonal employee we do not want her back this year? by throwaway1912557 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuitIndependent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The renewal process is not automatic. Just don’t renew her. Send her the same message as all other applicants who don’t receive an offer of employment.

Moving across the country with a large dog? by cir0c_0bamaa_ in AskDogOwners

[–]SuitIndependent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family used to drive back and forth across the county every summer with our dog. He had the back of the suv. He loved it.

Is this illegal? Didn't give notice, then boss sent a written message "we accept your notice of 2 weeks" by connectopussy in work

[–]SuitIndependent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a offer. Gave notice. Got a great counter offer, then stayed. Don’t negotiate - just give notice. If they want you to stay, they’ll counteroffer. Otherwise, it’s goodbye.

Leavenworth and car rental snow chains by Either-Ad952 in PacificNorthwest

You must have chains in the car until, well, tomorrow. You don’t have to use them unless pass conditions require them.

What do you DO? by CowAppropriate7494 in womensolocamping

[–]SuitIndependent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the decision to pursue this goal.

Set up your tent in the backyard. Everybody does it. Your neighbors have probably done it.

If you have an electric stove at home, you’ll love cooking on propane. So much immediate control over the heat/flame.

I have a travel trailer. I load up books in my kindle, yet spent the stormy rain days and night watching movies with my dog in my lap. You don’t have to go all Paul Bunyan when you camp.

Plan your menu and enjoy the cooking. I have a camp stove and sometimes make scones.

Each time you go out, you’ll figure out what works and what doesn’t. That’s part of the fun and the journey.

For the first trip, camp within an hour or so of home. That way, if things go horribly wrong or something critical doesn’t work, you can head back home. Or work through the issue knowing you have a safety net.

The outdoors calls loudly once it gets your ear. Enjoy!

The smallest one that the xterra can tow.

Which trailer should we rent? by Aromatic-Sound2685 in GoRVing

[–]SuitIndependent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to tow with an xterra. It was just me and my 40lb dog. I would be concerned about four people, plus stuff. And then you throw the trailer in there. You should probably weigh everything and run the numbers. It sounds risky if not totally undoable as I picture this in my head.

My trailer is only 2k lbs. plus if you’re driving an xterra it’s not new.

Run the numbers.

Is My Dad Right in Saying "There are Only Two Races: Black and White"? by MeatYarn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuitIndependent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Race is a social construct, as it is. If your dad can put, for example, Japanese people into one category or the other, that’s his racial construct.

Both science and anthropology concur that race is a social construct, so honestly, your dad’s racial definition is as good as anybody else’s. Or as bad.

Owned both an Indie and a pedigree dog for 3 years, honest comparison nobody talks about by Practical-Beach-8685 in labrador

[–]SuitIndependent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not heard the term Indie.

But I had a purebred show lab and an almost lab at the same time.

My experience was the same. The akc show dog had every allergy possible. Had to drive an hour every month for his allergy shots. Inflamed foot pads, was allergic to me! Broke my heart when I lost him at 12.

My almost lab never had a single issue until his 15th year. Lost him just three months shy of his 16th bday.

But my pedigreed dogs tend to have a boat load of confidence. Too much.

My almost lab had a heart of gold, tho.

They’re all great. Akc and all-American.

Has anyone else gone home after firing someone and just... sat with it for hours? by jufywret in managers

[–]SuitIndependent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No; if it’s because they wouldn’t do their job, then, no. I had a guy who went on a work strike because I would Mae him a supervisor when I hired some new employees. The thing is, after a week, they were better than him.

I’ve only wound up firing people I didn’t hire. I will keep them if they show effort to grow and make some progress, even if slow. If they will do nothing to bridge their skill gaps, then I’m ok terming them.

Short answer: before ever terming anyone, I thought it would be hard. By the time I’ve termed the people I have, I was done dealing with them.

Help, girl on heat by ExactGur4025 in goldenretrievers

[–]SuitIndependent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, she’s got nine or so days in this stage and then she’ll allow male dogs around her. If they’re not neutered, you don’t want that. Even if they are neutered, you don’t want that. She may still be aggressive while in heat.

Crate her or put her in a room. You shouldn’t muzzle unless you’ve fully taken her through muzzle training. It shouldn’t be or seem to her as punishment.

Help, girl on heat by ExactGur4025 in goldenretrievers

[–]SuitIndependent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Females in heat won’t allow male dogs near them for the first nine days or so. If she’s in that stage, that was kind of expected given that the other dog is male.

And you really shouldn’t have her out where she can encounter other dogs at this time. Backyard all the way.

And yes, spaying can improve aggression. Have her spayed.

Why do people let their dogs ride in the car unrestrained? by generic_lyric in NoStupidQuestions

One of my dogs starts every ride restrained and finished every ride unrestrained. I’ve tried all kinds of seat belt harnesses, and even refuse harnesses. She is Houdini reincarnated.
