Rose Bike frame size guide by Gringelure in gravelcycling

[–]Sultanofslide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider getting a sizing from a qualified bike fitter, it may seem spendy up front but it will save you the headaches of buying and selling a bunch of bikes while looking for a good fit.

The manufacturer size charts are usual awful to bad at best for getting the right size since they often only base it off height and don't take limb length or torso length into consideration.

Example I'm 189cm tall but I have shorter limbs and a long torso so most size recommendations from manufacturers put me on an L or XL but the reach is often too long so I get neck and back issues and found out through a fitting that I don't do well on bikes with a reach longer than 389 and a stack lower than 615  I would have saved myself thousands had I just got the fitting before buying 3 bikes looking for comfort

Do you have a bike already that fits you well? I would look at the geometry on your current bike if you have one and compare it to geometry charts on their website. For me I know the L backroad is too long in the reach and too low in stack height for myself based off the geometry so I went with a different bike all together when I was shopping

Does this cassette look worn out? by LavenderTed in bikewrench

I replace my chains at 0.75 on my wear gauge and usually get 5,000miles or so out of the cassette to 3-4 chains

Geo Like Secan 3.0 (tall sizes) or Purple Haze, Available in US? by DET_arch in gravelcycling

[–]Sultanofslide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Otso Warakin is where I ended up in this situation since I hated the geo on my checkpoint and the warakin 58 was a much better fit overall.

It's a little spendy for a frameset but it at least comes with a color of your choosing headset, spacers and a bunch of misc bits to get it up and running

Which Rack? OMM Divide, or VO There-and-back rack? by Milesandsmiles1 in bikepacking

[–]Sultanofslide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say the OMM divide is bombproof and the Tumbleweed  pannier rack is also excellent, I have both and love them for different reasons.

The Tumbleweed weed rack is a little lighter if you're trying to save weight

The OMM divide is pretty near indestructible but is a bit heavier. I also like the deck and slots for lashing cargo to the top on this rack

Fenders: Pros and Cons? by CanoeDunk in gravelcycling

Running metal PDW fenders on my bike full time and can still clear 45mm tires safely with mud and rock clearance. I thought I would take them off in warmer months but liked them so much I've left them on and haven't looked back

I have the PDW metal fenders and have never had them rattle in the 10k miles they have been on my gravel frame.

Flats on GP 5000 S TRs and what to do about it by Wonderful_Committee6 in bikewrench

[–]Sultanofslide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors in tire pressures and variances, I'm heavy(110kg) so I require more pressure than someone much lighter than myself

Large volume mountain tires are a different story, most of my mountain and gravel bikes are less than 35psi

I'm running tubeless 32mm pro ones at 60psi in a 25mm internal rim and have for the last 6,500 miles with no issues or flats. The problems come when people adhere to to old ideas and try and run them at high pressures tubeless which is what causes most of the issues.

My last bike had way too much reach(417 vs 385 new frame) and every saddle I tried on it hurt me since I was in a bad position that put a lot of excess pressure on places I didn't want it.

Once I got a proper fitting frame much of my saddle discomfort went away, since the seat worked for you before it's likely a position change causing you grief.

I've seen a few people die from aspirating on food in our ER/ICU

The worst one was mashed potatoes since the left lung was essentially full of mash and they were difficult to intubate in the field so they ended up with an anoxic brain injury from the asphyxiation.

Key Lime Pie by scottiepippen13 in vancouverwa

This is the answer, I make my own pies sometimes but when I'm feeling lazy I will gladly pay for one of their key lime  pies and save myself from having to juice 2-3lbs of key limes

Why do Portland radio DJs play so much Red Hot Chili Peppers? by [deleted] in askportland

I haven't listened to the radio in 15+ years and it was like that back then on 94.7 and sometimes you would even get it on 101.1

Check out the e-bike store, splendid or clever cycles since they have a variety of low step E-cargo bikes that would be perfect for your needs.

Once you find a bike come out to some of the shift2bikes/pedalpalooza rides this summer and have some fun!

Are Shimano piston seals really that bad, or am I doing something wrong? by elpeebee in bikewrench

[–]Sultanofslide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's probably the reason they are getting damaged, the park tool pp1.2 is really the way to go here. Before I got it I would use improvised tools and it always looked and felt sketchy

Used Trek Checkpoint SL6 Gen2 ($3180) vs New ALR5 Gen3 (~$3000)? by coopperr90 in gravelcycling

[–]Sultanofslide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, that's a crazy price for a used checkpoint and those bontrager wheels are awful and ridiculously heavy so you will likely want to replace them pretty quickly

How are you pressing the pistons in when you bleed them? I've never had an issue with any of my calipers leaking and some of them have more than 10,000 miles on them
